Not to be flamebait, but I believe there was an article very similar to this one a couple of weeks ago.
That said, I'm curious as to how the cost of living in India compares to that of the United States, and respectively, how the pay an Indian programmer (or programming living in India, perhaps) compares to a US programmger. Does it all equal out, relatively? Or does one place have an inherent advantage over the other?
Yeah, I know, mostly my comment was sarcasm. *grin*
But you're right, people don't stay nearly up to date on patches - for pretty much anything they use.
Reminds me of the time my friend couldn't get his Counter-Strike to work, and wanted me to help him. Within like two minutes, I realized he hadn't updated his video drivers.
In this corner, weighing in at 110lbs a small, geeky nerd who has cornered the entire computer industry with its crippling monopoly software.
And in the other, weighing in at a thousand terabytes, a small, simple, yet incredibly efficient search engine, who has become a household name for internet searches.
I know who I'd place my money on.
(PS: I am aware of the fact that my numbers are inaccurate.)
I think that Unreal Tournament came with an excellent level builder, and is worth taking a look at. (At least if you're interested in FPS games.) There are also lots of great tutorials and resources available for it, seeing as the game has been around for so long.
The trick is to include all the tweaks and fixes that were implemented in the old code. Obviously, if you rewrite and then leave open all the gaps and problems from the earlier version, there's no point in rewriting. However, you could rewrite with those fixes in mind, and come out with a completely new (and problem-free) edition.
Mostly this article just reinforces what I already knew about myself and my online associates. Honestly, the whole geek image has been one of stereotype since the beginning. Not everyone who uses computers and goes online frequently has thick glasses and no girlfriend, sitting around playing EverQuest all day. (This isn't an attack on EQ players, I am one.)
Most of my friends who can be found sitting behind their computer all day watch little to no television, and spend a great deal of their time reading (I personally find e-books easier to read than real books, and do so often.) I would say the internet is a far better medium to immerse yourself in than television or radio.
That wow, that sucks eh? Having to pay more to ship your product? Poor little labels....
I think little labels may be exact the people that will be most hurt by this. I've purchased some very quality cds for about $9 (which is much more fair IMHO,) from smaller labels who carry less-than-famous artists. Could be a major hit to these small record labels, which may not have huge amounts of revenue.
I won't claim to have ever been a fan of Microsoft, but this seems this seems like a genuinely nice move. Rather than force many people to either a) live without continued updates and tech support or b) upgrade to newer Microsoft OS software (which isn't cheap by most people's standards, including mine.)
Something in the back of my head is echoing that soft warning that I always hear when I think of wal-mart. Watch, they'll undercut and dominate this market place too.
Wal-Mart is going to be the Microsoft of the general retailer consumer good and grocery markets, I swear.
it was just unicron eating one of the autobot mooons.
The first time I read that I thought it said "unicorn" and I was very puzzled.
Police investigation into the brutal act led to one eye witness, Chandra, who described the black hole's violent attack as "gruesome."

Moe: "Well, if you're so sure what it ain't, why don't you tell us what it am."

Oy.
Thank god that crisis is over. Now I can sleep better at night. Well, once they work out those few remaining holes..
Disclaimer: I use linux. I fret not.

they can retire Britney Spears and just replace her with a touring Vocaloid. (And maybe some strippers.)
Still no word on the x-ray vision glasses. I don't about you, but I can't wait for that release.
It's actually just a test for the true roll-out, which will prevent the reproduction and distribution of the Constitution and Bill of Rights.
It is not, however, blocking the patirot act reproductions at this time.

Microsoft claims that HP bundling the iTunes program will be bad for competition.
In other news, pot calls kettle black. Film at 11.
Maybe it's retaliation for their drug prices
Nah, the new perscription plan is going to take care of that.

The consumer wins in this one. Yay for that.
Better be careful where they dump those windows discs, there's laws against just throwing your trash on the ground.
Were are going to need some really hi-res pr0n to make best use of that
I have no doubt that this is a common use for such viewing technologies.
A freakin' 76 inch monitor!?
My god.. its like some sort of idol for geekish worship.
Anyone who hasn't played GTA3 is missing something in their life, as far as I'm concerned.
I mean, working for the mob, bashing pimps with baseball bats and escorting hookers around just never gets old.
... smaller is better.
This is quite possibly the only instance I can think of where this is true.
Cheers. =)

Bite my shiny metal ass.
Why do I need to do that? I know who I am..
