  1. Add that to your resume on Implant a Chip in Your Head · · Score: 5, Insightful

My only real question in all of this is where is it headed?(mind the pun there) Are all of us tech geeks going to be required to be able to "jack" into the computer systems we administrate in the near future? Will programmers start designing software that allows us to see the layout of our network graphicly in our heads as we sit semi-concious in chairs? Maybe not, but it is a possibilty.

My curiousity is when will this sort of thing become competitve enough that it will start to be asked for on job applications? When will it get to the point that it is no longer an option but a requirement in order to administer large networks?

This sort of thing is straight out of movies, like Johny Mnemonic even from role playing games like Shadowrun.

If this sort of thing comes to fruition would you have a chip installed in your head?

    I know I would.

But I don't know many others that would comprimise their bodies for a career. Would you?

  11. Sure it is.... on Tech Jobs Projected to Double by 2010 · · Score: 1

    I seriuosly doubt that claim.

The largest problem I forsee is to many kids getting into this field simply because they are being told by there colleges that it is easy money, easy to get a job, and easy way to hot cars and big houses.

There are entirely way to many people out there getting into this field. Everywhere I look there are 1 year programs that are churning out thousands of people yearly into a market that doesn't have room for that growth. In my town alone I can think of about 6-7 institutions that trun out "qualified" IT people yearly. Programers, Net Admins, Web Developers, the list goes on and on.

These people flood the market and make the jobs more and more scarce. The number of jobs isn't going to double. The number of people that want the jobs is going to more than triple.

Seriously. I don't know anyone who's kid isn't "going into computers".

it's a scarey world we live in.

The only solace I can find in all of this is that the majority of these kids don't even know what linux is. They don't know a server from a workstation. And they don't know C from java. They know enough to fake it. And it is this incompetence that will continue to make me look better and keep me employed...I hope...;)

    I HATE HONDA CIVIC DRIVERS!!!

90% of them drive like a$$holes. They will cut you off. They do not check blind spots. They Tail gate. They all asume they are the most powerful thing on the road.

The sad fact with these people is that their car is no better than anyone elses. I drive a 1996 Dodge Neon(please hold your laughter) becuase of these moron's folger's can mufflers they lack the horsepower to take me off the line(even if they do edge their enitre car into the intersection). I can blow away civics any day of the week.

mostly these guys just irritate me. It wouldn't bother me so much if they didn't drive like complete dicks when on the road. Any time I see these guys I instantly go into super defensive driving mode. I constantly watch them because I know that the guy is going to cut me off or cut someone else off.

My point is anyone can drive like an ass. You don't need a monstrous muffler to do it. And purchasing a civic with a huge muffler does not give you a license to drive like that. It's not that you're faster than everyone else and hence are able to drive faster and manouver better. It's that you're driving like an ass and other people don't drive like that because you risk your life and the lives of others when you do that.

and one other thing...BLINKERS PEOPLE! Firstly, Use them. Secondly, don't change their colors to blue or pink or whatever. Those are set colors. It is illegal to change them I have met people who have been fined for having them different colors. In fact many of the after market parts actually list on the packaging. "FOR SHOW USE ONLY" or "NOT STREET LEGAL". Heed these warning you will get fined. And it'll be me laughing at you when you do.

I switched over recently. At least I switched my servers at work. (Can't really switch at home the gf would beat me with a stick!) It wasn't an easy task. Before now I had only haphazardly used Linux here and there and knew enough of the commands to get by. It's hard to learn new things especially new OS's getting my samba working and getting IP Tables to act the way I want was a hell of alot harder than simply turning on file sharing and installing some firewall software.

I think for the majority of the users it's a case of the roadblock of pride. It's easier to use what you are used to then it is to ask for help all the time.

Most of us are tech savvy enough to not ask for help with our computers at all. In fact for the most part we hate people asking us for help. I mean, how many users have you wanted to slap? It's hard to take that large step backward and put yourself into a situation where you know very little and in many cases have to ask for help.

I've quickly picked up the linux stuff now and feel I am competent with it. It's a good solid OS and it doesn't die like my NT box did..
