    This sounds like a likely DMCA violation, but you'll have to consult your lawyer to be sure.

    I thought he was a lawyer?

    The real answer is that not even your lawyer can give you a straight answer. The only way you'll ever find out is if the event actually occurs, parties sue, they don't settle out of court, and the rulings keep getting appealed until it gets to the Supreme Court.

    I've had a couple years experience with new technology and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance. While the ADA representatives in Washington would deny vehemently that the law was unclear, the only way you'd really know if you were in violation was if you (or someone else in the same position) were sued and lost.

    Sometimes, what we "think" looks or sounds "right" may not be acurate.

    Why is it 99.9% of sci-fi movies and shows have sound in outer space? Because it would seem odd for these spaceships to be wooshing (ha!) around wihtout any sound whatsoever.

    Sounds good to me, but what format will replace jpeg? JPEG2000 uses wavelets, which is good, but requires more processing power. I'm not sure if cameras have the cpu power needed to compress in this format as quickly.

    I'm not implying it was a conspiracy either, but when the NASA representative doesn't even know something basic about the shuttle like the existence of the black box, my confidence about their investigation on why the shuttle exploded begins to wane.

    When the shuttle broke up, people like myself asked about a black box and were told "there is no such device due to the near impossibility of the device to re-enter the atmosphere." Nw all of a sudden there IS a box. Why were we mislead?

    Suppose the ISP finds that there were 1,000 downloads of a particular title one month. How do they pay the software companies royalties? I mean, what if the user downloaded it, realized it was a mistake, then deleted it without ever playing the game. Does that count as a "sale?"

    I agree, but then someone has to take a stand and tell some govenment sponsored program that they are going to have their budget sliced. The lobbyists scream bloddy murder and threaten to take away their campaign funds.

    This is a band-aid to fix a problem that's far worse. Don't stand up and cheer because companies now have to put a label on things that people already know. Do you honestly think people are going to see the label and say, "Oh wow! I had no idea!" It didn't work for cigarettes, and it's not going to work for overturning the DMCA.

    The oil is miles underground and essentially protected from attack. The corn is not. Who cares about laptops? We're talking about replacing oil for some other alternative fuel.
