Economics and ideology don't mix, it often depends on the situation what is the right course of action to keep the market healthy, and I am comfortable with being 'checked' by people who disagree with me here.
On civil rights though we can not waver, as the opposition scares the crap out of me.
...free flow of information is the only safeguard against tyranny. The once-chained people whose leaders at last lose their grip on information flow will soon burst with freedom and vitality, but the free nation gradually constricting its grip on public discourse has begun its rapid slide into despotism. Beware of he who would deny you access to information, for in his heart he dreams himself your master.

That's way illogical dude.
There's a secessionist party for Alaska. Being in it is different that not being in it, so saying she's no worse than any other Alaskan doesn't make sense because not every Alaskan is in it.
I can find one Alaskan who does not support secession to disprove you.
She certainly is talented at getting people to like her, great charisma and ambition, though I think her lack of knowledge is revealed pretty easy. Most people could have done a better job with the Couric interview, it should not be that hard to discuss basic economics and court cases that high schoolers study.
Money corrupted them. They became the party of big business and Imperialism, and then started to use conservative religion and populist racism to stay in power, abandoning the progressive principles they were founded with.
Once the civil rights movement arrived and the South switched colors, the transformation was complete. The republicans had become the party they had been created to fight, and the democrats had been reborn as the progressive party.
What the hell does having grandkids have to do with successfully raising children.
You raised adult women, not baby making machines. It's their choice to procreate, and they are not failures if they do not do so. There is a lot more to life than procreation. I'm sure they would appreciate not having any pressure in that matter.
One problem I feel is that a page should have considerable time of protection. As you can see, the buzz of deletionpedia is still growing, so it is actively becoming notable. If articles that were correct could have 30 days to build their cases that would at least be some improvement.
The proclamation was still the most sweeping statement against slavery ever made up until that point, and changed the game by making slavery controlled by the executive branch instead of the congressional.
Some northerners fought to maintain the Union, and some fought to free the slaves. Some were racists, and some were do or die abolitionists. I don't think that part is too whitewashed but maybe I've read enough history. The fact that the Jim Crow laws were passed after the abolition fervor died down is sad, but the north was exhausted from the war and the Nation wasn't about to rip itself apart again. What they accomplished was pretty amazing all things considered.
Lincoln couldn't have the proclamation abolish slavery in all states because he didn't want states like Kentucky to rebel against him. He knew that in time they would grow to support abolition, as Maryland had. However, he need the proclamation to reenergize Northern spirit, and to pave the way for black soldiers to be recruited to swell the Northern ranks.
They seceded because of the slavery question, it is well documented, 100%. That was the issue that was dividing the nation, and had completely consumed the politics. If there had been no slaves, they may have one day been a civil war over another issue, but slavery was the issue of the day.
The fact that they felt they could secede however was a state's rights issue. If the constitution had been more centralized perhaps it would have prevented or hindered succession talk.
Sad thing is I feel it's not likely that liberals will unite with the same fervor as conservatives because their idealism tends to get in the way. That is why liberal leaders who can momentarily unite the party are always hailed so highly, because it is like herding cats.
Lincoln is a good example of this, managing to placate the abolitionists and the anti-war crowd at the same time.
As a liberal my position is this:
Economics and ideology don't mix, it often depends on the situation what is the right course of action to keep the market healthy, and I am comfortable with being 'checked' by people who disagree with me here.
On civil rights though we can not waver, as the opposition scares the crap out of me.
The KFC is closed, but the Popeye's is open!
Quick and extreme change scares the bejesus out of people and creates reactionary movements. It is usually avoided.
Change that lasts is always made slowly.
odds are it would have been a more moderate version too.
5 is right out.

One reason why mpg has gone down is the increase in horsepower.
The more powerful the car, the more gas it uses, and for decades 'more power!' was the cry of the auto-makers.
