Heh, I really doubt removing body parts is a measure school adminitration is willing to take anyway. And i doubt they would sit around trying all the permutations on a simple six digit password either.
Software that pretends to be a valid sound card? We had a virrtualization story just four stories back, i'm thinking it wouldn't be that hard to modify an open source virtualization solution so that the video and audio output devices can be captured from.
Wouldn't be that hard for someone who knows what they are doing that is.
A system i think would work pretty well is them giving you store credit for uploading. That way they save on pipe cost, you get cheaper downloads and since you are encouraged to get more downloads for the cheaper prices you'll help them more with seeding.
I just haven't seen anything worth buying since Homeworld 2 came out.
For me there are three grades of games, the ones i would buy, the ones i might download and the ones i don't bother with. The last two games i downloaded were Civ4, which was so buggy it was unplayable after a certain stage, and Oblivion, where the plot line seemed like an afterthought. Now, i would buy a new Blizzard game or that new Fallout game Bethesda are working on, out of brand loyalty. But i won't even bother downloading any of that EA-clone crap or the latest id-engine-demo.
I really wish there was more emphasis on original stories.
I can see them making a Starcraft based MMORPG/FPS. But there's no way they would make a Diablo based one for two reasons, one, as you mentioned, is the single player thing, as the story is based around one character as opposed to the many you control in WC/SC. The second reason is much more important, Blizzard already has a fantasy MMORPG, WoW, they would not want to make a new subscription-based game targeted at the audience of their existing one, not that many people will bother paying for both and it would double their maintanence costs.
Laugh all you want, but all those blue LEDs make the case look atleast 10 degrees cooler. It's a techology called 'Perceptual LED Cooling', that's why you see them on fans nowadays.
I tried VMware on Windows and i wasn't impressed with the speed Ubuntu ran on it, as well as the lack of graphics acceleration.
I was wondering if there are any solutions that let you switch quickly between OSs without all the overhead, sort of like hibernating one OS and dehibernating another?
Doctors could use this to project the latest cat scan on the patient while in surgery. Architects could superimpose their building designs over the location they are to be built at in real time. You could enjoy a much more interesting game of laser tag and the like. And i'm sure it could enhance the porn experience... =P
And apperantly you can proabably do that since there's a version that "provides the thrills of a multimedia experience while maintaining complete awareness of the surrounding enviroment".
They may not use a simple goal like walking, but in order to learn there has to be some sort of reward/punishment system in place. Real babies have goals like getting their parents' attention, being fed, keeping warm. I wonder what sort of goals a robot baby has to have to learn in the same way a real one does.
I really find it hard to believe that the "Nothing for you to see here. Please move along." i just saw is accidental, some meta-humour by Taco perhaps?
But the thing is, i think most people DO want something that's closer to reality. They want a fantasy that's as real as possible only without hassles like having to deal with the consequences of your actions for the rest of your life or needing to earn money for a living.
I think that's partly responsible for the way the game industry looks nowadays. When back in the day you had the platformers and the adventure-quests and the RPGs all on their own, now i see alot of convergence. Everything is going 3D, RTS games have RPG-type leveling, PRG games have first person perspective.
Oblivion itself is much more realistic than some top-down RPG where you and some monster stand facing each other and take turns at rolling attacks.
So that's where i think you're wrong, people want a fantasy, but they want one that feels as real as possible.
Heh, I really doubt removing body parts is a measure school adminitration is willing to take anyway.
And i doubt they would sit around trying all the permutations on a simple six digit password either.
I'm sure a simple password would do.

This really should have been moded informative, people need to work on their sense of meta-humour. =\
Or 'Yaicrosoft' for that matter.
I'm all for the idea though, when evil consolidates it just makes it easier to hit.

All this shows is that stupidity and lack of responsibility are hereditary.

More like a sick feeling for me.
He's like the non-Sci-Fi version of Shatner.

I was thinking along the same lines.
Doctors could use this to project the latest cat scan on the patient while in surgery.
Architects could superimpose their building designs over the location they are to be built at in real time.
You could enjoy a much more interesting game of laser tag and the like.

How long until it learns how to frag?

The story mentions that the AI is made using neural nets.
I think it's amazing how such simple data structures can generate such complex behaviour.
In case anyone is interested, there's this pretty easy to understand tutorial on neural nets here:

I'm sure you made an intelligent post, but all i could think of was:
Why did the meringuoid cross the road?
To die of bird flu when he got to the other side.
I really find it hard to believe that the "Nothing for you to see here. Please move along." i just saw is accidental, some meta-humour by Taco perhaps?
Well, since the first letter in the acronym doesn't have any meaning anyway, i think MS/Turd would be more apropriate.
I find the image of a sweaty Ballmer saying "The horror! the horror!" much more believeable.
I don't know about you, but i hold notepad in the highest regard as a text editor.
No plane, but i believe there was a fossilized cete of proto-badgers found nearby.
Wouldn't 'dugg' be a more appropriate word?
Three that are actually one?
Doesn't the catholic church have prior art on that one?
