  2. Re:Quake, still my fav. on Doom III Officially Announced · · Score: 3, Insightful

Exactly, and i think the problem is making things more realistic. people don't want real, they want fast and smooth. It's all about reflexes, and i think Quake 1 shows it. Take a look back at streetfighter II and those types of games...even ms. pacman was a really fast game. They try to make it too realistic. the theory of running around shooting dumb guns and doing rocket jumps is all a falsehood anyway.

The game should be quick and engaging. What makes the new engines suck is the level of detail that was implemented at the cost of making everyhing slower. i want speed, pretty always comes second.

The other guy who must like taco a lot doesn't want to see it. However, you state that your post is "For the lazy:" and i'm lazy so i'll just pretend you really got him...

perfect, then maybe they wouldn't have killed off possibly the _best_ villian of all time after giving him 3 lines and about 3 minutes of screen. On the other hand, if jar jar wasn't there, i'm sure qui gon would have raised his hand and said "oh don't worry, the force will take care of everything". Then he would look like he was bored and falling asleep as they narrowly avoided danger and defeated the entire trade federation.

  5. Re:Accepting credit cards on Slashdot Subscription Update · · Score: 4, Informative

First i think you mean some sort of check card, right? a debit card usually requires a pin number entered. (ie-> going to the grocery store or an ATM machine) Secondly, i think a credit card is more appropriate for online transactions because once those bastards get their little mitts into your account, the money is gone. Using a line of credit to make the purchases, i think you have a bit more security against fraud, as the ccard companies will back your purchase, and fight for your case should something arise. Either way, do you _really_ want mr. taco to have your special 16 digits in some file somewhere? you know how those people are!

There is a new version of xquake that allows you to set a variable fastquit. a simple config like:

  11. Re:LOTR won Best Film & Best Director... on LoTR Takes 4 Oscars · · Score: 3, Interesting

It's all politics. Ron Howard is why LOTR didn't win. I honestly believe it has nothing to do with the film itself. Everything now a days is run by politics, and this is just more of the same. What's interesting is that people were shocked, as if they didn't see it coming.

I don't know why they'd include WINE in a distro, but i can see why WINE is a nice piece of software. I agree there are many native linux apps that you get free, but for that _one_ single stupid exe that you don't, that's when you can use WINE. jezzball.exe or something, i dunno. I personally don't like bloated distros, but i can see how winders people might like the convienence when something is included.

  16. Re:Sunblade line is very poor on Sun's New Workstations and Graphics Cards · · Score: 2, Insightful

You can not compare the PC based sunblade 100 with the blade 2k (or even the sunblade 1000). The sunblade 100 is a cheap pc104 box, the 2000 is an extremely high end machine, more comparable to the high-end Ultra's. The sunblade 100's are extremely low end sun's and are GREAT for what they cost and what you get. The only thing i see the same besides the name is that they are both workstations.

If my blade 100 would stop crashing, i'd have some better things to say about it.

  25. survey size on College Students Are Buying More, Warez-ing Less · · Score: 1

the earlier survey was of 148 people, the later one of 700 people. That poorly justifies what anyone is pirating or buying. If you want more accurate figures, the survey should have been either

    a) of a much larger control group (the same control group used for each survey) or
    b) of a specific piece of software tracked.

If not, the numbers and conclusion are unimpressive to me, just interesting.
