    funny thing is, when you press it, it just doesn't shut off. it gives you a prompt and a couple selections (restart, sleep, cancel, and shutdown)

    his comment said it all "That's why we have backups."
    no error messages...the app just did something it shouldn't have. he switched to the backup and continued on.

    what kind of remote controller is he looking for?
    i thought by definition, remote control refers to a program's or device's ability to control a computer system or another device from a remote location. don't you need a computer with wireless capabilities to setup this device?
    what kind of controller is he looking for?
    if he wants to control itunes remotely, changing songs and adjusting the volume, he can use a USB IR remote controller.

    here is where the simplicity of applescript shows.
    drag an app to the script editor, and it will list the available commands for that app. the scripting language itself is very simple, it uses plain english like syntax like run, open, tell, and others.

    The honda Element's factory radio has line ins in the back.
    i believe there's also a 1/8 plug in the front. That's how my cousin connects his ipod.

    specially when you're trying to run OS X on Intel's processor.
    A lot of people I know bought a Mac because of OS X, it didn't matter if it was "slower" than a comparable Intel processor in certain functions. Show me an Intel processor than can run OS X (not just Darwin) then we can start talking about speed comparisons.

    a couple things to consider...
    it seems like mail.app is not fooled by this thing. Also, Get Info sees it as an application.
    lastly, it has to be stuffed or its resource fork gets stripped and it's useless.
    If this can only be executed by itunes then maybe it's not so bad after all.

    yeah. it basically does the command line equivalent of

    IIRC (i haven't used my powermate in a while), you can program the button so clicking and turning the knob scrolls sideways.

    if most of those users are on dial-up.
    If 3/4 of the US population had broadband, the prices would most likely drop. I'm tired of paying $40/mo for cable modem service. DSL is not much cheaper and a lot slower than cable modem.
