I am a teacher at a junior high school in Japan, and this mindset is completely foreign to the boys here. I often see boys hugging eachother, holding hands, and sitting on eachothers laps among other things. I don't think I have lived here long enough to understand exactly why it is like this here.. but my best guess is that the Japanese don't think that any of them could possibly be gay. This is a country that isn't too open to the idea of being gay, so you would think that boys acting like this would be scrutinized. Since they assume that there are no gay Japanese people, then they don't have to worry about acting too feminine. I see boys with pink stickers all over their pencil boxes. The kind of stuff you see here would get a boy beat up in America. I am sure I don't understand it completely.. but I thought I would just share my experiences from the other side.

I don't know about where you live, but getting an apprenticeship is nearly impossible around here... The skilled trade of being an electrician is wanted by many around here, and the demand is far too low to find a job for the amount of people interested in it. I'd have better luck finding a programming job here than an electrician apprenticeship.

  7. Re:Reliability? on Guinness's World's Smallest Hard Drive Record · · Score: 1

Is the drive physically larger? If not, then it would probably be less reliable. This is because when the capacity increases in hard drives, they don't make the platters bigger or anything (as the drives would have no standard). Instead they find ways to cram more data into the same physical space. If you have a ton of data in a tiny space, you are going to have a larger data loss if something like a head crash were to happen.

  8. Dish Network on Cable TV Versus Satellite TV? · · Score: 1

I used to have Dish Network for about 2 years. I live in Iowa, and we can have some very fierce weather, only a few times has the signal gone out. When the signal did go out those few times, the disruption only lasted a few minutes. Recently I switched to cable (cableone) due to the fact that they gave me an insanely good deal to trade in my dish. I have broadband through cable, so I am getting a great price now. I really miss Dish Network though, as the reception on my cable is far from satellite quality. Even digital cable doesnt look as good for some reason. I don't get near as many choices in programming for the price I did with Dish. Speaking of signals going out, since I got cable several months ago, I have had more disruptions in service than I ever had on Dish Network in 2 years. I am really thinking about giving up the great deal I'm getting on cable to switch back to Dish Network. It is a great service that I highly recommend.

  9. Onstar anyone? on Satellites Used to Stop Car Thieves in Pakistan · · Score: 5, Informative

Onstar has had these capabilities in most GM equipped cars for quite some time now. They use the tracking abilities for catching car thieves, they use Onstar to unlock car doors if you lock your keys in the car, they also have the ability to monitor or change any of the guages in the car as well. Whether they use all of the technology or not is another question, but the technology is in the US already.
