I'm of the strong opinion that reminders of the Nazi era should be kept around and carefully studied so that the next time a similar group, such as Scientology, comes around the people will know it for what it is.
If I'm not mistaken, Scientology is already banned in Germany.

I've read through most of the comments posted, and many refer to Hilary Rosen as "she," "her," etc.

I wonder if Mr. Rosen would be upset if he knew that a significant portion of Slashdot readers (and, possibly, the general population) thought he was a woman.

Kinda puts a smile on your face, huh? :-)

Hilary Rosen IS a woman you idiot.

I assure you, this isn't flamebait, although some may preceive it as such.

What, exactly, is the difference between the integration of Windows and IE vs the integration of KE and Konqueror?

There is no real difference, except that Microsoft uses its MONOPOLY power to do this, which is bad.

And how about those posts where someone misreads the title and then writes about it and it gets marked up as funny. Like, "whoa, who else misread the title as KDE 8.0 is Out? Weird. I'm a loser"

Note that the Copyright Act ONLY allows for copies to be made of "sound recordings of musical works". Nonmusical works, such as audio books or books-on-tape are NOT covered.

Yeah, but the fact remains that we'll still have to pay the levy on blank CDs that aren't used for music. How far are they eventually going to raise this levy to? How can an industry whose sales are down practically force consumers to reimburse them in this way. This is insane..

  6. How about in Canada? on Hardware Review: Rio Central · · Score: 1

So $1500 in CDN dollars is about $2500. Add on Canada's new $21/GB x 40 GB copy protection "levy" is $840. Wow, $3340.

After doing some research, I recommended to my girlfriend that she buy an Acer laptop. The reasons were simple - it had a modem, ethernet, and wireless ethernet built in, it had a large 14" screen, and it was only 5.2 pounds with the dvd drive installed, 4.5 without, and came installed with Windows 2000.

And without Windows 2000 installed it was only 1 pound right?

You all say that Unix admins know more, or that open source programs have patches out faster, but what about all those people who know little about linux and install it. They can just as easily leave their computers unpatched, running 24/7 using some cable provider. More and more people are trying out linux, it doesn't mean all of them are smart. So of course the same thing can happen.

Say the MS-Office suite is split off as a separate entity from the operating system. All of a sudden there is no particular advantage to NOT port Office to other OSes. They can still port to Apple/MacOS AND they can now port to Solaris, *BSD, BeOS, Linux... whatever. It would be a distinct advantage for the Office "baby bill" to do so. (More ports == more sales).

What makes you think that they will port Office? I don't think more ports==more sales.. It costs money, and there isn't as big of a user base for non-Windows ports. If all these other companies aren't porting software to other OSes, why would the Microsoft Application company do it?
