Here's my take. Own both.
Buy a Toshiba HD-DVD player at Wal-Mart for $100 and a PS3 for $400. You get both and a game system for less that half the price of a Hybrid player (or cheaper than a PS3 last year).
I have both. Yes, I do opt for Blu-Ray if I have a choice of both for a film because I think Sony can't walk away that easily on this one.
Why do you have to be at war? Why choose a side?
Enjoy Transformers, Batman Begins and the Spider-Man Box Set right now in HD. Let the fan boys fritter their time away pissing and moaning about which format is is going to win. You'll be watching HD movies and not caring like me.
Also, a few of the Imperial officers / techs smoked a bit more when short in the original Star Wars. I remember that because I thought that was really cool when I was a kid.
I really don't understand this mentality. If you enjoyed yourself...how was it a waste of time? But, seriously, you should do all of the things you need to do before you grab that controller (or mouse in your case).
What I really want to know is how do you hold onto your GF when your clothes are stinky?
Are you kidding me? If Sony muffs up this launch, they won't have anything profitable until "Spider-man 3" comes out in 2007 (since Columbia pictures is the only other thing that's making them money).
PS2 game prices are already falling like a rock. Any more delays and they're in BIG trouble
It is a well known fact that people aren't so willing to buy new stuff right after (about 2 months) Christmas? High credit card bills (and high energy bills) dominate most people's thought at this time.
Wow. That was possibly the biggest pile poo I've seen yet on slashdot.
PS3 is lucky if it's out before Christmas 2006. And, we'll see retreaded games like Tekken 69 and Twisted Metal : Masturbation.
Sony is stronger than ever with even more...
Whaaaa? Sony is bleeding money like crazy. PlayStation and Columbia Pictures are the only commodities they own that are profitable. If the PS3 fails (which it's exuberant price tag could make happen), Sony is done for. Pick up a newspaper now and then.
This is mostly GameStop's fault. I put in a $50 pre-order in at FYE 2 weeks before Christmas and my $600 bundle arrived on Dec 24th.
GameStop has been giving web orders of their utimate bundles priorty over in-store pre-orders of just the console. Nothing but pure greed on their part is the cause of their backlog.
Anyway, who's stupid enough to give anyone full payment for something months in advance? I know some people want one bad, but where is the common sense? I guess that's why it's called "bait and switch."
I mean, we're the hottest product there was at Christmas this year.
Mr. Gates, the hottest product this holiday season was the iPod with 14 million units sold. Oh, sorry about that. That's one of the those heartburn words, sort of like "Google" or "Linux".
1. slap the next speaker who said software is "magical." 2. kick the next speaker who used the "2 ft. vs. 10 ft." analogy. 3. kill the demoer for Vista who kept telling us that we'll finally be able to control our PCs. 4. throw every Xbox 360 controller ever made at Steve Ballmer.
Well, when you learn to read (and comprehend), then you can reply to my comments...
I was expressing the thought that maybe Philadelphia's limited governmental resources would be better directed at problems that truely affect the community.
The cancer comment only shows your callousness.

The approximately 380 murders that have occurred in Philadelphia in 2005.
We have more murders here "per capita" than New York City. I can stand the "little sony dudes" murals if there wasn't a person being killed by gunfire every day in the streets.
Whaaa? You said you work in sales and marketing? Then, how about this...
Microsoft makes money on these (in order of highest profit):
1. XBox Live Marketplace point cards 2. XBox Live Gold subscrptions 3. Acessories like extra controllers, Wi-Fi adapaters, and faceplates 4. Games
In order to use these items. YOU MUST HAVE AN XBOX 360!
During the holidays, people are the most willing to splurge on the aformentioned extras. Retailers want to move these items NOW! They won't move after Christmas and retailers will be stuck with unsold product (and not ordering more from the MS mothership). No X-Mas Xbox, no Xbox accessories sold. It's that simple.
It makes no sense to cook-up a shortage. A shortage prevents you from selling the extra items that really make the profits. Its the old "razor" vs. "blades" analogy. Or, the "printer" vs. the "ink cartridges" for us techie people.
I personally think the "shortage" resulted from MS busting butt to get out of the starting blocks before Sony. Because, once the PS3 lands, MS will have to almost give the 360 away to gain marketshare. Pre-mature release is the cause of the shortage, nothing more.
I don't think M$ has too much to worry about. In fact, I would be really surprised if PS3 makes it out of the gate in the USA by spring time. There has been little word from Sony and developers (IGNs PS3 site has been pretty stale lately).
I think CES will go like this...
1. Sony has playable demos for the PS3 2. Sony will tout all of the great features of the PS3. 3. PS3 will be AMAZING and wow everyone. 4. PS3 will come in around $400 (I think $500 will be too much), the feature set will be trimmed to get there. Blu-Ray will remain. 5. Sony announces release in Japan for spring, summer for the USA, fall for Europe.
I know these are guesses, but let's see how close I can come...

Liberty City could also be a good double for Philly.
Hey, 90 days in 2007 and already 100+ murders. Don't count the "City of Brotherly Love" out...
Yes..

Parallels
1. Grand Theft X-Wing
2. The Sims : Jedi Edition
3. Super Vader Kart

Sure MS got that many downloads. A lot of them were free. Like movie trailers, game demos, and tutorials on how to use the XBox 360.
I just think it's sad that MS keeps speweing out this FUD because they have no chance of catching up to the iPod.
Sony is not in any trouble.

The grass has riz. I wonder where the PS3s is?
Sony about to destroy of one the two still profitable arms of it's company with continued lies, false promises and overpricing.

Yes, the VGA cable allows up to 1360 X 768 (which, if you check, is the max resoultion of most LCD and plasma TVS on the market in the USA right now).
Sorry about the delayed response.

Little late for "God of War." Most of us have finished that and have moved on...
Better yet...
Get a VGA cable and put it on an HD set. My 19" HD TV runs DOA4 at 1360x768. All I have to say is: SWEEEEET!
Ugrading to an XBox 360 on a standard TV is really pointless.

I would love to know where some of you guys /gals live (please reply).
Here in Philadelphia, PA, there are none to be found. I wonder if blue vs. red is actually "blue vs. red states"?
