Wait. That joke was racist? I don't see race mentioned, and I believe it comes from the perspective of Europeans who deal with American tourists, not Americans trivializing our immigrant population.
It is a knock on our education and arrogance, not our diversity. Hell, the entire premise is that knowing more than one language is good. People need to lighten up.
I hide in my apartment for a month, because I can't stand everyone telling me one thousand reasons why I should like it on a daily basis, and then receiving their ridicule when I reveal I don't particularly care for it.
I hate Master Chief as much as I hate Santa Claus. And Jesus.
when two 'hardcore' gamers get into the same room. Mario, Metroid, and Zelda are different games in 3D. It is unfair to judge a 3D game by the merits of the mechanics of a 2D predecessor. The fact that all three franchises have become critical and financial successes after the switch to 3D suggests that for any great thing that was lost, other things were added.
Too many gaming enthusiasts are ridiculously conservative when it comes to things they love. I can't tell you how many threads I have read angry at changes in X or Y franchises that infuriate the enthusiasts but make the games more enjoyable for others. Get over it, things change. If you enjoy Super Metroid more than Metroid Prime, shut the fuck up and play Super Metroid. Nothing is stopping you. I wished Twilight Princess was more like the Wind Waker, so I played the Wind Waker again. Maybe Wind Waker 2 would have been too much like the first if they had made it.
I, for one, like to be surprised. If there is no change, I get bored. Sure, this means I open myself to surprises I don't like, but it is better than getting the same thing over and over. I wish some would hire video game journalists that feel the same as I do, so I could start to trust reviews.
This argument about Metroid where one person says 3D isn't good because of what it has lost and the other says it is good because it hasn't lost certain things is moronic. What about what it has gained? Why did I, owner of Metroid in 1987, never complete a Metroid game until Metroid Prime? They don't care or they are unable to understand.
Take a look at THQ. They are the new Acclaim. Most of their games are shovelware, and they are mostly rated 'E.' Publishers put effort in "mature" games because they think they will sell. Yes, there are plenty of shitty "mature" games, but if a publisher is more willing to pay for shiny graphics and comprehensive marketing for those games, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophesy.
If I had a dollar for every time a doctor almost killed me because they were to certain of themselves to do the proper testing (an X-ray) and research (PDR), I would have 3 dollars.
That, my friend, is 3 dollars too many.
I fear the day I get a serious disease, because I can't trust doctors with a sinus infection.
This made me pull a WTF? Proves us wrong? I'd say it's been pretty clear for a long while now that Nintendo has indeed pulled out of the hardcore section of the market.
If you had read the whole article, you would have seen that the writer made the point that Nintendo never aimed for the hardcore audience. "Hardcore" is a bullshit word anyway--a hallmark of geek pretension.
Miyamoto "proves us wrong," because he is often causing change for the better, but gamers, journalists, and developers question his vision at first.
As a writer and a comedian of varying degrees of success, I feel copyright is way too long. I think a Physics book written in 1970 should be free by now. Mickey Mouse should be in the hands of independent cartoonists so they can make derivative works.
Why not?
Even in the best case scenario where the artist owns his or her work, long copyright terms reduce the pressure for the artist to continue to create. In reality, companies hold most of the copyrights and profit off them with little or no compensation for the actual artist. A shorter copyright period would loosen the companies' collective grips on the artists and allow those artists to use their own works outside of that contract in their lifetime.
That is not true. The nunchuk's analog stick and buttons are accessible. Also all of the Wiimote's buttons are accessible for any of many non immediate functions. All you really need to do in battle in an FPS is run (analog stick), point (wiimote pointer), shoot (B trigger), maybe jump (Z trigger), and maybe change weapons (C button). Changing weapons, using non combat items or devices, or even reloading could be set to the wiimote. It would force your hand off the trigger, but I don't see a problem with that when you are performing actions that should take your finger off the trigger.
The same people upset about the rumor that SSB won't have online will be the people who will flood Nintendo's boards with complaints of "unplayable lag" when it is released and has online.
Somehow a large porton of "hardcore" gamers take everything that doesn't satisfy them as an insult.
Honestly, most people don't enjoy grinding to beat a boss. Zelda has always had the best strategy to deal with that problem. To get to the boss, you need to be right equipment to beat him. That doesn't have to be easy, but it is a hell of a lot more sane and enjoyable than backtracking into another hour or two of random battle hell.
Katamari just left. Dragon Quest left too. Many of their other past exclusives are going multi-platform. The Wii is outselling the PS3 6:1 month to month in Japan, 4:1 month to month in America. Third parties are scrambling to hedge their bets, because Sony is already a distant third.
I don't know what you have been reading, but so far Sony is in a nosedive this generation.
Yes, but cosmology is not as easily observable and no way near as testable as the examples you give. We only see so little of the universe. The actual entirety of the universe might be bigger than we believe, and maybe even bigger than we can possibly imagine. We have no way of knowing; we can only assume and make theories. I personally think the idea of the dying universe is not a very likely one. If the energy of the universe is going to bleed out into nothingness, how did it collect in the first place? Hell, how did the universe get any energy at all?
Cosmology has a loooooooong way to go before they really understand the fate of what we call the universe.
Sadly, in modern America, the truth often needs propaganda to be heard. Our health care system is in tatters. Corruption and kickbacks run rampant. Pharmaceutical propaganda runs 24/7 on our televisions. Almost no one is willing to stand up for us.
They are probably thinking about a nitroglycerin or epinephrine type prescription where high risk patients carry it with them so they can take it immediately if the shit hits the fan.
He had 11 returned. Assuming that the failure rate is the same for all 360s and that he is the only one who has had the problem, the failure rate would need to be at least 23% or one in every 4.33.

Yes.
Though I didn't know that slashdot was the Church of Halo. Maybe it should say "Master Chief Saves" on the front page.

Too bad they didn't play Starfox Adventures and Conker's Bad Fur Day before they did.

Wii Sports is the Wii's killer ap, and it is bundled with the system.
It is a much better game than most game journalists think it is.
Japanese publishers will have to start supporting the Wii with their 'core' games, because no one owns an XBOX to play them on.

Make them out of potatoes... and etch them with salt and vinegar.
My 51st birthday. If it does hit, at least I will have some student loans left when I die.
About $40,000 dollars in tuition differential for my completely worthless degree in Astrophysics.

I really don't see a true downside.
I was contending that it would not be useless for an FPS game.

Wii Fit will be in every newscast fluff piece this christmas.
