Once again this is an example of a corporation expected the law to protect a ludicrous business model

//devil's advocate ON// Do you have a cell phone? Did you get it FREE when you signed up? How about your DSL modem? Same thing. Why isn't there a big move to hack cell phones or run our DSL with another provider? Ok, we don't have our own towers, blah blah blah. Just wanted to point out that M$ isn't the only company with this business model. //devil's adv OFF//

I guess I'm mostly impartial on this issue, but it seems for the most part we like to scream freedom because it's Bill Gates that we're dealing with. Why is there such a big push to hack it? If it's a freedom thing, what's wrong with the PC you're using? If it's the challenge, beer's to you.

Good article, but the author assumes that Spam will migrate to look like regular messages. Isn't that somewhat counter-intuitive to marketing stuff? You want something that will catch the reader's eye. I think simply following a link that leads to an ad will tick someone off more than anything. Isn't the target audience for spam those who find flashing text intriguing?

  4. Re:That's not gonna work. on Computer Room Hot? · · Score: 1

No, I believe it /could/ work, but it's not as simple as slamming a hose on your computer and attaching it to the wall. If it's an exterior wall, you should go ahead and vent it properly like a dryer vent. With an interior wall, you could cut a hole in the wall cap in the attic and attach a fan to help pull the air up. Better yet, run the hose up the wall to the attic. Then you're golden.

But if you're on an interior wall on the first floor and the attic isn't right above you...get a slower CPU.

Agree totally. Remember Eagle Talon? When I was in college, it was the car I dreamed about. Even went to the assembly plant in Illinois. This car was the same thing as the Mitsubishi Eclipse. They slapped a different logo on and the ground effects and spoilers were somewhat different. However, the main distinction between the two was sales. The Eclipse was $3k or $4k MORE and OUTSOLD the Talon. Eagle no longer even exists, and they're stilling pounding out the Eclipse to this day, some 5 years later!!

Consumers spent more for the same car strictly due to name recognition.

I think it's the same thing that drives people to collect a bagful a free crap at a trade show. They just never realize that they don't need it and only focus on the fact they didn't have to pay for it. Or, maybe in some sick, twisted, sadistic way they actually enjoy being in crowds of people scavange for crap.
