And don't get me wrong, I hope Microsoft fails miserably. I hope they are taken down and have to become just another software company. Not because they are so big and successful, but because they use unethical and strong-arm tactics to get their way. I despise them for the same reason I despise other bullies. People are quick to call it "business" but it's not. It's wrong. Capitalism is supposed to work by letting the market dictate what consumers want and what sells. Microsoft is quick to tell competitors they better leave the market or be forced to deal with a company with a seemingly endless flow of cash and power. Viva le Google!

Far be it from me to defend Microsoft, but since when is an employee entitled to a share of profits? That is just gross ignorance of how things really work. When they took the job, was this negotiated? Did Microsoft say, "By the way, you will get a percentage of all company profits if you work for us?" If not, then there is no "fair share." In fact, if they are getting the salary they agreed upon, they're in fact getting their "fair share."

I have no idea. My wife uses AOL but I never touch the stuff. Here's the interesting thing. Microsoft's MSN site is shunned by the majority of users. Most people who are tech savy at all replace their home page with something other than MSN. So Microsoft is once again looking to hijack users, as opposed to lure them. Is this really what you want? We've said for years that Microsoft couldn't compete one-on-one with their competition. It would appear that perhaps they realize that. Why else would you want your users to use your service with either a) no choice or b) no idea that they really are?

The growing concern by broadcasters and Hollywood puts TiVo in a spot. However, I think standing by their customers and taking this challenge head-on is a good approach. Their customers want the features they have grown accustomed to. I think it's in their best interest to fight for their customers here. Like digital music, TV is at the crossroads of a new way of viewing movies and shows. We can hope they stand at this juncture and say, "Look, Guys, this is not 1975. It's time to move into the new age here."

There just is simply no reason to bite the Microsoft bullit anymore. The whole "support" issue is largely a myth. Anyone can support Linux and UNIX if they are technically inclined. If you have a technician who feels they can't learn Linux then they are really not technically minded. They've merely learned to support Microsoft products. There is a big difference and learning that difference will better prepare your company. Given the conveluted licensing scheme Microsoft uses, the cost of renewing, the fact that you be having to make compulsory upgrades at a cost, and the fact that OSS is just outright cheaper, I can find no reason to move to Microsoft if I were launching a new infrastructure.

Rush Limbaugh voice the opinion that Donovan McNabb was overrated. He followed it up with the idea that sports writers built him up because he's black and they want to see black quarterback's succeed. He, in effect, accused them of racial favoritism (racism). Yet, his comments were labelled racist, even though technically they were not. You may like or hate Limbaugh, but his statement was not racist. Yet, many liberals managed to paint it as such. They were quite successful, in fact. Liberals can't see their racism because they are racists with good intentions. It's okay to promote a black over a white because the "scale needs to tip the other way to balance itself."
Give you another: Barbara Bush made the statement that many evacuees who went to Houston were underpriveleged and are probably fairing better since the storm due to the outpouring of support from the community. She was called a snob. Yet an LA Time writer said in effect the same thing. That this storm would give the underpriveled a new start, a better start. Not a word. Not exactly an illustration of racism but it shows the double-standard liberals always seem to impose. This may not be your views, but don't kid yourself into thinking that this isn't the very philosophy of Ted Kennedy, MoveOn.org, and the insanely loud contingent on the left. They are, in my opinion, political looters.
