But when I leave the computer I don't really wanna take it with me. I don't wanna phone that can get internet. I want a phone that is simple...
I have a dad that has a pda, digital camera, gps. Its beyond annoying when you have to stop because someone in your group has to check the gps corodanites for the place you are at. Technology is great, But so is this world. Lets enjoy the world and technology, But make sure that we have a balance. If your balance is take your pda everywhere with you then thats your choise.
How are they going to translate all those mispelled words, Oh and those annoying shortening of words because people are too lazy to spell out the 4,5,6 letter word.
But wouldn't Bugging supposibly potential customers that are on the do not call list, Really arn't potential customers. So wouldn't bugging them just tick them off, then say leaving them alone and letting them find you if they need service/product. --Just a thought.
When dvd's where just out, I remember hearing That you could watch a the movie with a lower ratting. But now since they failed on their promise (or claim) third party company's are filling the niche. Then the Movie studio's get angry.. Wait didn't they say that dvd's could filter stuff for me.. And then never put that filtering feature in. Seems to me that some directors are just high and mighty and need some humbling.
Elementry schools don't need computers in every classroom, they can have a shared computer lab. Your supposed to learn the basic's, such as reading, writing, how to do math with your head. Then when you get into junoir high and highschool you can do more with computers. Besides that, Computers are going change so much that by the time a elementry student gets into junoirhigh and highschool the computers are going to change so much that what computer knowlegde they gained in elementry isn't going to be much of a use. yah yah don't worry kid's can keep up with computers. This may of sound like a rant or over dramatic. But it does provide a point.
Well I made my first comment just to the point accross that just using a packet network to save cost's, may not be the best idea. Things have to be done right. I really don't have a problem if they develop new standards. Instead of just using voip. Whatever they want to do, we need a bunch of telco's developing a new standerd. Instead of just hacking onto tcp/ip (or whatever)Another thought: Things work more smoothly when we work on it together and let it mature.
Some things are not ment to be packetized.. I say voice communiction is one of them. I like having a call having its own dedicated bandwidth, That Can't be doss'd to be hungup.
Sure it will make things cheaper, but is it really the correct thing to do. Also with packet networks They are not inherently secure, Switched networks are. (once you get over the taps)
I have a wireless keyboard with media keys. But its still too big to carry around like a remote.. Thats where this thing could come in handy. This thing could be put to use for more then just IM. What other thing Idea's do people have?
I wonder how long it will take linux to make this device appear as a terminal.
You could admin your box from anywhere in the house.. Or you could watch your cpu usage from the roof.
This is slashdot, news for nerds. I think this article pass's the test. Just because its not practicle doesn't mean it shouldn't be posted.. You never know if it will inspire someone to invent something that will change the world, as unlikly as that is.. Someone will at least learn something from it..
I have always found that when you cheat, you become weaker. So the person that goes againsn't the cheater becomes better since he/she has to fight harder to win, while the cheater doesn't have to work as hard to win..
So the cheaters are only harming themselves, but they still are annoying.
X11 isn't as Bad as everything thinks. The way I see X being slow is that widgets need to be on server-side instead of client-side. Right now the client Draws everything useing X primitives, sending the raw data (pixmaps, whatnot) to the server over the network. Now if the server had the widgets on its side the client would just have to tell the server the type, size, position of the widget, Instead of sending a pixmap.
This would help things such as less bandwidth, less cpu overhead for eash client.
Maybe this could even be implimented in a X- extentsion
Maybe I am just showing my ignorance here, But an idea is an idea.
Why would they need to build a Backdoor in.

Its over ip, Ever hear of a packet sniffer...
VOIP is cool, but is being taken a little too far.
Voice/Video should be seperate from the data networks.
ME.
The DMCA should take a hint and get off everyones back.
I was watching the making of star wars making of type shows and there were mac's on pretty much every workstation. Now do they really want to lock down a platform that is used to create the movies (media), seems to me that that would reduce the amount of programs to use to create the content.
Is that what they really want.
Now I didn't get to read the article so I may be wrong. (it was slashdoted)
your right you have not used os X there are two kind of users in os X admins and regular users the admins can use sudo while the users may not be able to sudo or with certain resrictions
