    UNIX/Windows NT/OS X - if a program needs more memory, the system gives it more memory; if there is no more memory to give, the program is terminated.

    Terminated or cached out into virtual memory. Hell, Windows and MacOS both had virtual memory. Might not have been executed as well as it is today, but it was there...

    Your solution would allow some form of dual booting or allow for running vista in a virtual machine. That is not the point we're discussing though.

    The mention of reverse engineering is in reference to something along the lines of WINE being used to run Vista programs in OSX.

    I think what the GP was saying was that while:
    4 x 1.7 = 6.8
    is true,
    4 x 1.7GHz != 6.8GHz

    In other words a system with four processors running at 1.7GHz aren't going to deliver 6.8GHz of processing ability.

    C'mon and listen to yourself. I'm a mac fan/user since the mac II, and I can honestly say that while it's cool that they've finally embraced the two button mouse (it is two buttons, even if they're hidden) this is hardly an innovation.

    This is a way for them to add two button clicks for the x86 crowd without having to actually admit that sticking to a one button design for this long was silly.

    My logitech mx500 has 8 or so buttons and I use them all. Granted some aren't used daily, but they're there when I want / need them.

    Rockstar did not publish any hacks or patches to open up the sex game. Game modders poking around in the code found it and released a patch for unlocking it.

    and I think I meant bottom-right (sheesh preview). Then again, now that I think about it, you're correct if you're refering to the resize button. I think that button is fine, but the thing that bugs me is that the manual resize is only on the bottom right. I think it should be in all corners.

    was one of the greatest and most frustrating NES titles.

    I still wish Capcom had done some better sequels. The GB versions were neat, but never quite as cool as the original.

    All that aside, how cool would it be to swim on another planet, even if in a lake of methane...

    According to a quick googling "Liquid Natural Gas (Liquid Methane) is made by cooling natural gas to a temperature of minus 260 degrees F" so I think swimming in a lake of methane would be quite literally cool.

    Of course I do realize you didn't mean a person wearing a speedo jumping into the methane lake, but the mental image inspired my inner (and outer) geek.

    True, but (and feel free to correct me if I'm way off), but much like the reported specs for the Next Xbox, the PS3 specs could be reported in terms of number of cores and speed of each.

    I know that it will never be an apples to apples comparison, but it can give us an idea of what is under the hood comparatively speaking....
