The webpage mentioned in the article has been posted here before. I'm too lazy to find the link, but the guys are really good, these are just three new logo projects they've done.
Anyway, imagine a beowulf cluster of these!
It's been proved and proved again that changing the code to get to the "secret menu" is not effective. If these companies really want to keep people out, they should get rid of the secret menu.
Suppliers who are scrambling to provide patches, as well as users who wish the patches would arrive more quickly, feel pressured by "white hat" hackers. They publicize security flaws before giving suppliers a chance to fix them -- thus providing tools for malicious hackers to use.
Not white hats, grey or black hats stupid newsfactor.
Whoa, slashdot is SOOOOOOOOO slow on this story. I read about this last week and also posted it a couple hours ago (I almost didn't bother) to my website, which is located here. My post links to a story which links to inside Rare employee comments on the transfer.
I think this is a somewhat good idea, as some people don't know how to setup a rom/emu environ, and for those of us who do, maybe we can play some titles we don't have.
"Windows XP was available for illegal use on the streets of Moscow two months before it was released in the U.S. by Microsoft," Biden said. "Every episode of "Seinfeld" is now available to download free to anyone with access to the Internet."
Actually, it's not free...some of us are on by-the-byte connections, so it does cost money, and it costs time and effort. But as for "free of cost", yes, you can download the same thing you see on the TV. If they don't want it out don't put it on free air TV.
And as for all this talk about watermarking, remember, if this stuff ever goes goldmaster (so to speak), there'll be a simple answer, probably either a marker-esque solution or a "check the streets of Moscow" solution... Then they'll be complaining that the watermarking is freely available on "the internet".
$300 is ridiculous. I remember trying to register a.tv domain, and they wanted $500.
"enabling effective, secure communication between professionals and users for the first time in the history of the Internet"
Um, no, it won' t be secure nor effective by default. LOL, this is not the first time secure and effective communication has taken place between "pros and users". Who do these people think they are? God?
At Target, we card people buying certain "M" rated (ESRB rating for Mature) games. I believe this is because of federal law already in place. In the past 7 months I've only had 1 time when a minor tried to buy an M game. It was the Diablo 2 expansion pack. More often, parents will come through with their kids and buy the sex/profanity/violence ridden Grand Theft Auto 3 (top selling game I heard) for PS2.
And the weird thing is, we DON'T card if a 13 year old girl wants to buy Resident Evil or some other rated R movie. That makes a lot of sense. I guess the feds figure as long as its not interactive then its OK?
I'd say this site didn't make itself obviously clear that it was a student site, and not the official site. There is the link at the bottom, however it could be more obvious.
It isn't a commerical site, so he's probably safe from the claims depending on that, however if the school invokes the DMCA, then he's dead in the water I suppose?
I don't think this is new cuz those ducks in Duck Tales used it like 10 years ago a Goldenbook.
Awesome Possibilies!

Now, it would be really cool if this stuff got cheap and bio-friendly. Meaning you could paint your entire body in it. Imagine being a chameleon! You could turn red when your mad. You could be African American today and Albino tomorrow. You could radiate shimmering rainbow colors at will. The next step would be to interface these LCD's with your brain, so you wouldn't have to mess with a controller device.
Alas, too good to be true.
Which is better, StarOffice or OpenOffice?
This is ridiculous, I watched the first post come up on this news item and already the site isn't responding!!
Reports posted on angelfire don't get much respect. The web is very large and this guy only used 5 phrases, and the study size is not large enough in relation to the web's size to accurately determine anything. Also, google has probably changed their algorithm in the past year, so the results would change even for the same query. And what does he define as decay? How long does it take for information to get "old"? I think its relavent to the content of the webpage.

Um...just write a program to backup and restore (if needed) your profile. I did.

Does this mean there will be any new features or anything? I looked around and details are sketchy.
I just realized I have another hour to read slashdot! Thanks Daylight Savings Time!
Usually slashdot isn't that bad on news speed, but this story has been out for a while and JesusGeeks has already covered it.

Personal Protection?
If I can't play MY music, then this is PERSONAL HARRASMENT, NOT PROTECTION!
Someone at Microsoft should be whacked.
Heck, to hell with all of them.
In the words of Emmanuel Goldstein,
"Denial of Service (DoS) attacks are not hacking."

Dammit can't they ever stop being greedy!??!
Anyone notice that this article was written by John Markoff, the same guy who wrote the slanderous stuff about Kevin Mitnick way back?
Test.
I think most spammers these days forge the headers with stuff like "From: "Hot4You" ".
They just make it look like it came from free email sites.

Hmm, I notice the female companion trend and the startled look too.
However, they must be at least 18, not at least 21 (for Target).
Did I miss something?

Kill that stupid law!

I'll stick with my super nintendo.
