I don't believe he said get rid of condensation - he was talking about keeping it under control. Oberg's been in this business for a long time and probably knows more about the Russian space program than anyone else on this side of the planet.
Good, point taken - we're going too far in our fight to protect ourselves.
But where is the balance between this position (we're doing too much) and the other side of the aisle who says we don't (didn't) do enough? I agree that a "3-day waiting period":) isn't practical, but is there a more appropriate way to address the problem?
Meanwhile, it's been 6 yrs since 9-11. We haven't had an attack in those 6 yrs - which may or may not be attributable to the current administration - but you still find it notable to mention that "this administration is hell bent on destroying those very same freedoms in this country." [/rant]
I guess I'm just trying to say it gets old hearing people complain while offering no alternative solution. Not trying to troll, I just wish we could make things constructive and not political.
Isn't their pitch like a K-Mart blue-light special? Ie, buy our $4k membership now, as this is your only chance. Can't sleep on it and purchase tomorrow, non-refundable after 3 days...
Garth Brooks did this about 10 yrs ago (that I know of - maybe even more often). He started out here in Houston with 3 shows or so. When they sold out, he announced another show or two. I think they even went one more round. When all was said and done, he had about a half dozen sold out concerts.
Ticketmaster's been bending us over for years...now we're to feel bad for them? It's too bad TM has such a stronghold on the industry - ticket sales ain't rocket science, especially not at a convenience fee of $10+.... per ticket.
Maybe I'm just growing more jaded toward our society in general, but it seems that as a whole, everyone seems to be gravitating to the Me First attitude, where it's all about Me. Rude drivers who cut to the front of the line, instant gratification whores (what do you mean that item is out of stock? I want it now!!), people who just don't think the rules apply if they're not happy. Here's a guy that thinks he can waltz into an auditorium and act like a lunatic.
Why are we afraid of a good, old-fashioned ass whooping? That's why he needs, IMHO. His right to air his grievances is fine as long as he doesn't encroach on other people's rights. And he did. He got tased - and instead of hobbling around for a few days with bruises and a black eye, he's no worse for the wear. Perhaps he should be thankful that's all he got...
You're right. It's a pain compliance tool. Research tasers - this isn't the barbed style that incapacitates you for a few seconds - it's the localized stun mode designed to get the guy to shut up, listen, and comply. Not a lot different from the cop putting his knee on the back of your head as he cuffs you or locking out your wrist.
He was looking for a bleeding heart reaction - you've been played.
I put it on my iAudio X5L a couple months ago - no, it's not as responsive, but the added features, ability to mod, and the fact that I usually just let it play means that it's staying on my player.
While I do think that free TV content should be freely available on the internet, none of the reasons you've given above justify downloading material illegally. Just because you don't want to spend the money doesn't mean you can steal their shit.
Our time is better spent convincing the media execs why making their content available is a Good Idea.
On cars, the computers keep the engines from over reving or running on too rich a mixture, both of which can damage the hardware. If you mod the software in your engine's computers you void the warrantee.
But when my bumper falls off, they're not going to spend shop time to hook it up to a scanner to check to see if I've fscked with the software (I have). If I have some injectors go bad, you can bet that one of the first things they do will be to hook it up to the scanner. That's why they void your drive train warranty, not the bumper to bumper. Pretty good analogy here - if you're burning up hard drives or CPUs - sure, the OS check is valid. If keys keep popping off the keyboard or hinges crack, it's non-OS related.
You may or may not have noticed, but many websites, including this one, are using more and more javascript, which are what the speed tests were measuring (sue me, I RTFA'd). So it's not so much the initial load time, as it is how fast other things happen once the page has been displayed.

No one disputes that, but it's still the best manned vehicle. Kinda like telling your buddy that his Porsche ain't shit because it's not a Ferrari...as you crawl back into your Chevette.
Seems like they've been pushing their own proprietary stuff for the past 20 yrs - most recently Blue Ray, but then there was that miniDisc that went nowhere. Not sure...did they have a roll in VHS/Beta? I used to be a fanboy, but it seems they get more negative press anymore.
That's a fairly naive thing to say. First of all, the current drives are probably not on the order of 300GB - I believe the Toshiba notebooks are 60GB. So you've taken your "at least two or more years" and dropped it by a factor of 5. 2ndly, what's involved in upgrading a flash drive? The current hard drives in notebooks are easy enough to remove, but I've never replaced one because a) I haven't had one fail and b) reloading a new drive sucks. Lastly, when memory addresses fail, is it graceful or do you lose data silently? If it's the latter, it's every bit as bad as the floating-point bug.
If I have to replace my hard drive every couple years, that just might be enough to call it a step backwards.
Come on, post the nicknames! :)
Yeah...hard to believe some people go there on vacation...to ride bikes, no less.
[raising hand] 65" of HD goodness, but over-the-air is good by me.

Any screenshots hanging around to show the evolution of slashdot?

I ran the numbers myself and yes, it is over half. Here, open this file and see for yourself:

I guess you missed the part about him not following orders from a police officer.
And resisting itself is illegal.
This is like coming up to an intersection where there's a cop car diverting traffic and you ignore him. Then cry foul when an incident arises...
What they did amounted to torture.

most people reject it after trying it
How do you figure? 17% is probably more than last year...the numbers are still going up. Where is it exactly that you get "most " from?

Here's a fun experiment - go to said store, buy some items, and mark the receipt with your own yellow marker prior to leaving...
