I kinda feel sorry for these scientists if they have to falsify these kind of discoveries in order to get any sort of recognition in their respective fields. Although I guess saying that going through an experiment and failing to get the results that you wanted to wouldn't be too glorious either. Perhaps there are smaller discoveries that are needed in order to tackle these much larger needs, for example to create fusion for energy. Although even with these kinds of things happening. I hope that these can happen shortly, because it seems that news is tending to slow down as of late.

This is also a reason why apple probably won't go over to x86 more than likely. Because if microsoft loses any usershare from pc users going over to MacOS, then they would pull their mac support extremely quickly. Although I would disagree with you as to Dell having the advantage of this situation, I would say that hp has it more than dell does, because they have a large user base, being that they have made printers for a long time. You just have to think about it this way, who sells more computers, Dell, or everyone but Dell, I mean because Dell will not even earn money on selling their own printers, and, I would by far rather get a printer from HP than Dell, because when I think of the Dell brand, I am reminded of the quality of their computers, which is not too great in my opinion.

Although I am still with you as to saying that it is a dumb idea to have a holiday to celebrate the sysadmin, just like I think it is dumb to celebrate for any other occupation. because it is the job of those people to do their function, with or without extra recognition. I actually help people with computers, because I actually love to see them pick up on how these things work, and then if it is broken, I like the challenge of fixing the thing. I would have to say that there are others like me, but since the .com bubble, there are a lot of the admins that you describe because they are in it for the money, which is not the right idea in the first place. Those type of people shouldn't be admins in the first place because they usually lack the kind of pragmatism that is required to fix a true computer problem, oh, I have been trained to use x tools, so if it is a problem with y, it is because y is defective type of crap. I would say that you should show more appreciation for people as they help you, if they truely are an asset to what you do on a daily basis.

Although I have been waiting for this program to come out personally for a very long time. This is because although I do like what kdevelop and anjuta offer, they aren't very friendly with my gentoo 1.3b install that I am currently running. I would say that this would also be a good thing for professional developers to look at when upgrading their own development environments, because with the uptime that linux has, and the completely developer friendly design, with a multi-platform tool with the most widely used programming language, this could be a very positive thing for them as well.

Also IMHO, I don't think that NVidia's drivers are that great in linux, first because it is a slightly more painful process than any other driver to install, it has a binary only driver, and opengl spec. Which, on a machine with another version of gl, doesn't work too well. For example, gltron is smart enough to pick up the NV renderer, but Return to Castle Wolfenstein really isn't. Which is why, I am waiting for the first non-NVidia company to make even half-way decent linux drivers, since I could give less of a damn with having high frame rates(I have a GeForce 2 MX right now) its not like any of the next gen cards will be a downgrade in performance anyway.

My first priority will be converting my siblings, because well, first off they are easier to convert to new technology, because my mom a few years ago couldn't do anything with the computer besides turn the thing on, run calculator, and maybe, maybe use word. I have installed RedHat 7.2 on my sister's computer, and have shown my brother my install of RH 7.3, and well, since their computers aren't the greatest powers in the world, celeron 300a, and p133 respectively, they are very interested in something that would run faster than windows, since all they really do with their computers is homework, and games that have counterparts in linux already. Then if all three of us actually use and like linux for a while, I will hope that the Wine project has gotten to the point of allowing the applications that are normally used on the family computer to run in a non-Microsoft environment.

Others would be ones that are from services that I would need, for example sites on linux, or software that I will run in that system, I figure that they not only get my actual effort, but my real name and contact info as well. As for others, or even some of those that I do make exceptions for, I know very well, that the main reason for web registration is to create a revenue stream for themselves, which is completely understandable, since the dot net crash, there has been a need to find a way to make web content profitable. For example Gamespot.com has tried something where they charge a rate for their premium services, for example downloading anything from them, or reading reviews for games after a month or so.. I actually liked most of their reviews, and found their downloads to be convenient, but I am not willing to pay for that service because I didn't honestly think that much of their services. There are many other sites that have approaches similar, it just depends on personal preference if it is truely worth it, and if not, then just don't use the services. But for sites that just require registration, at least in the past there have been slashdotters, who have created usernames for the New York Times so that others could view the site without the inconvinience of having to register themselves.
