Sorry that my post isn't as stylish as yours, but here's a question. If google scholar was better than the service, would an article claiming how great google scholar is have been written?

There is no real counter-balance to finding bias. Of course, if you want to take everything written as the article as truth just because they had a large revenue, go ahead.

Robbins Gentoo in April 2004 because it pretty much broke his ass. Not to mention who's to say that he won't be able to work on whatever open source project he pleases? From my experience with the Gentoo community, they probably wouldn't be up in arms if Robbins came back to do some work, I wouldn't be.

At 10 light years, 10^6/(10^16)^2 spells mighty slim odds for our radio station ever being noticed.

    Thanks for the cookie.

Your average rock radio station doesn't have the advantage of being in space, where there is mostly just thermal background radiation to contend with.

The real reason that seti probably won't work is because even an isolated signal from the edge of the solar system isn't too likely to be detected by someone many lightyears away.

20C would be 293 kelvin above absolute zero. And choosing 20C as a reference point is perfectly valid, and much more telling than choosing absolute zero in this case.

The reason being that if 20C is the ambient temperature, then 20C is the absolute coldest we could expect to achieve using forced air cooling. If the chip is at 20C (zero on this scale) then the cooling is perfect.

Choosing absolute zero is appropriate at times of course, like when trying to figure out how much kinetic energy something has.

    from the site:

The STIX Fonts have been designed to work with all web browsers, word processors, and other scholarly communications software, as well as all general purpose software.

The Fonts are based on the Unicode(TM) standard for character representation. By expressing all characters with their Unicode value, programs that you use will select the correct glyph for representation.

A character is a unique letter or symbol that is defined by its Unicode value.

Not all Unicode values are included in the STIX Fonts, but there is extensive coverage of Latin alphabets, Greek, and Cyrillic.

So based on the sound of it, this will work in different languages using unicode.
