  1. Re:depends on RPGs - East Versus West? · · Score: 1

I definitely agree with this, I recently tried to play Morrowind and was really impressed with how much freedom I had. This was until I got lost several times, died a bit, and then couldn't find where the plot was going. I gave up playing that and went back to finishing Final Fantasy Tactics, which has a linear storyline, but it's a good one. Sometimes all I want is a good story which I have to fight for.

  2. Re:Interactive movies on RPGs - East Versus West? · · Score: 1

Yeah, they should make a movie from Final Fantasy! That would be great... Or mediocre and overhyped.

Actually the creators of Xenogears/Xenosaga have announced they're going to make a Xenosaga anime, and fans have already cut together Xenosaga episode 1 into a 13 episode anime-like series. Check that out if you want to get the story without the game.

I tried using this, and quite a few other dos emulators to play sam and max (with sound) and none of them worked. I was tearing my hair out until I found ScummVM, which worked first try, and even had a scumm style interface. Works well with Alt-Tabbing and the like in windows too, unlike some dos emu's.

  5. Great story mode on Initial D Tunes Up For Showdown · · Score: 1

I got a chance to play the ps2 game recently and the outstanding part about it was definitely the story mode. It's as close as you can get to driving the races from the anime (and the manga, up to quite recent races.) They reproduce things just as they occur in the series, so if your opponent loses it on a certain corner in the anime, they'll lose it on the same corner in the game, so long as you play your part.

Knowing this requires having seen the actual anime though, so the effect may be lost on newbies to the Initial D franchise.

The physics of the game are pretty much the same as the arcade, so if you like them there, you'll like them in the ps2 version. Here's hoping for an english release!

These sort of studies and comparisons come out every week or so it seems. I wonder if role playing games are happier now that the blame is all being taken by evil video games?

  9. Re:Capcom with the same old formula on SNK Vs Capcom Beta Draws Frenzied Fans · · Score: 1

Well, let's just see what the Capcom America main page has on it. Sure, there are remakes of Megaman and Resident Evil, but there's also Viewtiful Joe, Auto Modellista and PN03 on there, which are hardly unoriginal. Let them make remakes of popular games for people who want them, as long as they also make new innovative stuff too.

  10. Argh, my Download limit on A Blog With Unlimited Bandwidth (Beta 1.2) · · Score: 1

This may be great for people with unlimited downloads, but (at least here is Australia) most people have a limit on their downloads before they are capped or charged. Unless there's some way of limiting the amout you download this is going to be pretty annoying. At least with bittorrent you know exactly how much you're downloading when you get a file.

  12. CPU based vs Video card based on Gabe Newell Talks Half-Life 2 · · Score: 1

From what I've seen in the demo videos about, the most impressive things about HL2 are not the graphics as such, but things like the physics and AI. The graphics are no slouch, but the real innovation is in stuff like being able to throw things around realistically and be killed by really smart enemies (much like the first Half Life). All this makes me think that having a fast CPU would be more important than the latest video card, which is great as CPUs are a lot cheaper.

  13. Music store compatible? on 60G Nomad Zen vs. The iPod · · Score: 1

This probably won't affect most people, but Apple's new music store isn't going to work with the zen, unless there's some hidden aac playing ability. If aac suddenly becomes the format of choice (I doubt it) the zen is going to have to play it to level with the Ipod.

  14. Re:difference between 'best' and 'first'? on Top 100 Games Of All Time Decided - Again · · Score: 1

This is a good point. A more relevant list might be the best game in each (sub-)Genre of games. So Doom wouldn't be in there as it has been overshadowed in almost every way by games like quake, Halflife and maybe Doom 3. You could have best 'scary' FPS, best 'funny' FPS, best strategy FPS etc. That way if I wanted to check out a game in that genre I could go straight for the best one. I imagine that list could get quite long, depending how fine grained your genre choices were.
