What exactly are the negative parts of steam that you would hope to fix?

Is it really that abhorrent to require people to validate their game once? Are there other restrictions I'm not aware of? I certainly haven't run across any of them.

See how much you love Steam when they decide people shouldn't play Half Life 2 or it's addons anymore, because it'll cut into the market for Half Life 3.

Yeah, I mean, I wish valve still validate keys so I could play the original half-life on the internet, damn those bastards for cutting me off! Oh wait, no no, that never happened.

Inexplicable! They surely have just forgotten, I'm sure they will do just what you say when HL3 comes out.

So, http based delivery doesn't count? Look at UT2k4 and the ECE expansion installer released to the public.
I don't have UT2k4, but I took a look at what this pack has to offer. It looks like it's just a bonus pack with 4 maps and some new vehicles and stuff, not a mission pack that they're selling. I think the parent meant the only direct-to-consumer game delivery service where you actually pay for the games.
    Is that a good thing?
I think it is, I'd rather play with the latest updates to my game than an antiquated version. Having steam do the downloading and installing for me is much appreciated.
We didn't choose it. Steam was forced on whoever bought HL2. That's not called acceptance.
Last I checked, no one is forcing anyone to buy HL2. From the point of view of someone buying the boxed version and having to install steam to validate the game, is this really much different than the game having an internal validation technique like UT2k4 or quake 3 or umpteen other games with this? You only need to run steam when you want to play the game, if you're not connected to the internet you can still run the singleplayer game offline mode. I admin Steam's execution thus far hasn't been perfect, there were plenty of complaints going around when the game first came out, but lately I haven't heard of people having many problems.
There are much less intrusive ways to release update packs and expansions than through Steam.
I'm sure you will still be able to buy the pack at a store, or over the internet at a store if you please. Steam is a good idea in my opinion, it removes the needless step of giving oodles of money to a publisher who has no part in game development, and gives that money to the content producer. Is this bad? I don't see how.

What you said would be valid if quantum mechanics corresponded to general relativity, but it hasn't been proven explicitly. Their formalisms simply don't cooperate (string theory get's around this, but has no physical evidence to suggest it is true). And neither has a very well understood interpretation.

    Two popular contrary arguments.
    1. Ehrenfest's Theory, which doesn't show true correspondance.
    2. letting h->0, which produces indeterminate forms, and is imo useless.

If you'd like to give it a shot you have some options. You can pop out the keys and rearrange them pretty easily on the keyboards I've tried it on. It really only takes a day or two before you know where most everything is, so you won't need to look down all the time. Those couple of days are really hard I admit, but it's gets easy in a hurry.

After that I recommend you switch all the keys back to normal and refer to a printout of the layout. This way you can keep your fingers in the natural typing position while you search for a key. This prevents any cheating by using a hunt and peck method, it actually reinforces the muscle memorization.

After a day or two of using the printout, you should probably be good to go without and helpers.

Surprisingly, I didn't lose any accuracy when using QWERTY. Did lose a fair amount of speed though.

String theory has not failed any tests, so it has not been proven wrong yet. So it is a theory.

It basically is mathematical way to tie together quantum field theory (quantum mechanics, eletromagnetism, more) and general relativity. String theory postulates that point particles aren't zero dimensional points, but one dimensional strings.

However, string theory's postulate is not testable right now, and it looks like it may never be, so it is generally not the current accepted unified theory, there are no accepted theories at the moment.

No kidding, I said that the xbox controller gives up accuracy for an easier time learning. Thank you for reading.

IMHO that entire logic is short sighted. PCs are pretty easy to game with and are only getting easier.

I've been gaming on both pc's and consoles for over 10 years, both have progressively gotten easier for people to get into. The rate of good games coming for the PC has gone way down, while the opposite is true of consoles. I don't see how my conclusion is short sighted, better games with better design and a better experience on the console has made me choose it over the pc.
  17. Re:Why I dislike Halo (and all modern console game on Halo 2 Goes Gold · · Score: 2, Insightful

What you're failing to see, is that console games can be custom tailored to the respective game pad. The halo controls suit the xbox controller perfectly, there are exactly as many functions as their are buttons by design. Extreme customization isn't really required, since every function is mapped somewhere logical. But, you can remap the buttons if you wish.

This makes it easy for someone who hasn't played to just jump right in. The draw back is poor aim.

    Other plusses for consoles:
-cheap hardware, don't have to upgrade regularly.
-no fooling around setting up games for you and 3 buddies.
-little fooling around for setting up games for you and 4+ of your buddies.

For these reasons and more(games etc),I've almost entirely ditched my pc for gaming purposes and moved to the xbox.
