    (2) Your beer-drinking skill can absolutely be measured.
    (3) Some people have a gift for beer-drinking.
    Most of all, beer-drinking is just fun !
    Same reasoning goes for sex, BTW.

    I think the key point is they're using Web Services, which happens to be XML-based. The author misuses the reference to XML. As a Web Services project, it looks quite cool.

    ...how much did they pay you to write this review ? I mean, it's probably a good book, but who needs a book on JavaScript ? There's plenty of info on the web; I can't think of _any_ book that's worth buying when it comes to mainstream software development. Dead tree format study guides are so 20th-century...

    Hell, maybe they wrote both the worm and the anti-worm. The bug was sufficiently documented so anybody could write a worm; it was just a matter of time. But if Microsoft wrote it first, they could 'force' sysadmins into installing their patches before someone wrote a more destructive virus. Why did the 'hacker' use windowsupdate.com, which made it _very_ easy for Microsoft to avoid a real DDoS just by removing that entry from DNS ? Why did the virus do practically no harm to the hijacked PC ? Heck, you were even given time to save your documents before the automatic reboot ! And if they want to switch from "software as a product" to "software as a service", they have to make the updates look valuable and worth paying for. In the end, I believe the worm was a good thing for Microsoft given the damage that could have been done. The end-user has learned a lesson that "Windows isn't perfect, but if I install the updates ...".

    Unfortunately, hating them isn't going help. On the contrary, that's probably what they want: to cause irritation by frustration thereby weakening the overall Linux enthusiasm and credibility. All this debating on SCO vs Linux is exactly what they want. IMHO, pro-Linux websites should never even post such news.

    I don't get it. What's the point in calling you a dummy if you're trying to sell a book. How did marketing people ever come up with that ? There's a For Dummies book for about every f**king aspect of life: beekeeping for dummies, prostate cancer for dummies, there's even a "Hypoglycemia for Dummies". Why do people buy books entitled "The Complete Idiot's Guide to ...". Stuff like Solaris, C++, ... are not for idiots. Such titles disgrace the art of programming. They'd better start showing some goddamn respect !
