isnt the unemployment rate calculated by those people who are recieving unemployment checks? they cut the length you can recieve those checks recently, down to something like 4 or 6 months. i know this because my father was laid off from his company, and spent about a year finding a new job. the last 6 months of that were without unemployment checks. cant say he was lazy about it either, as hes the most hardworking personi know of. went in to dozens of interviews, tried everything possible to get his unemployment extended. my point im asking, though, is are those numbers skewed now because they essentially cut those people who can recieve unemployment in half? ill have to look on the internet further, but i swear i saw that somewhere.
so, video games contribute nothing to society? as opposed to movies, music, pictures, entertainment, art? personally, i wouldnt want to live in a world where my only motivation factor is money; i enjoy other things in life.
hotpop.com still offers free POP3 email, last i checked. i signed up for them years ago, and i still get their email for free. theyve probably sold my email address to countless companies, but at least they still hold true to their word.
microsoft could eaisly offer their own virus scan software, as opposed to having it "built in", and charge extra for it. id be happy, because i wouldnt have to mess around with windows to disable it, and the virusscan companies would be happy because it wouldnt be free. besides that, i prefer my software to be ran by my OS, not to be integrated directly into it.
of course, this is microsoft. expect to see ads for "the new Windows, now with built in AntiVirus" as soon as they can work out the best way to handle the legal issues.

ive had the problem you speak of with sega genesis, sega master system, NES, SNES, game boy, game gear, and N64. dirt and dust get into the contacts. blowing on them helps clean it. its not the wisest of solutions, but it works, and most people just take the 1 in 50,000 chance of it causing bigger problems.
as for the karma, i still plan to get one. having to hit something every once in a while to get it to work again is still worth it to me, because no other player offers everything i want in a portable player.
"i'm lovin' it."
"just do it."
"takes a licking and keeps on ticking."
if any of these phrases bring a companies name to mind, and any ideas about that company, then youve been affected by advertising more than you think. its branding, and you dont have to interact with an ad to be affected by it. a big part of marketing is just letting people know a company exists, not making you buy a product then and there.:-P
you could fall down a flight of stairs and break your back, and slowly bleed to death from it because you cant move to get help. you could be working on a car and have it slip off the jack and pin you underneath it, and die of thirst if nobody found out in time. should you be monitored throughout your day as well? i know that the odds of the elderly falling victim to what you said are higher than you or me, but where do we draw the line? and, how would you feel if you were suddenly on the other side of that line? im not trying to disagree with you on this, just trying to show you the other side of the argument before its your time to be on that side.
from what i hear from friends working at UPS, the fact that youre working in a union really doesnt do much for the worker unless youre really high up in the company. most of them have compared it to FedEx as pretty much the same benefits and a little more pay, but the union fees eat that difference. but, ive never known anyone who stayed with the company long enough to move up due to their shitty promotion policy, so i could be very wrong about this.
just get a better firewall, one that lets you have more than just generic levels of control over your connections. i use Kerio Personal Firewall, and when im asked if i want the Windows Update installer to be able to connect to the internet, i create a rule for it to go through. nothin else gets in or out until after im done patching.:-P
i think he meant insurance against external forces, such as a planet-destroying meteroite or a sudden horrible virus epidemic. essentially, if we stay on earth forever, we *will* eventually die out as a species. now, whether leaving earth will prevent that is a totally different debate.
yeah, but you were poor for a while. whole markets are being taken away (i.e. manufacturing), and if youve been in them for years and years you have to start learning something else, and you might be pretty poor in the meantime.
i dont see what the big deal is about RFID tags. im sure someone is going to come out with a "RFID finder and deactavitor" wand that you can wave over any products you think might still be active. if you use any "loyality" cards, the stores know what you buy by your UPC codes they scan, anyways.
ah, i see. that wouldnt be a problem for me, because all my friends have broadband and i have some decent webspace i could just host the program on. unless the program were insanly big, then it might get annoying. thanks for the info on that.
the specs say it does have the external hard drive function already, though. this was the main thing holding me back from getting a karma, and now it says they have it. do you know the specifics on this situation?
you just posted on slashdot, and you posted about oral sex. i dont think its possible to count the number of slashdot guys who want to be your valentines day date right now.
i dont know about you, but if a girl gives me a blowjob for valentines day, even if shes given me hundreds of blowjobs in the past, i still love the blowjob. its not one of those things that gets boring for me.
every girl who ive seen play a Final Fantasy game for more than an hour has loved it. FFXI is probably the path to go here, since theres no player-killing, so your always on the same side, so to speak. combine this with ventrilo, so you can voice chat while you play, and youll have a damn lot of fun, while feeling like youre accomplishing something together.
one tip, though: have characters that you only play when you and your girlfriend are *together*, so you stay at pretty much the same levels. you would not believe how boring a good game can become when your friend is "letting you level" by bringing you to some place *they* feel is fun, and letting you get kills from a distance. ruined dungeon siege for me.
i have 88 different shortcuts that i use.:) add that to the fact that i have no icons on my desktop. all i did was add generic folders to my start menu (accessories, games, system tools, multimedia, etc.) in the main folder of the start menu (i.e. NOT in "Programs"), and move all my shortcuts into whatever category i feel it should go into. several shortcuts get placed into two groups (thunderbird falls under both "internet" and "communication"), and i can access any program by only going into one submenu. everything is very easy to find, easy enough so that whenever a friend uses my computer and asks how to open a program, i only have to tell them "check the start menu."
check out a screenshot of what i mean, since im not very clear at describing what i mean when im tired.

you eat fried chicken with a fork? or maybe skittles? must get odd looks.
my mistake. blame my bad basic math skills. :( i could always do calculus eaisly, id just mess up the easy math.
the average size for cities in this area of michigan is six miles by six miles. what are you comparing the size to?
i applaude you. :) it takes a big effort to avoid such things. i try to do the same. i was simply making a point, not necessarily one towards you.

one of the best signatures ive ever seen. i almost spit my beverage all over my damn monitor.
i agree. link, by the way.

"as a former pro-Counterstrike player" under what name and teams? just curious. i play a lot of CS. :-P
