I've never had the need to take any drugs, other than booze, because I'm a hardcore gamer. I get such a rush playing that I find myself totally walled off from reality while I'm fragging.
The rush I have is sort of like the one Alex has in "The Clockwork Orange" (the book is a lot deeper into the pleasure he's having but the movie version captures the soul of it, especially the scenes in the hospital bed in the end). I should add that I don't go around beating people up for fun, but I found that Anthony Burgess (and Stanley Kubrick) depicted the rush of pleasure in a way that almost mirrors my own.
Booze only hightens this effect and I don't even need more than a couple beers to sharpen my senses.
Mind you, I'm not a very good gamer and when I'm drunk I suck even more but the rush, OH, THE RUSH!
I have a pro Counter-strike player that's a fan of my server and when he comes on the noise of the "cheater" screams from the kiddies is enough to make me take my headphones off and ignore the dialogs on the server.
BTW, I have to take my headphones off 'cause the kiddies start bitching on the microphone.
It's a real shame, the guy's a great player and he's a nice guy that helps out anyone that asks for it (including yours truly, I've learned a lot about rushing with him).
I'm a good CS player - and by good I mean that I frag at least twice as much as I die and play by the rules (camp as CT and rush as T on de_ maps). I've also commited to memory most of the popular maps and know where people camp (and how to get them). I've also learned that walking is the best way to play (Ninja Mode as I call it).
Anyway... I've never used a cheat in my life and now, in CS 1.6, it's really hard to cheat yet I've been banned from servers because I "cheat".
If I had learned to cheat, I would have never learned to play well, I can hold my own against most clanners in lan houses and I'm respected as a gamer despite being "old". Mind you, I play about an hour a day (when the wife lets me).
Since so many USian companies block all email from the brazilian IPs should I now block all email from USian IPs?
This isn't a troll (despite sounding like one).
I'm very upset that my mail server, a very well maintained with a plethora of spam and virus filters, is blocked by asshat american sysadmins "just because we're spammers".
I guess that puts Free Software advocates, the FSF. Linux and *BSD geeks, IBM and Macromedia all in the same boat crying foul on Microsoft.
Anyway, goes to show that the the Antitrust Trial meant nothing to Microsoft, they just went back to the good old "Embrace, Extend and Alienate" strategy (i.e. "Business As Usual".
I was reading about There a few days back and since I'm in the middle (actually, finishing off) Snow Crash, I was thinking that this online world is a lot like the Neal Stephenson Metaverse, all the capitalism and stuff.
If you're slightly more relaxed, Slackware is great - or any other no frills distribution would do like, Tawnie - very small and tight, just like Tawnee Stone (hehehehehe, sorry 'bout that, the new name for the distribution is nice, but sounds to much like Tawnee).
If you're relaxed and calm, any distribution is fine.
This isn't very useful information considering a universe of 65 votes.
You know, I have a secret.

I confess, FPS games are my drug.

Parent may have been moded funny but I agree with him 100%.
:)
You've posted a whole load of great stories on Slashdot without an obvious agenda.
BTW, since you're going to Gamasutra, I'll start reading it.
Yup. Great episode...
:)
Indiana Jones with a walkie talkie instead of a whip.
And substitute weapons for walkie talkies and replace the word "terrorist" for "unamerican"?

CS Player Ola "elemeNt" Moum's sale (or buying out of his contract) from Schroet Kommando (SK) to NoA.
More info: SK's site, NoA's site and CSNation.
Only criminals use free software.
YES!!!!
"Ramming Speed" is probably the most basic yet most powerful thing a captain can say at the helm.
"Let's make sure history never forgets the name Enterprise"

If TPTB hadn't screwed up the whole Star Trek franchise, I'd still think that that phrase Picard utters was the pearl of the whole thing.
Now, after all the crap that has been shown, I think of it as pearl of a period where Star Trek was worth watching.
Other than that, most B5 battles were REALLY good, especially the ones with the Minbari dreadnoughts.
It reminds me of CmdrTaco, Hemos and CowboyNeal in the old (and still loved, by me at least) Geeks in Space.
Just a bunch of guys with crazy ideas - first download and I'm hooked.
Only one of the files are on BitTorrent, the other two are straight up downloads... I sense a server meltdown on the horizon.

Cheating sucks, it really, really does.
... for these past 6 years (since the first Slashdot post about the movies in 1998).
The Lord of the Rings might not be what everybody wanted but it was good enough to satisfy a lot of people. One movie to rule them all..

I just hope they don't pull a 10ton (of Crimsonland fame) and sell out to start charging for the game.
Crimsonland was fun, but the paid version, from what I've heard, is nothing more than the free one with a few more guns.
Desert Combat is fun, REALLY fun!
I read the reviews last week.
The user comments are even better than the main review. Well worth the read.
'nuff said.
However, I will have patience and download it from those asshats. I just hope that it's more exciting than Matrix: Revolutions.

Forseenable, but I don't like the idea so I'll go looking for alternatives as "cool" and "IPO" are two words that don't mix.
Are there any good search engines out there as Google is about to go down the drain in a bubble of hype?
Go with OpenBSD.

That explains why the site stopped responding and my downloads fell to 1kb/s.
Thanks slashdot!
