Well the one thing right in your post is that it is true, you are never going to walk into a restaurant and say "I would like tuna sushi" and get tuna fried rice, because that isn't what "sushi" is referring to. "Sushi" means rice in so much as it is referring to the fact that sushi is raw fish with rice as compared to sashimi which is without rice. You will never find a restaurant in Japan that serves anything thing but raw fish served in or in vinegared rice if you order tuna sushi, and you will also find that you will never be served only raw tuna without rice if you order tuna sushi. This is true in the US too. The problem stems from the fact in America we don't eat just raw fish without rice, so there was never any need to import the word sashimi so in the minds of English speakers "Sushi" referred to the raw fish part of raw fish and rice, compared to the Japanese meaning which means sashimi with rice. In conclusion, I think starting poster of this treads pedantic point was that saying sushi is dangerous is just silly, since it isn't raw fish with rice that is dangerous, it is raw fish. Therefore why focus on the fish with rice part by using the word Sushi. It is like if there was an outbreak of mad cow disease and a study saying "Hamburgers Dangerous" while that is true, would it not be more help to say "Beef Dangerous" since there is nothing about a bun, lettuce, and a tomato that would make hamburgers more dangerous than just eating a beef paddy.

While the Edible jellyfish is know as more delicious and fetches a higher price in China they are both perfectly edible. The other problem is China and Japan view the problem differently, because Japanese people do not traditionally eat jellyfish they tend to view the surplus of jellyfish in terms of invaders, while China has a tendency to view it as more jellyfish to eat. Though there are several Japanese companies who have started using Nomura's jellyfish as an ingredient in different foods as a way to try to deal with the influx of the jellyfish in recent years. This caused several problems last year, when several companies were expecting hauls of jellyfish last year to find almost none appearing.

I can only imagine what all viral advertizing firms are thinking. Damn, well I guess we can't use wikipedia to try to gain recognition for our product, because if someone notices, our pages will get slashdotted then no one will be able to view them, because too many people will be viewing our product... Oh, wait...

Despite that, I am still not sure what the big deal was in the first place. It was just good fun, and didn't really harm anyone. What the article actually says about "Stealthisemail.com" is that Mr. Stroller sent an e-mail to the website telling them to shut it down. Then the article says about InterActivist Network (who runs stealthisemail.com):

Eric Goldhagen, a member of the InterActivist Network, said that members of his group planned to talk to lawyers and others who have received letters from Mr. Stoller to discuss ways to deal with his "stealth" claims. "The fact that somebody, just by claiming to own a word, can intimidate large companies and powerful law firms shows the damage, to an extent, is already done," he said. "If people like Stoller are allowed to get away with this unchallenged, there could be ripple effects to every form of public mass media."

which if you look closely seems to imply to me that they have not taken it to court yet, therefore have not been forced to shutdown. This is easily verified by going to the actual website which is still up.

Yeah, but the problem with calling modern games worthless, unfun crap that no-one would want to play is that people do want to play them. If no one wanted to play the upteenth iteration of GTA then there wouldn't be an upteenth + 1 version of it. The problem is the majority of people do want to play GTA and can't wait for the next one to come out. They love the graphics and the cut-scenes. It is not just the industry steering itself in that direction, it is the also the money and that money is coming from the consumer who is buying all these damn rehashed games.

I feel most slashdotters (myself included-considering the only game installed on my computer right now is Angband) don't realize how in the minority they are. The gaming industry for the most part is in it to make money, so why make games that would please a few thousand slashdotters (at least the ones that would actually pay for the game) when the could sell a flasher game to 100X that audience. There will always be small niche game makers who do it for the love of the craft, but big companies want to make big money. And to say these developers are digging there own graves rehashing the same old ideas just doesn't jive with reality, since people are obviously buying the games. So complain about the lack of good games, but don't just blame the developers thinking they are on some ego-maniacal trip, they are just doing what the public, in general, wants.

Nonsense! If MicroSoft was 2 billion in the red and falling fast, the party line would be exactly the same. If anything, they'd cheer louder as MS approached chapter 11.

The only reason they would cheer is because they already hate MS. If MicroSoft had never become big and filthy rich then no-one would give a damn. That is what I meant with my hypothetical comparision to BeOS. If MicroSoft hadn't gotten big (and filthy rich) people wouldn't hate them (at least as much). So of course if MicroSoft was losing money slashdot would cheer because it would be the felling of a giant, but that doesn't change the fact that they started cheering in the first place for the down fall of MicroSoft because MS was (is) a filthy rich giant.

Also in defense of my conflation of money and size. I don't know about worldcom and adelphia, but I would imagine that they were at one time making piles of money or else how did they become behemoth corps. It seems to me that you can't become a behemoth corp without any capital so they needed and had it at one time or another.
