I haven't fully tested it (they offer your first download free though after registering), but changing your user agent to IE in XP seems to work so far.. Maybe they'll redesign their site to not quarantine mac users
For the record, it is its own series now as the DQ Swords game is the second one. There was the stand alone game that plugs directly into the TV with a reflective sword that came out a couple years ago. It's sort of a remake of Dragon Quest I so maybe it doesn't count too much, but still.
Yeah that's a link I included in the original story along with your basic links to SE and Level 5. Surprised no one has jumped on it saying the subtitle is actually closer to "Defenders of the Sky" or "Defenders of the Starry Sky" (depends who you ask atm). It was written last night right before bed as soon as I could piece it all together. I got some stuff like the DQ Arcade game from Famitsu's blog directly, most of which is on their main page now. Surprised most english news sites have no idea about the Arcade game...
So I guess that means you've actually found one that works... I never seem to be able to figure out how to do a router config from Mac OS X:( Any tips would be appreciated (I'm a second year diploma student taking CCNP courses.. CCNP 1 Finals are tomorrow...)
Sure I'm a week late to the discussion, but my manager at EB Games in Canada said that there might even not be preorders on PS3. It would just be first come first served. Not having enough systems for preorders just looks bad for them. M$ short shipped the 360 for the store and for the launch, he went to the trouble of scheduling pickup times and including all the games and accessories you wanted. Only two people out of at least twenty came at their time and even then they wanted to change their order.
Wii should get preorders, but yeah probably after Nintendo actually says how much and when about it...
Nintendogs, which sold a quarter-million in the first week
Well the first week sales numbers aren't a good indication of the DS's impact. I mean a Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy game can break a million in less than 100 hours.... What IS important for Nintendo is the continued sales of these games as discussed in Iwata's TGS 2005 keynote. He said that games like Nintendogs and Brain Training sold well for a number of months unlike PS2 (and most other system's games) that have a burst of sales for a week or three and then fall to the wayside and don't even deserve being on the shelf after two months.
Um... Hello? Square Enix has said they won't implement voice chat because it's more difficult to track abuses. (Although I read something in the manual about there being voice chat... *rereads* Ah only send and receive Xbox Live voice messages.. no big deal since every 360 game will do that via the guide button)
omg new friend!:P I'm currently trying to save the violinist from a bad case of the runs on Cheerleader mode... Those Cheer Gals are hot:P The game has definately held my attention for a loooong time and some of it's moments even had me tearing up except when I sucked so bad stuff happened:(/:P
This is really scary... Five pages about a "30 minute" demo? I suppose we haven't seen FFXII in a long time so people might need reminding... The DQVIII demo was hours long...
I'm still more concerned about Dragon Quest VIII though. FFXII was a good play according to a DQer at E3 2004 so I don't think the demo will be abysmal. DQVIII, however, adds mismatched voices, poor button layouts (try using L1 and L2 as yes and no and then go to the menu where L1 becomes page left) and *shivers* the menu... Bundling the game with the FFXII demo is a good idea for sales, but combined with the localization itself, seems like SE has their own idea of what Dragon Quest is. It's almost as if they are forcing it to sell by changing what was good about it before (spell names, sound effects). Remains to be seen this month though and I still can't wait.
And for those of you interested in DQVIII, you should take a look at slimeknights.com. Square Enix IS pushing the game like never before. (Ok so they aren't arranging with Sony to give out copies in OPM, but all sorts of merchandise [just not Japanese merchandise] and a big community of fans there)
[FriNov11:10:51:59] !dq8 [FriNov11:10:52:00] DragonQuest 8 will be released in the US in 3days 21hrs 9mins 19secs
...the multiplayer map pack? Will that be installed on the HDD the same as before and will it be able to be accessed in the same way? Would there be effectively a compatibility zone on Xbox 360 HDs to let Xbox games still feel at home with the bigger HDs?
Wasn't that the case with the Xbox as well? Nov 15, 2001 for NA and Feb 22, 2002 for Japan... Would think Europe was inbetween those... So much for the simultaneous launch though. Weeks away though which will be neat to watch how well it works...
Not to mention how us right handers usually miss the right control and alt (option and command if you will) and on a laptop keyboard they are usually smaller or not there.
What that leaves us is trying to Open a document or print a document. Mac: easy one handed. Right thumb on control and any key can be hit with a finger on that same hand. Windows: impossible one handed. Left hand on control, right hand pecks out o or p.
Maybe I should learn to use the right control key. Maybe I should stop whining and pretend that the author of TFA is smarter than me, but from my view, the mac command key is better. Maybe they were thinking about one handed ease of use back in 1984 by sticking the command key right next to the space bar who knows?
Nintendo used to have an annual show just for them: Spaceworld. That's where the GameCube (and the original realistic Zelda demo) was shown in 2000. It's been dead for a few years now, but new system makes the perfect excuse to revive it.
They have been going nuts over Dragon Quest VIII (in addition to the recent launches of the DS and PSP). In terms of money made on Dragon Quest VIII, IGN said late last month that "One media research group predicts that sales of the game will top 4.12 million, resulting in revenues of 36.2 billion yen" (~351 Million USD) "for Square Enix. The same media research group predicts that total economic fallout from DQVIII, including sales of the game, related goods, commuter fares for people going to pick up the game and snacks people consume as they play the game will top 51 billion yen." (~495 Million USD)
Whether or not this is "bigger than Hollywood" in terms of time/money/manhours/other resources vs. profit, is up for debate. Big numbers either way...
The first Sony CD based gaming system was an addon for the SNES and it was called the PlayStation. For a number of reasons, the deal fell through and Sony, having done so much work on it already, decided to keep making a CD based console but they called it PlayStation X internally. The media caught wind of this though and everywhere OTHER than Sony is their first system called PSX. Of course, your suggested alternate names point out the problem of coming up with a catchy name with the word PlayStation in it and potentially describing what it does. Everyone knows what PSX is even if they don't know that its their PVR device.
I just got used to the idea that the PSX would not make it to North America, but I guess its coming anyways. It really makes me wonder as an owner of a PS2 HDD though as to the kind of support PSX owners could expect. Sure we will get the new hardware revision due out in Japan, but after the thing is out then what? How much visible support for the PS2 HDD been from Sony? This is a similar enough product (niche wise) so I don't think it looks good...
The PS2 Hard Drive has a new browser and a new (for non 50001 model users) CD player along with installing a new (for non 50001 model users:P) DVD player (3.02) onto a memory card. No changes to the PSX "drivers" though prolly considering that its all hardware anyways.
(The CD player is actually a lower version on the hard drive than on the 50001 unit. The 50001 lets you control the CD player with the remote buttons (play, pause) and the one on the hard drive does not. Sony states in the manual that to get the functionality back, you have to remove the hard drive for playing CDs. Thats what they get for having it in "development" since 2001. A new model comes out and they make it worse with an old product.)
"Xenosaga Episode 1 - Installs to the HDD to decrease load times. Allows you to save your game and load it to and from the HDD directly so that you don't need a memory card. Takes up 1,792 megabytes."
according to http://www.sscorpio.com/~bungiefan/psbbn_faq.html
It even had two video files comparing load times with and without HDD support.
Well, Xenosaga still has an HDD.IRX file on the disc. It claims to be a linux package (iirc) and also says that it can read ext2, ext3 and some swap variant. I'm very curious to see if it comes to life upon detecting the HDD or if it was just disabled and left there (talk about lazy).

adding ?fromint=1 usually gets you to the page.
Japan's Xbox launch of 2/22/2002 wasn't too bad :P

it was secure? If you made it secure with all your open source-ness? If you stuck it offline in one government office?
Sure this thing will probably not be the most secure server ever, but if it was, would this be such an issue?
Get your friggin' Hans off our island, eh?

Where did F-Zero AX go? I thought Nintendo was working with Namco to make that show up...

Aww man... Why did you have to post as anon? I want you to see if you can fix my 128k Mac and potentially find me a 601 upgrade for my Quadra 605. :/
:P
All that talk about being better sellers and you didn't even leave your contact information. Shame
