Based on slackware, optimized for older hardware, and there's also a SOHO edition with KDE (standard edition has IceWM or Fluxbox, but SOHO is heavier...).
Guess what, jackass. Why should I not deserve a marginally higher paycheck writing (entertainment) software than someone managing teenagers at Burger King? (Which boils down to EA's work environment anyways.)
Uh, way to completely miss my point there, chief. I'm opposed to mandatory unpaid overtime, which is why I work in a place that doesn't require it very often.
This mindset infuriates me. Apparently you have to work for less than minimum wage nowadays to be considered dedicated. What a big stinking pile of horseshit.
I agree... which is why I write business software. Hm. Guess I'm not a jackass, after all.
Burger King does indeed pay store managers benefits. Most fast food companies do. Some, in fact, even offer 401k benefits.
Still, working in fast food sucked, and I'm glad I graduated and don't do it anymore (10 years later...).
Solving new and interesting problems constantly. It's like getting paid to solve chess puzzles, including the euphoria of finally producing the solution.
Generally, that's any programming job, which is what is so great about the field.
I live in Texas, I have good friends that work for a major game company in the area. They're LUCKY if they only work 70 hours a week, and they make HALF of what I do, and I only work 40 hours a week.
Why do they do it? Because they love it.
But from a purely financial standpoint, if you're just in it for the money, there is a line where you'll make more money managing teenagers at a fast food place.
Assuming 80 hour work weeks, working 50 weeks out of the year, 60K works out to:
$15 bucks an hour.
Assuming you work 80 hours a week, and you get time-and-a-half overtime, you only need to make $12 an hour. If you're competent, you can make more than $12 an hour managing a Burger King.
For further comparison: Most contractors are able to bill for over $40 an hour, in many cases more than this.
Bottom line is this: If you're working mandatory overtime, there's a line where it'd be better to go sling burgers.
So, what do these naysayers think would constitute speciation?
How about the inability to sexually reproduce with the original species? A human with microencephaly can still sexually reproduce with another human that does not have this disorder.
However, to call it a new species seems extremely short sighted.
From TFA: A vocal scientific minority insists the Hobbit specimens do not represent a new species at all. They believe the specimens are nothing more than the bones of modern humans that suffered from microencephaly, a broadly defined genetic disorder that results in small brain size and other defects.
And, at least two groups of opponents have submitted their own studies to other leading scientific journals refuting the Flores work.
"This paper doesn't clinch it. I feel strongly that people are glossing over the problems with this interpretation," said Robert Martin, a biological anthropologist and provost of the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago.
And, to my knowledge it is only achieved when applications are able to keep a good part of their program on the processors cache, not the main system memory.
Exactly, which is why P4 Xeons still out perform the AMD Opteron for some memory intensive tasks - faster clock rate -> faster cache speed.
The big problem with the P4 architecture is how often the CPU is starved for data, however, something that AMD Opterons (especially the dual core) are able to overcome.
If memory was the limitation and not CPU power, then throwing a ton of memory in a box is much cheaper than throwing CPUs and memory in multiple boxes.
I think you're confusing cache memory with system RAM here. If an algorithm is memory bound adding more RAM isn't going to help (unless you're preventing disk swap) because you're still waiting on the CPU to get more data from RAM.
Doubling the amount of CPU cache, on the other hand, will make a significant difference.
So what is your stance on the destruction of unused embryos at fertility clinics?
Completely against, since I personally believe life begins at conception. Therefore, destruction of these embryos constitutes the destruction of human life.
Why hasn't there been as vocal outcry from Christians regarding that as there has been for stem cells from embryos?
I don't think enough Christians really understand what's happening at fertility clinics. More and more people are starting to notice, however, and will soon speak up against it.
Before anyone starts flaming Christians or George W. Bush - Christians are not opposed to stem cell research - only the source of stem cells being aborted humans. We have no problem with stem cell research when the stem cells come from umbilical cords or adult cadavers.
Please keep that in mind before you start bitching about us Christians being anti-science.
Amen. Keeping the cord to keep my
Still, this is a good development - for non-gamers, it's good enough. Plus, this will provide competetition to said DSL and cable companies, which keeps prices low.
While possibly of limited use, this does seem to be a unique feature. Now, whether Microsoft (or anyone) should be allowed to patent such thing... I don't know.
No, because I (personally) can implement this in no fewer than 5 seperate programming languages, and literally thousands of different ways. This patent is bullshit. If they want to copyright their implementation of this, that's fine. But a patent? No.
For example, let's say I wrote a perl script that converted a text document to HTML. If I wrapped numbers and words believed to be numbers in bold tags, technically I'd be violating this patent.
This will be introduced as optional and quickly become as voluntary as credit cards, drivers licenses, and cell phones. Sure, you can opt-out of these, but you will never be accepted at a job that requires them.
Now where have I heard that before?
"He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name. This calls for wisdom. If anyone has insight, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is man's number. His number is 666" (Rev. 13:16-18).
WILSON: That's not anything that I can talk about.
Because he knew he just blew it by admitting his wife wasn't covert, and if he said anything more, he'd show he's nothing more than a partisan hack who only got sent to Niger by his wife so she could get rid if him for a few days.
(And here I will note that unlike yourself, I have not descended into name calling or profanity.)
FWIW, I personally think that someone should go to jail for the Plame incident. However, using that once incident to justify ditching anonymous sources in general is absolutely crazy.
See the link in my sig - it's a transcript, where Joe Wilson admits that Plame was not covert when the story broke. Therefore, no crime was committed, therefore, jailed reporter is just being an idiot by not coughing up the source.
People still play Wizard of Wor? Cool! ;)
And that's not a Dragon Quest/Warrior game - that was Final Fantasy!
The better analogy would have been fighting Wyverns in a swamp while carrying Princess Gwaelin back to King Lorik...

Minimum Requirements: 125 MB Hard Drive, 16 MB RAM.
Oh, what? It's BOINC?
Fine. He was BOINCing aliens.
I'm sure you already figured that out though.
They already did, it's called the Mac Mini. You can run Yellow Dog Linux, Slackintosh, an several other distros on it right now.
And technically, the Opteron is the x86-64 architecture.

Sierra On-Line has prior art, as well: Phantasmagoria II had a main character who hallucinated and saw the walls bleed as he descended into madness.
Further proof software patents are stupid.
