  1. My list on DS Game Port Wishlist · · Score: 1

Picross could make it very easily. There's already a picross game on the Palm platform that someone made, so Picross is almost a natural fit.

For that matter, I'm very surprised Astraware and Popcap haven't been porting their Palm titles to the DS. The stylus is nothing new in gaming (heck, its just a one button mouse essentially), since Palm/PocketPC games usually involve the stylus. The DS is different with the two screens and the introduction of the stylus to the mainstream.

Regardless, Panel de Pon/Tetris Attack/Pokemon Puzzle Challenge could probably fair well. Can anyone explain what makes this different from Yoshi's Cookie? And for that matter, is there any difference from Diamond Mine/Bejeweled?

I would love to see an F-Zero game on this as well. Hopefully if Mario Kart DS pulls off well, that'll usually be Nintendo's follow-up racing game. A Mario Paint-esque title would be good as well. Simcity should get brought on because that would work really well too. Maybe even some sort of networked version too.

I would also love to see something from the Seiken Densetsu series on here, since the multiplayer would be cake to pull off with the built-in wireless. Hopefully Square's World of Mana that was announced recently will do this.

I had to play AC2 as part of a class on Social Issues in Games. The game looks nice, but when I had to do this back in March the servers were pretty much devoid of people (aside from the sudden influx of ~25 people).

I don't think Turbine is too worried though, they're expecting the D&D Online game and Middle-Earth Online game to be much more popular than AC2.

Just to add to this, Nintendo has been around longer than either compnay (at least 100 years) as they started as a playing card maker. They still produce Hanafuda cards and others to this day.

Nintendo as a company isn't going anywhere.

  11. Predictable Boss Fights on Top Ten Game Cliches · · Score: 1

I know they flagged Metroid Prime 2 on this, but they seem to forget that is how boss fights work in the series. Look at the 2D Metroid games. Same way. It's not cliche when it's the way boss fights have worked in every single Metroid game to date.

If they want non-cliche boss fights, they can take the Cyberdemon and Spider Mind from Doom 1. No weak points, just need to lay the smack down on them for a while. Oh and lets not forget the insane amount of dodging you have to do from a fast rocket launcher or twin miniguns (depending on who you're fighting).

Pick your poison: boss fights where its like figuring out a puzzle, or mindnumbing slug-fests where the odds are not stacked in your favor.

  12. Re:Still $300 on Xbox 360 for $300 · · Score: 4, Informative

Actually, unless you've been living under a rock for the past 6 months, the price of AAA PC games is up to $55 (depending on the publisher).

Half-Life 2 was (and still is) billed at $55. I think Doom3 was the same at launch.

Also, Blizzard/Vivendi charged $35 for Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne. So not only are new games going for larger amounts, but expansions are trying to pull in more money.

  13. Re:How about SNES? on Xbox 360 for $300 · · Score: 1

Not at retail though. You're talking secondary market on eBay. And that's only for hard to find stuff since not many people are willing to part with their Final Fantasy 6, Chrono Trigger, etc. to the PSX fanboys.

I know for a fact I nabbed Secret of Mana + Manual + Hint Book for like $50. And last time I checked Super Metroid was going for a sane price: $30 or so.

What backgrounds? The battle ones or the field screen ones? Last time I checked, the backgrounds for the field screens (ie. dungeons and towns) were pre-rendered scenes. They're bitmaps, essentially. It doesn't take a whole lot of the CPU to throw up a bitmap to the screen.

Keep in mind that the game was originally being created for the N64 in the very early stages.

While I think it'd be cool for them to revamp the game with better graphics, I think it's a highly gratuitous move. I think it'd be better to see an update maybe in 3-5 years when a new age of FF Fanboys haven't even seen or heard of VII. Besides they're whoring out the game with 4 se/pre-quels. How much FF VII can we all handle?

Actually, Front Mission was ported to PSX (as Front Mission 1st) to coincide with the release of the 4th game in the series. However, 1st was never released stateside.

I think the idea nintendo might be trying to pull off with the revolution is that if you don't need all the features of the Revolution, make an N64 or SNES game if you want for their digital distribution (maybe for indie developers, homebrewers, or enthusiasts). It'd be an interesting to see if thats where things go eventually.

My original point is that it seems foolish for them to snag an exclusive agreement with Sony with the PS3 looming and the fact that the PS2 ought to be heading for "retirement" soon.

I'm actually currently readying myself for a go at Secret of Mana with some of my roomates. I wasn't knocking longevity of systems, it just seems like Namco could've had better options.
