    All of that doesn't change the fact that the US has propped up ruthless dictators all over the world. They used many excuses, one of which was fighting communism.

    However, is that all it takes? The end justifies the means? As long as communism doesn't spread who cares what happens to the people of these countries, because life under a brutal dictator must be better than life under communism.

    The life we live in america is a privliged one, built on the death, torture and rape of the countries we exploited.

    some times it sickens me to be american.

    It's not a question about if they are better off now than before. It's that we were giving money and weapons to Saddam then, and we didn't really care that he was killing people. Now we need a easy deamon, and the fact that he was killing people suddenly matters.

    You're missing the point. The article was about ROMANTICS vs ENLIGHTENMENT.

    He was viewing the books though that lens. Ignore the story for a moment and examine the metadata of the story.

    If you read the article you'd get that, and you'd know that he did read "The Sylmarillion".

    I completely agree.

    Why should science be blocked by some foolish religious people. If they don't like it, then they don't have to use the life saving discoveries. Hopefully they will all die, and the world can live on better without them.

    But why is that ? I'd argue that the large companies should care more for their employees. So what if they make only 9 billon instead of 10 billion in net profit. If their employees are happy, then every one is happy. Corperate America's habit of squeezing every last bit of work for the very least pay makes for a bunch of people who hate their lives.

    I'm glad I work for a company who's first obligation is to their customers, and next to their employees. As long as we are profitable, we are not focused $.
