Wow.. thanks man! That's refreshing, posting a message to tell us you don't plan on posting in the thread! I wish more people who don't plan on participanting in the thread would post that info in the thread.
Why can't websites publish streaming video in some kind of open format that doesn't suck? What's wrong with ogg or mpeg?
Because in a lot of cases the open format comes out way after the "closed" one has been around and is adopted, mainly because the "open" camp seems to only be able to look at something and go "OOOOooo... I think I can recreate that!".
I believe the problem here is that you, like most of the Slashdot crowd, equate the Internet only with "information." You're leaving out entertainment, which Homestarrunner falls under for many of us (disregarding those inevitable people who will say something along the lines of "I don't find it entertainment" and believe that makes it so for all).
So? A victimless crime is *still* a crime. It will remain such until enough people lobby to have it changed from being a crime. However, I really don't see how what these people were doing (pirating material on a large scale) is something that should be supported in any case. These guys are just trying to profit on other's work.
(Waiting for the smartass "Who? The RIAA or the pirates?" response from some immature/.er.)
I did read the article. In this case, what good did the COD get him? A big load of nothin'. He was out a computer and the money. Had he insisted on a check or money order he could have waited for it to clear before sending off the merchandise, thus saving him all his trouble.
...if this guy had just waited to ship the item until the payment had cleared. If the buyer wasn't interested in that, then wait for another buyer who *is* willing.
Would've saved him a lot more trouble and money in the long run.
Sure, I may have purchased some CD lately (say, Bob Dylan's latest), but the act of purchasing it does not give me the right to share the MP3s I rip from it with the world via a P2P program.
Sure, there's the people who will respond with "Well, I can make a copy for a friend or my spouse can't I?" I suppose, but that sort of copying isn't near of the scale of distribution that offering your MP3s on Kazaa gives you.
The GUI is really just a kid's system, as well as a system for those who are not computer literate. GUI functionality on a desktop system is just a cheap hack, not a viable basis for an industry.
Put down the revolutionary propaganda and chill dude. The only effect continuous protesting would have is to cause people to ignore you just on principle. "Oh, here they go again."
"if you stand naked in your doorway and you hold the door closed with Scotch tape, can you complain about someone opening the door and then everyone seeing your naughties"
Not true. Microsoft was ruled a monopoly and they aren't the sole producer of operating systems. They just hold so much of the market that they can use that power as though they *were* the only one in the market though.
Now, I know the use of "unilateral war" is a great rhetoric-filled way to drum up opposition for the action, but, well... it's a falsehood. Try again?
I think my view of the word "taint" has been tainted by its other meaning.
Refresh my memory... where in the Constitution or Bill of Rights is Internet access defined as a "right"?
Why do you have a "right" to look at tits in a library?

The DVD with all eps is released here in the US April 15th.
Maybe she misunderstood her recipe for Apple pie?

I might just have evaluated their needs and their experience and decided they did not need photoshop.
My, doesn't SOMEONE have a heightened sense of self-worth?

I look forward to some personal time with you.

Maybe Wil and Bill *are* beyond cool with each other? Imagine the Kirk and Wesley holodeck dating scenes as they walk arm in arm on a beach.

Who the hell is "Sendo" and why should I care that this company no one has heard of has "stood up" to Microsoft?
BMG reads the letter as such:
Dear BMG,
I am a commie loon who complains about everything. Please ignore me because I haven't bought a CD from you in years anyway.
KAZZA RULZ!!,
Some guy
Couldn't the Home Shopping Network be prior art for this?

Needless to say, I was rather befuddled on the benefits of really small pants to the Army.
Urm... if I recall correctly a lot of the Linux stuff was spraypainted.

Yeah, it's easy to judge and say one should stand up against the RIAA when it's not your money and ass that would be entering the fight.
Those same regions of "empty space" will be completely peppered with dirt roads, which I would qualify as "human influence".
And likely with animal trails...
