Really, fire some managers. Most of them are just surfing the web anyway and are slowing the process down. Lets try 1 manager for 30 employees. And reduce bonuses down to 5% across the board especial for company officers.
Use opensource and commodity x86. Don't buy software licenses. Don't buy dell or hp. Buy no name brands. They can be just as good and if one breaks, who cares. you have another one just like it.
Rethink getting a SAN. Why are they so expensive! Build your own SAN for less or just go for a JBOD with software RAID.
Backups... Haven't come up with an idea for this yet. Backups are so important. But tapes and robots are expensive. Sending them off site costs too.
It is time to organize and work to dismatle the patent and ip system as we know it today. The EFF would be a nice org to start "the work". Maybe another org that is singularly focused on Patents/IP legal issues would be better. This is a large undertaking but what are you going to do? You have to start somewhere. And think of it like this, you get to go to war with "The Empire", Darth Vader, and all. To use another movie reference, "It's time to go to the mattresses."
This guy is on crack! This may be one of the most stupid statements i've heard in the last ten years. And we wonder why this country is so messed up.
The speakers statement is patently false not worthy of any consideration. I would instead consider the speakers general lack of knowledge and gender bias.
I find it intellectually immoral and ethically questionable to use academia an engine of business while restricting the use of knowledge. Universities are places of knowledge and research.
I agree whole heartily. Furthermore, restrictive patents on devices, methods, therapies, drugs, etc that enable and heal people I find even more distressing. In medicine OUR focus needs to be the PATIENT not the BUSINESS. It is important to say that doctors and medical practitioners of similar disciplines recieve fair compensation.
Some doctors, insurance companies, drug companies, and healthcare executives feel differently. The above mention group believes that it is ok if you go without healthcare as long they get payed. I know this because I worked for an insurance company and I've experienced the general callusness within these medical organizations.
My anger is at a peak. I can bearly type coherrently. NO FIX IN 2004! If our votes don't count, American freedom is finished. Its time to take to the streets win or loss.
Have you see BestBuy latly. The place is run like ass. The staff and managers mickey mouse all the way. I hope BestBuy business burns out and blows alway. I guess I'll just buy my crap online.
I decided to turn down a job with a sizable increase in salary. When i interview with the company I found that they were constantly putting out fires and not setting up there systems to avoid problems. I realized that my life would suck supporting their environment so I decided to not to go. I'm begining to realize that money with a lousy quality of life simply isn't worth it. I am now considering leaving my corporate job and starting my own company. Quality of life is where its at. Companies that understand that will benefit from it.
Time to start your own company. I believe that we the IT professionals need to gather our courage and go out on our and make this industry again. Big words but what is the alternative. If IT goes abroad and we want to continue to be IT people then we need to start our own thing.
Hey, sco released caldera linux under the GPL. Now they owe us. Makes sense that SCO would want to discredit the GPL. REMEMBER THEY RELEASE CALDERA LINUX UNDER THE GPL. NOW THEY OWE US.
I agree. The U.N. is a corrupt body of incompetent administrators and diplomats from mostly repressive countries. The internet and politics don't mix. ICANN works.
What is free software by FSF: www.gnu.org
We maintain this free software definition to show clearly what must be true about a particular software program for it to be considered free software.
``Free software'' is a matter of liberty, not price. To understand the concept, you should think of ``free'' as in ``free speech,'' not as in ``free beer.''
Free software is a matter of the users' freedom to run, copy, distribute, study, change and improve the software. More precisely, it refers to four kinds of freedom, for the users of the software:
* The freedom to run the program, for any purpose (freedom 0).
* The freedom to study how the program works, and adapt it to your needs (freedom 1). Access to the source code is a precondition for this.
* The freedom to redistribute copies so you can help your neighbor (freedom 2).
* The freedom to improve the program, and release your improvements to the public, so that the whole community benefits (freedom 3). Access to the source code is a precondition for this.
A program is free software if users have all of these freedoms. Thus, you should be free to redistribute copies, either with or without modifications, either gratis or charging a fee for distribution, to anyone anywhere. Being free to do these things means (among other things) that you do not have to ask or pay for permission.
That view is a bit extreme and not what the founders of the GPL had in mind when they thought about distributing software. Linus has a copyright on the word "Linux" but the GPL prevents him from stopping the redistribution of his work. I believe the same would hold true for RedHat.
I would like to know what RedHat means by having a partially non-GPL distro along side a GPL'ed distro. Does that mean that the GPL distro will be inferior or does it mean that the partially non-GPL'ed distro has some value added. Which is distro is better? Is RedHat selling us better software or are they backing RedHat users into a corner?
Question. If redhat has mingles their non-GPL code/progs/etc.. so closely with GPLed code that they are insperable, isn't that like a poisoned a distro? I've used Redhat's distro for years and I would like to continue using it. If redhat makes me choose between their non-GPL code and some substandard variant, I'll pass on RedHat and look for another distro. What is the 'jist' of the situation?
Oh yeah, "Remember the fork wars." Not again, please.
Thank You,
Mike

Cloning humans... this is as dumb as nuclear war and George W. Bush.

Burn the coders at the stake! Damn coders making life easiler of the user AT NO COST! How dare they! ARRRGGGGH!!!

In short, the man is a dolt.
Time to circle the wagons. Where is the legal defence fund? How do we deal with K-Otik?
It's amazing how far you can go when you don't have a 500 pound gorilla on your back.
Right and the Pinkertons never harmed anyone. Nike doesn't exploit child labor and union carbide is improving air quality through out India.

To hell with human tagging subdermal or otherwise. Its inhuman.
This is friggen nuts! How dehumanizing. To be tracked like an animal. It's appauling to the point of panic.

Stupid! Stupid! Stupid! The world is run by greedy morons.
Well, in system design you often have the chance to build systems that deal with problems on their own.
I decided to turn down a job with a sizable increase in salary. Yet another stupid patent... I own a VCR. I can record one program while watching another so sue me.

Are you telling me trading iso's is a violation of trademark law? I wish someone would answer my other question. IP is stupid.
