I've been on the same profile since at least 1.2 and I think there's a good chance it might even be the same one from the 1.0 release. Maybe I've just lucked out (and am now jinxing myself) and not gotten hit by one of these profile-trashing bugs, but as long as I completely delete the Mozilla program directory before upgrading, it has no problems.
Actually, you can use the/FA compiler flag to get Visual C++ to output assembly code, in Visual C++.NET anyway. I know the option exists in version 6 also, although it might not be the same flag.
I'm glad there is at least one person on/. who can see through all the hype and bullshit that gets pawned as "punk" and is even remotely interested in talking about it intelligently.
You (referring to most of the posters, here, not pezpunk) say punk fans are stupid emofags, or sneering, mohawk-and-leather-jacket wearing bums who don't work? Plenty of them are, and I think most people would be happier if they packed up and left. Not everyone is in this for the fashion or because Carson Daly said it was a good idea on TRL. For every Blink-182 knockoff whining about losing their girl, there are hundreds of bands busting their asses every day after work to put on a show or write a record, to help other people through their day or try and come to grips with what's wrong in the world today. After discovering my local punk scene (Boston) I can't even listen to the radio anymore, the meaningless, emotionless drivel most bands come up with just doesn't interest me.
You don't have to like punk anymore than I have to enjoy electronica or hip-hop. I guess the stuck up zealotry so rampant on this site spills over into music too. But it just gets under my skin to see people bashing an entire genre and subculture based on a few bad apples.
As a personal note to pezpunk...your band is pretty sweet. I also noticed you're playing a show with Toxic Narcotic; I love Toxic! DIY in its truest form.
Would you kindly point out to me any kind of factual basis for saying the Misfits or Dead Kennedys were manufactured or "put together" by some manager? To my knowledge this is blatantly untrue.
I'd mod you up if I could

I've hated the word blog since I first heard it, although as some have pointed out it's sort of fitting in that it's almost as retarded as its meaning.
"Very promising, and hopefully with time it will become as good as the Linux version, but until then its back to Trillian Pro."
He says it looks good and knows it will get better, but until it is out of alpha, he will use Trillian. Why bash the guy for something he blatantly did not do? Quit trolling people.
This was added in one of the earliest 1.1 alpha builds. I am doomed to using an email account that gets a LOT of spam, and being able to keep the images in all those HTML-laden pieces of garbage from loading and "phoning home" to the spammer that my address is valid, is a compelling reason to upgrade in its own right.
Ignoring people's opinions on the quality of any security scanner Microsoft might develop, isn't the Baseline Security Analyzer pretty much the same thing? And it's only made by one shadowy evil coproration, instead of many shadowy evil corporations AND the shadowy evil government!
I don't quite get why it is going to take them a full year to port this thing to the PC. It was my understanding that the X-Box is more or less an x86 architecture computer running a stripped down Windows, with a modified version of DirectX and a controller plugged into it. Shouldn't it be a matter of weeks for them to change the input code to use a keyboard, and plug in some of the original high-res textures? It only took about six months to port GTA3 to the PC from the PS2, and those two platforms have much larger differences than the PC and X-Box. I hope Bungee has some serious overhauls planned, otherwise no one is going to give two craps when the port is finally released.
It doesn't necessarily seem as though KazAa and its brethren were exactly designed with that in mind though. To find a file you have to type in parts of the filename and then search based on that criteria, which for something like a mainstream artist's song, is pretty easy to guess. But what if you want all lectures on the geology of volcanoes? For all you know there are 50 different lectures on KazAa, but they're named "GEO203 Lecture 17.mp3". Until filesharing programs facilitate something like this, I don't see how they can really be used as a conduit for legal, niche-interest content.
I think from a low-level standpoint though, each one could be considered a server to the other. Your client has to connect to another computer, and any computer that accepts incoming connections can be said to be hosting a server. From dictionary.com, a server is "a kind of daemon that performs a service for the requester". Kazaa sitting on your computer waiting for another Kazaa client to call up and say "do you have this file?" is fulfilling that definition.
Though I don't know a whole lot about it, I would assume almost any 3D game you're playing under Linux uses OpenGL for its rendering. On Windows, the other big option is Direct3D from Microsoft, which for obvious reasons has never been ported to Linux. So I imagine some implementation of OpenGL is what the majority of 3D games running under Linux use.
I just went there for the first time after installing Mozilla, and a CheapTickets.com ad popped up in my face. That's weird, I wonder what about their ads makes it possible?
Anthracks
I don't really see the relevance of that. An actual, typed or handwritten letter, signed by a real person, is in no way similar to an online petition. It has been demonstrated on many ocassions that executives, lawmakers, etc. pay attention when their mailbox floods with tons of stamped envelopes, but they don't care if your petition has one million "signers". It is trivial to create a fake online petition; it's a bit more work to fake thousands of letters.
What if the PC version added a new monster or dungeon? Online games DO have multi-megabyte patches precicsely because they are not simply fixing bugs, they are adding content to justify the monthly fee. Unless the PS2 version is going to magically hold an entire DVD worth of info in memory, I don't see how they could possibly patch anything but code in memory. I'll be interested to see how an online RPG with minimal new content each month holds up.
Although I have never actually played EQ or this new expansion that wants such a ludicrous amount of memory, I imagine there is more than a little room for memory use optimization. I've seen screenshots from that expansion, and there are plenty of outdoor 3D engines that blow it out of the water with 1/8 the memory footprint. I am willing to bet, since they have to recode the thing anyway to use the PS2's totally different architecture, they will find a way to make more efficient use of memory.
Earth to moderators...after about 500 of these "Slashdot sux0r, they should have waited for the announcement" it might be safe to stop modding each new one as +5 Insightful. I was hoping to, gasp, hear people's opinions on this new release and get a heads up on any potential problems, instead it's three hundred people bashing the editors for making a free site (yes I know some of you might subscribe, but no one held a gun to your head).
The desire to not slashdot their site is legitimate, but enough is enough; I'd mod half this article's responses down as redundant if I could.
While happen to enjoy games for the same reason you seem to, I don't think the "mass market" segment--the ones who are making the game profitable and thus the ones who the game will be designed for--are motived by roleplaying. Have you actually logged into Asheron's Call or Ultima Online? The worlds are absolutely dominted by "31337 d00dz" who are at the maximum level with more or less the same skillset and equipment, precisely because they DO care mostly about filling in the spreadsheet to maximize their combat effectiveness. I would love it for roleplaying and exploration to play a primary role (no pun intended) in these games, but at the moment I don't see how that is possible. Any game that tries it will either get swamped by d00dz or simply go bankrupt.

I for one found the article excellent, and Hannibal's reply nicely says anything I was going to toss to the troll.
Give this a shot.

Did you actually WATCH Plan 9? I sure hope they've revised their plan since that thing.
COMPLETELY OFF-TOPIC, but did you ever listen to the former band of that site's founder (Gibby), The Trouble? They absolutely rule.
I'm sure he's been RE-elected at least once since 1954, unless he found a way around the fact that senators only serve six year terms...

Hate to burst your bubble, but it's been that way for a while, at least whenever you read a story relating to Apple in some way.
