That is not necessarily true, I live in the state of California and it seems people are often more willing to spend money then goverment. This is based on the sheer amount of useless intiatives that are passed, that use up tax dollars. It seems people truly don't see much of a connection between what they vote, and what their tax bill is.
You see, I hear motorcyclists say this all the time. The car is always at fault(not in your case, but in many cases) yet these are also the same people that weave inbetween lanes in rush hour traffic. The same people that do 80 on the freeway. When I was driving in Utah, I was making a right turn and a motorcyclist slammed into our left side. Why? Because he wasn't paying attention. In the police report he specifically said he got distracted, and when he looked up, it was too late. He was allright because of his helmet, he got a torn ligament in his knee, and scrapes along his hands and right side. So from my experience, of watching, and participating in an accidents, I have a feeling, that most accidents are in fact caused by motorcyclists.
Now try compressing that Excel spreadsheet. If it's anything like word it should shrink tremendously. Compression works just as well for the office formats as for the openoffice XML formats.
My god... how dare we discuss anything besides the worlds problems? Life isn't about fun after all, and slashdot really is a website that's devoted to worldwide news.
Ummmm, there was a whole show on NPR devoted just to how common cheating on the GRE is in asia. The reason why they don't administer online tests anymore is because everybody there cheats.
The issue with the situation his friend has is clearly, the GRE is a poor reflection of a person, maybe there should be a better test?
Ensign: Sir our server usage has gone up by 0.1% because of a website called Slash... Dot...
Commander: I see, Ensign, initiate bandwith kill
*Shot of slashdot server flaming*
I hear this being batted around, Apple's pricing is fairly comparable to Dell. Well always remember this, Apple has a 20% margin on their PC's, Dell has maybe a 2-3% one. So I honestly don't think you get the same for your money with a Mac hardware wise.
That, and some would argue, at least gun control proponents. That the right to bear arms was not meant to mean everybody should carry guns, yet allow for a state militia:).
Yes, you can download free compilers, the.NET SDK is actually free, granted it's windows only... but still, it is in fact free. VS.NET is just built on top of that:).
I believe the photoshop is of a unique serial number for each prototype unit. Hence, if that number gets out they can trace the leak, and reporters protect their sources.
Or the whole thing could be a hoax, whatever *shrug*
You should see our school parking lot(this is the bay area). New IS-300's and M3's C230's, C300's. I don't think theres a car older then 15 years there.
Sun's first lawsuit told Microsoft you can't make new versions of their VM. That's any new version. Hence, Microsoft said fine, we will just not include their VM as it's useless, and why the hell should we include Sun's?
Quite funnily(is that a word, if not, it should be) the Powerbook and iBook would benefit most from DDR, because of it's low power usage. I am not sure however if it produces more heat or not, although I would assume less?
I am sorry, but all I ever hear is how Microsoft is going to screw users over with their DRM technology. Yet what motivation do they have? Last time I checked they weren't an **AA member? I guess I am curious as to why MSFT would bother.
Stable, how about 2k? For me it's been easier to use and more stable then linux+KDE or GNOME(which is honestly the only worthwhile comparison.) Off course it has driver issues, compared to linux though, it really is a saint in that department(drivers actually exist). So please, I don't care if this is modded as flamebait, stop bashing MS because its cool to.
I hate to say it but sprints 3G network is dirt cheap, you can use it for the same rates as the non 3g, and if you want data, its 10$ flat a month.

Try again, the right to reverse engineer encryption for compatability is specifically IN the DMCA. :)

To be fair, NT was in fact coded inhouse from scratch.
They are taking orders to VAR's. They are trying to go for a very low support model. RTFA?

I can already see the commercials.

But I won't buy it until it runs linux...

I would not consider JBoss much of a competitor though. People already mentioned BEA(my personal favorite) Oracle also makes a web application server.
Which off course is monopolist and illegal, just because they say it's true, does not make it so.
