Then why the hell on the right hand side is there amazon.com advertisements. Kinda seems oxymoronish IMHO. Why push product for the people you are trying to go against. Is this the new marketing. I know its not the siteowners fault but its ironic. Its like a Anti-Tobacco ad then seeing advertisement links for "Buy Marlboro packs cheap here!"

I totally Agree with you. I own my company and I cant tell u how many thousands of Dollars I have owed to me. I spend about 40% of my time doing collections. At this point I'm gonna have to take a loss and either write it off or pay some company to do the collection for me. In my last job I was pretty miserable. It was a dream job for awhile then the company changed their focus. I was asked to leave and happily did. Mind u this was 5 days before I signed on my new house... Thinking I would be there forever. I now know no such things exist. If you ask me. You are better of staying w/ a company even if you are salaried and never see a bonus or pay increase. At least You can sit there and budget out your life. When you dont get paid U cant pay your bills and live. Mind if you are single its alot easier. But once u are married and have kids or not it becomes a major stress on your relationship.. Again I know I just had a fight tonite again w/ my wife regarding my income. Its a horrible feeling and all it does is belittle your feelings even more. So my two cents. Screw contracting. Its sad to say that at times my Xbox Mod customers tend to pay up . Even indivdual little customers who are not rich are honest enough to pass me whatever I ask them.

Back in 1999 I worked in Silicon Valley. EDS who ran some lotus servers at where I worked charged .25 an email. So a Mass mailing about friday company bowling costed $80. I thought that was insane. So I built my own server on a HP-UX box. Saved the company over $1200 a month especially using some fancy aliasing and integrating it into corporate structure. Now I thought 25 cents was INSANE for email. Now this $2k deal is LUDICROUS.. I would almost tend to think some right wing liberal republican movement is behind this (and I am a registered republican). This will never fly, anyone who backs this is insane and for the ones that do. Its all about profit.. Nothing else. It just allows the more elite to send email to each other which the little guys suffer. Dam I feel like a mom and pop game shop watching a bestbuy being built across the street .. hmph :/

I was hired to a company in October 1999 Pre-y2k. I was also the SOLE IT person for the company. We have about 11 offices spread throughout the state. The network I walked into was in massive shambles. I mean predominantely terminal computers. All windows boxes which well werent standardized having public IPs on the internet. Their mainstay server a SCO box which also was public on the internet. All sessions to the SCO box were in TELNET mode. (Anyone with SSH experience on SCO plZ PLZ PLZ point me out to a site so i can implement SSH on SCO). The actual wiring to the network was cat3. Their method of email system was HOTMAIL.COM. I mean I can literally go on for days or give a massive lecture on how I cleaned up the place. As I cleaned up the place people kept asking me if we can do certain things. I told them many times "No". I made it my policy to not lie to them. If it was possible I did it. If it wasnt I would explain why. I guess you just have to explain NO and why no. I know it may make you mr Unpopular with mgmt or the end-user but Just do it. I stuck to my guns. Now many years later now matter how horrible things have gotten I stuck to it. Now I have a nice tidy network (With exception to the SCO box). We have a real network w/ a standardization for doing things and how my people do their computing. Its almost like working at a real company again. They told me NO many times over but I stuck with it and now they rarely tell me no. But to reiterate.. If you have to say no just explain as to why. I know many people hate saying no and constantly live in fear of losing their jobs. I am one of them myself. Make sure that someone in mgmt can back you up. If you cant say no w/o getting backed up then maybe that might not be the right environment for you. Or you can just drag it out collect a paycheck until something else comes up. I am not sure what your environment is like.. But learn to communicate. If no one talks, no one knows whats going on and if people dont know why you said "No" then its gonna create nothing more than chaos. /end rant
