I know that alot of Linux purists will think that this is horrible, but I really see no problem with it.
Actually this is just one more exammple of how extremely functional Linux can be compared to Windows.
It may not be for everyone, even I would much rather use KDE on X11 rather than XPde. But I would not fault someone for chosing to use it (or any other desktop or window manager).
In the end it all depends on what the user prefers to use. The more options, the better.
Quicktime work fine thru Wine, and even better thru Codeweavers Crossover Plugin which gve you quicktime in your web browsers too. I've been using it for well over a year now.
Sure it's an excellent utlity for watching, editing, and manipulating video, including Quicktime, in Linux. But I would also recommend Codeweavers Crossover plugin which will give you quicktime in your web browser (supports Konqueror, Mozilla/Netscape 'Gecko' variety browsersd, and Opera) and on your desktop.
It was a problem with your outdated distro. I wouldn't expect a copy of Windows 3.1 to know about newer video cards.
For the most part, most newer distros configure themselves quite fine with most major hardware.
It may seem trivial, but the idea of being able to load Linux on various devices ultimatly makes sense. Just recently on/. an article was posted about IBM considering Linux as a replacement to AIX.
Now just consider many different devices running various configurations of what is essentially the same core IO kernel.... imagine how easily it will be to connect Mainframes to PC's, PC's to iPod's, IPod's to your car's diagnostics computer, etc....
Yes, it may seem a bit quirky right now, but it's little steps like this which eventually add up to one large step which makes data become easier and easier to transfer and share from one place to another.
Can you rewrite the same movie with comically aging actors and expect audiences to still show up? I think we're just about 2 "episodes" away from seeing "Star Trek.. The Conquest Of The Vegas Strip", complete with a full musical score.
Producers have to realize that often, too many cooks spoil the broth.
Is STILL a closed source Microsoft product. They could give away Windows for free, and I still would not use it as my OS of choice.
Day to day I still try to understand why people continue to use Windows when all they ever seem to do is complain about finding spyware and viruses on it and having to reboot it constantly.
For all I care, Microsoft can continue to ignore the entire OSS movement, it still does not change my opinion of them one way or another.
I believe that with Red Hat's recent removal of MP3 support, which will probably be followed by many other Linux distros, we will see a rise in the interest into Ogg format. There are already small footsteps to get Ogg's onto iPod's and other portable devices, streaming in a large scale is only logical for a next step.
Just because the BBC ends one project doesn't mean that we should all suddenly abandon Ogg as a serious multimedia format.
I used to work a summer job at a screenprinting shop where we printed the circuit boards for remote controllers and other such things. the trick is finding something that will draw small lines with conductive ink.
after working in many coffee shops I've found one simple thing to be true.
If you need sugar and creme/milk to make the coffee taste better, then your probably drinking crappy coffee.
I also believe that IBM is behind Linux, but not just as a server OS.
We all know that mainframes are getting smaller and smaller, it's just a matter of a few years before they end up being the size of laptops... Linux is a very logical step for a small desktop "mainframe" and/or server. Using Linux as the OS on both would just make connectivity and streamlined installs and upgrades that much easier since all would work using the same OS.
because it's only a pipe dream......
we need men on mars like we need another hole in the head.
i think that there are a few things that we need to concentrate on down here first before we go and throw money at a trip to gather rocks.
gee, it will take me an extra 10 seconds to hook a cable from the audio outputs on my stereo to my audio inputs in my sound card......
when will MicroLame realize that if a sound can be heard, it can be recorded, no matter how much of their $$$ they throw at it.
we're outnumbered by idiots who will buy their kids everything and anything (movies, dvd's and cd's) just to make sure that they are always ahead of the neighbors kids. then there are the idiots that go to the midnight showings of movies, those that wiat in line for days (star wars), and those that wait at the record stores for midnight sales on mondays... I don't see a/. boycott making too big of a dent in their profit graphs
right now we half-ass the iss with a minimal crew which ends up doing more work to operate the station than they do research. why should we continue to fund something which will most likely never show results.
space travel, while important, is far from being a top priority when you consider all the other issues which need to be addressed here on earth.
if russia want to continue sending crews to it, let them, but lets stop throwing money at a space staton which does not help americans, and while we are at it, it may be time to reconsider shuttle missions untill a less costly means of transport is created.
yeah, phoenix lacks the ability to specify to check the cached page to the current page (mozilla and netscape have this option). so that pages (like/.) which get updated more than once a day will show properly updated when you surf to them.
If it's going to look and feel just like Windows, why would anyone bother to switch over? Stability?

next week, shrinks help those who cannot remember their high scores on tetris.
Sounds Like A good Idea.....I can't really be upset about this.
Thanks for the tip on that one, I'll have to check that out.

The essay will be posted twice :)

that is SO not funny :)

"is this trip really necessary" interesting idea.... but a bit much???
there would be a major problem with that... we would have to assume that Lance Bass has male features to even begin with :)
lol, i actually ran that under wine once for the heck of it. it just felt wrong the entire time it was on the screen.
