Australia needs to expand its high tech industry. Currently we don't have the a internationally competitive aerospace or high-tech industry to support a space program and that's one our big problems. The majority of Australian export are primary goods that is eventually made into something that is sold at significant higher price than what we export because Australia doesn't have a significant industry that can manufacture the goods. I think a major into space industry with home grown technology will do more good than just putting satellites into space and this requires major investment not just at the space program.
Considering that 90% of all complaints were filed by one religious group (can't remember the exact year and name), I don't think the morale police is at the FCC.
I do find that most commerical games are just repetition of previous games. Same game mechanics, adjusted story lines, with a few innovation here and there.
The games that actually challenges me ? Free flash puzzle games, and there are plenty of them on the web.
How do you protect your kids in real life ? Predators are there and they're real. Do you lock them away and shield them from the real world ?
Like the so called "war on terror", it is not a military solution alone, its a combination of economical, social and military etc etc approach.
I don't see a technological solution to a social problem. These problems has been around way before the tubes have been laid. My parents have taught me be cautious or avoid strangers etc etc and I am still alive, commonsense and being actively involved with your kids goes a very very long way.
Apart from transparency, the other possible advantage of open-source is community involvement. With the success or participation seen in the Linux and Mozilla community, you would think that with something as import as voting. There would be an non-profit organization setup to create systems to achieve these goals.
Its unfair to judge someones work simply by throwing out some numeric values you know nothing about, 500 lines of code and 200 pages says nothing about the content of the work considering there is experiment, theory, methodology that has to be done. From my experience, a good concise thesis that explains and defends its work and theory can be done in a lot less than 200 pages.
This isn't an isolated incident. Although I think the string of technical incidents suffered by Qantas isn't a coincidence either.
"A global alert was issued in 2005 after a Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 en-route to Kuala Lumpur from Perth experienced similar problems.
Investigators found a software glitch in a unit made by the same US manufacturer as the one in the Qantas plane combined with a mechanical problem."

I am sure many reader are probably aware that assets of Iceland's bank were seized using anti-terrorism laws. Out of curiosity for people from the UK, is there even any reaction to this misuse of power ? With the economic going down, and surely crime rate will rise, I wouldn't trust the civil servants with powers like this.

Evolution has considerable amount of data to support it, hardly the lack of evidence you seem to believe it is.
and lets not kid ourselves, the religious right won't have something as trivial as "fact" to influence their argument or belief.
Evolution is both a theory and a fact. (un)Intelligent design is pile of crap sugar coated to look like science. It is not a valid scientific hypothesis because it doesn't have an valid data or methodologies to back it up.
I don't know what state or school you were taught in, but in most classes I have attended, the focus isn't on the theory but on how and why the conclusion was reached, it a sad day when politic have driven education to put the focus on the conclusion rather than how the conclusion was reached.
I am a bit dumbfounded by your approach to reading article. You need trust to read something ? What happened to critical anaylsis.
I think most "reasonable" people will read an article and analysis the content of the article rather than taking the content on blind faith. You've basically judged an article simply by the publisher without even considering any of the issues brought up from the article.
It seems the question isn't whether you should trust it or not, its whether you can make an informed judgment, and it doesn't seem you can.
Did the sampling take propaganda into consideration ? From what I've read from the report, the general concern isn't about free speech but about red herring issues such as internet addiction about internet gaming, porn, violence etc. Some thing that Jack Thompson would thrive at.
If the government is able to control the message about the purpose of the internet censorship, such poll can be easily swayed.
I also think the title is very broad, I doubt 85% will support censorship on basic rights to voice opionion
With the Russian accident in mind, why do they still dock the same way ? From what i've read, a collision could, due to the size of the capsule could be catastrophic. Couldn't they make the capsule approach the space station in a parrallel course rather than heads on, than use the robotic arms or something equivalent to pull the capsule in ? of couse that would mean that they would have to redesign the capsule.
The article also states the lobbying by the RIAA, money + politics, I wouldn't call it fud so quickly.
Also Telstra doesn't care about their customers, they care about profits. Due to the nature of packages offered by most ISP in Australia, these illegal downloads do generate more profits for the ISP. That is the reason, not the rights of the customers.
In the real world, "generally" cops are used as a response to incident rather than a pre-emptive measurement before an incident occurs. I think the correct term is spy.

You don't need intelligence let alone artificial intelligence to interact with people in those MMO games

Whats the point of placing the server in a nuclear bunker when you can just snip the cable (both metaphorically and physically) to limit the access.
