Is it just me, or does the "Obama - Biden" ticket sound alot like "Osama BinLaden"? I have to question Obama's choice. It seems like that last thing he would want is the names on his ticket invoking images of the islamic terrorist that allegedly masterminded the twin towers attacks...
Jessica Alba was not cast for her acting ability obviously. Given what it was meant to be, I don't think the show was that bad. Of course given this new technological advancement...the show's plot would be pretty much busted now anyway.
Yes, but Nanosolar is currently only shipping to utilities and their website makes no mention that I could find about making their products available outside their tightly wrapped "strategic partnerships". While this could lead to some patent mess, I'm glad that someone else figured out the process and is making them outside this possibly evil corporate monopoly.
My spam rate has also gone down in the past week or so. Not as much as the original post, but about the same as the parent. Something has obviously changed. Taking a quick look at my spam box, it looks like most of the usual content is still there. Maybe the spammers have just taken up a "less is more" attitude?
Kindof ironic. Earlier this morning I got an e-mail from our IS people outlining the software policy of the school district (I'm currently working for a large school district).
IE7 was found to not have any compatibility issues with current software used so that is allowed but not mandated. Office 2007 seems to work ok, so they will be rolling it out or the compatibility pack updates "soon". And Vista was found to be not compatible, of little usefulness, and generally undesirable. Officially it is to be avoided and the district will look forward to upgrading to Windows 7 when it becomes available.
What this means to us, is that if a new workstation or laptop is requested by a user or their supervisor, and the district cannot procure a machine with XP, the request will be denied. Vista will only be allowed if the user submits a justification of why they need it (IE, have to run some software in the classroom as part of the curriculum that only works with Vista) and that justification is approved by their supervisor and IS.
I buy and sell on Craigslist all the time. I have never had a problem but then I follow the rules clearly branded in bold letters on every response email you get:
How is the ICH7 and ICH9 controllers "Plain old"? Most everything in that list is for ESX server, the ESXi column is pretty empty. Also remember that having a compatible storage controller isn't the only issue. You also have to have bios that will work with the embedded hyper visor setup. Also of note is the big BOLD text at the top of that page explaining that soft raid is not supported so you will only be able to access individual disks on the ICH7 and 9 controllers, not an array...that will be a show stopper for anyone wanting to do anything serious with this.
Actually, I think we are a bit "smarter" then you think. Or else you are misinformed about how we use nuclear fuel. The "spent" fuel we store in our dumps is still highly radioactive and quite useful for powering stuff for years. The problem is that we have disallowed ourselves from further refining it to make it useful through the treaties meant to prevent the proliferation of nuclear weapons. I heard one researcher throw out figures that suggested we could run all the world's reactors for something like 300+ years on all the "waste" that is currently in dumps if we were allowed to recycle (refine it again).
Well, while your argument has some validity in some of it's points (especially in the area of using already proven and available options), one point is definitely wrong. SpaceX has a rocket with slightly higher payload than the Ares I scheduled to fly in 2010. Given that the design is simply a scale up of their existing design, that it is already under construction, and that their existing design will be sending a USAF sat up as well as some other interesting bits in a few days, it seems like they are on track to deliver.
Any way you look at it though, NASA is flat wasting years of time and $5Billion in cool hard cash developing the Ares I.
You beat me to the golden question. The question need not be asked though. They are all the same...the reason they are all the same is that they all took the same path to get where they are. When was the last time THE PEOPLE selected their leaders here? Pretty much all the officials on the Federal level are selected by suits that control the major parties, or someone who was selected by the suits. Republican vs Democrat is just posturing these days. They are all the same, have mostly the same goals, and get their strings pulled by people with the same agendas. The only candidate I have seen that the people really liked (he has his own issues too) is Ron Paul. I saw more Ron Paul signs then McCain signs (and still do even after the primaries) around here. But his party wouldn't allow him to see the light of day. Almost all the delegates were split between McCain, Romney and Huckabee. I have never even met a Romney or Huckabee supporter. Nobody around here liked them or voted for them (the vote totals for them amounted to 1% in my state). So where exactly did these delegates come from? To use an overused phrase... Its a trap!
Actually there are a couple useful tidbits in the article. For instance, WPA2 WILL be included in SP3 (FINALLY!). And there are some known issues that could be helpful for some users. Most importantly, most of the useless Vista features that people feared would be included...arent. Yay! I'm actually looking forward to SP3 again now.
I am on Comcast simply because a T1 is too expensive, wireless isn't available where I am, FIOS is not available where I am, and the only DSL available is a miserable 256K. OTOH, maybe this explains why I was having such weird networking issues trying to connect to my office VPN this weekend...
Whatever... When I was in Puerto Rico last year the tour guide was very proud to point out that the majority of prescription drugs sold in the US are made there. All the major players make their stuff there. The fact that Q/C broke down in a particular factory has nothing to do with the location. It's not like they purposely painted the pills with lead paint or anything.
So how is USB 3.0 going to work then? That uses optical for high bandwidth transmission. Should we be worried about our 2 year olds looking into the end of the USB 3 cable?
Can you imagine the scenario? The ship in waterworld is one of these instead of the Exxon Valdez? And the pirate guys are hoarding all the world's backed up information and financial records instead of the last of the pumped oil?
Beta 2 makes gmail almost look like a desktop app it's so fast. The first thing I did when I installed Beta 2 was check my email and my mouth literally dropped open. The memory useage and leak fixes have made a huge difference. Also, my firefox memory footprint used to be typically over 100,000K (as reported by windows), but now it's staying around 75,000K. Still not as memory efficient as some other browsers, but a 25%+ improvement is huge and much appreciated by me at least! Java stuff seem snappier, but also seems to use alot more CPU...probably need a bit more optimization there. Overall a massive improvement over any previous version in my humble opinion.
No, I mean millions. This isn't just about the cost of printing some new street signs. Just taking into account the salaries of public workers, lawyers, ect involved with the fiasco I'm sure the costs are running into the millions. But as another poster noted, the costs to businesses affected will also be large.
As a resident of the Portland area, I have to say all this street renaming non-sense is really getting on my nerves. It's well known that the only reason it's happening is that some local knotheads (AKA the mayor) wants to score some points with some special interest and/or ethnic groups...meanwhile totally pissing off everybody else in the general vicinity who rely on street names for basic things like oh say getting your mail and navigation. Literally millions in tax dollars and everyone's time is being totally wasted on this insanity while real problems like traffic congestion, storm damage, crime and such get shoved to the back burner.
If we aren't going to actually explore anything beyond our own "bubble", what is the point of NASA anyway? I can understand not wanting to spend public money on space exploration anymore...especially now that private sector spaceflight is ramping up. But it seems stupid to keep NASA around at all if they eliminate the exploration. I guess they just want to turn it into a bureaucracy purely to regulate the private sector. I say if we are going to spend the money, at least make it worth while and keep Mars as a goal.
I personally really liked the ghostbusters movies. But if those guys are getting back together to do something, I would much rather see a third movie then a dumb video game. I doubt there is anything they can do in a video game related to the ghostbusters theme that would be remotely interesting to me. The point is to be campy and funny. The campyness I'm sure will translate a little too well to the game while the humor will probably be lost.
To use a phrase from the financial market world: "Past performance does not necessarily indicate future results." It does not really matter how many disks of each format happen to be floating around out there right now. When DVD first came out there were a lot more laserdisks out there then DVDs for a while. But it quickly became obvious that laserdisk was going extinct quickly. I see the same thing starting to happen with blueray. Blueray got an early sales lead, but HD-DVD is setup to win the race.
Facts: HD-DVD has blue ray by the balls when it comes to price. The price gap is just sad. Given that, HD-DVD is attracting more "casual" buyers now while blue-ray sales will stagnate as only the higher salaried people can afford blue-ray. Studios are starting to favor HD-DVD. In past months, most "release to video stores" trailers I saw mentioned the film being available on Blueray as well as traditional DVD with a few offering HD-DVD as well. As of about 3 weeks ago, the blue-ray references have dropped off sharply and now almost every movie I see an ad for is mentioning HD-DVD.
I think the opportunity still exists for Sony to fight it...but they would have to do something drastic like mark down all the blue-ray players to $200 or mark down all the movies to $10. Of course the technology is too expensive (we knew that before), so they can't do that without bleeding cash like there is no tomorrow. The battle is pretty much lost Sony, give it up and move on to something else...and this time be a tad more innovative and make something that everybody and their brother can't emulate for lower cost.
Is it just me, or does the "Obama - Biden" ticket sound alot like "Osama BinLaden"? I have to question Obama's choice. It seems like that last thing he would want is the names on his ticket invoking images of the islamic terrorist that allegedly masterminded the twin towers attacks...

:(
I just got a Foxconn board last week and have been trying to install Trixbox on it. No wonder I was having so many problems. Time to RMA...

A card begging him to find someone more capable to run the company then Balmer. Someone who cares about software and customers.

ok, never mind...the plot doesn't get any better.
He needs that much RAM because he is using Vista. If he used XP 64bit edition he wouldn't need as much. My $.02

Ever hear the term "flash in the pan"? 'nuff said.
