Well considering that alpha is a discontinued platform I doubt anyone would be smart to buy one. Furthermore, if this technology is the next evolution of containers (which I think it is) it's nothing like what you speak of. You don't need to maintain a seperate os image for each zone, making administration easy. The only problem I've had with containers is isolation, which I hear has improved with zones. Physical partitioning (domains) have been in the sun product line since the 10k. Try understanding the technology before you comment about it... or more likely, IHBT
These systems may require Pro installation, but if you saw some of the guys doing this, you'd know it's not that big of a deal. After I saw the crackhead (quite literally, I'm not poking fun) who installed my coworkers Starband system I decided to get certified myself. It didn't cost me anything, Took me about two hours, and now I'm certified to install these things. Plus if you install your own system, you make a commission on the money you pay for your service. Take a look at http://training.starband.com/html_files/installati on_training.htm
Well, this LCD isn't designed to just "connect" to a computer. If you read the data sheet on the page (this thing) you'll see that the interface specs include one hsync line, one vsync line, and three lines for each color (RGB.) You just need to generate logic pulses according to the timing charts around page 9 or so. So how do you interface this LCD easily with a PC? You don't, you need to convert the VGA signal to something this display can understand, or even DVI if you're lucky enough to have a card that supports it.
It's a generic card that uses the Brooktree driver
(Generally the cheapest capture cards available.)
The motherboard uses a VIA chipset, I have an asrock k7-vm2. As far as CPU, take your pick, sar, top, or any of the other standard means to measure performance in UNIX.
I use myth (mainly because it supports live tv while freevo doesn't.) It's a decent program, but still somewhat buggy. I find it crashes on occasion, and compiling can be a nightmare at times. With a fast processor (I have an Athlon XP1800) you can easily encode and decode without having to use a hardware mpeg card. The setup process is somewhat painful, and sometimes confusing. I think Myth is great for a DIY'er, but not ready for a consumer solution.
This is nothing unusual, Many open source products are not 'officially' sanctioned. One such example is Linux itself, not a certified UNIX by the Open Group.
Not all the cool ones are taken.... I just registered strokesnatch.com and strokesnatcher.com last week. (No they're not porno sites, and this isn't a troll, it's even safe to check at work if you're a moderator and don't believe me.) I think this is a pretty cool domain, and I couldn't believe that no one else had snatched (hehe) it.

Those waterproof keyboards suck. I've owned two of them. Eventually the seal breaks, air gets in, and the keys all 'bubble up' makes it impossible to type.
You should check out the Via C3 processor. I use one of these at home in my webserver. It's a rather slow chip, but its biggest draw is that it costs less than $50us for a 1GHz chip, and draws only 10 watts. I run mine without a fan.
But I am logged in, hence my posts are under my login, and I don't browse at the default... I think there's a conspiracy by Slashdot or the Aliens or the Druids to destroy my sanity.... or something like that
This is the second story I've seen where the text on the main page didn't match the text of the real story. On the main page I see:
mentions that Linux-based LindowsOS is affordable, is not a panakeia
and in the story:
mentions that Linux-based LindowsOS is affordable, is not a panacea
Obviously a correction of a typo, but why doesn't it show up on the main page?! (I'm not caching the page either, this happens on PC's that I've never used to visit slashdot.) Sorry for the OT post, but I'm losing my Mind!
I don't think this is pagerank, reading the link, this looks more like another rating system that is similar to pagerank. It's great for study, but I don't think reading through the source and finding ways to 'trick' this algorithm will necessarily work on Google. Correct me if I'm wrong someone.
Sure the zseries runs Linux, and I never said OSS didn't have its place or value. I have yet to see CICS for linux though, hell, they don't even make a good 3270 implementation for Linux. You'd love to make everything black and white, but it's just not that simple. We have two S390's here, and we run Linux on several of the LPARS, but OS/390 isn't going anywhere anytime soon because Linux still doesn't do the entire job.
That's hollow. Name one thing that propriatory software does that free software does not besides interoperate with propriatory software. In those rare instances, a purchasing agency can claim "sole source vendor" and make the purchase and those are looked on with susupecion.
I'll name a few...
Siebel (customer relationship management the only open source package I found is a total joke)
Oracle (this is prolly gonna get me flamed, but MYSql still isn't there yet, and postgresql isn't much closer.)
FOX or any other law enforcement software (Interface software to the federal law enforcement network, it wouldn't be hard to write an open solution, but hundreds of lives depend daily on the functionality of this software, it's important that this is developed with a very pure codebase, and bugs are corrected within minutes. Price comes second, the lives of officers comes first with this application.)
Filenet (archival software, very tightly integrated with our WORM drives, makes tar look like a plaything)
Livelink (documentation management system)
CICS (old mainframe app, ask your dad)
or for that matter any of the mainframe apps we use
...and there are others. It's not as simple as little web forms and spreadsheets, we need to preserve the integrity and availability of our (the people's) data for a LONG time. Some people in the OSS community are trying to make this a political issue, not a technical one, which is a shame.

I know it's a joke, but I'll bite anyway:
They already do

Thank you! My post was certainly not a troll. Thankfully I have some Karma to burn.
Very cool, and thanks... but how did you come about those addys? Just making sure this isn't a troll.
Apparently mrbumper.com is the new goatse.cx. They're still around after the revocation of their domain.... Teaches me to try links.

It most certainly doesn't. The best you can do is watch live tv. Timeshifting is not yet possible.
look here

Here's a copy of Google's mirror
I know I'm going to get modded down for saying this, but it has to be said:
Hordes of the underdark in stores sounds to me like the rush of gamers crawling out of their caves and into walmart to buy this new game.
I was under the impression that iTunes let you burn unlimited CD's? They claim the number is 10 in the article. Which is correct?
Get one of These and you can hot swap cpu's...
It's Wednesday, isn't sun Bad on Wed? Or maybe that was Amazon.... or Verisign? I'm so confused.
