No kidding. I rented "Y Tu Mama Tambien" from Blockbuster and a "steamy" scene was edited that totally blew the plot out of the water. From then on I was like, "what the hell happened". Luckily, my girlfriend at the time had seen it previously and could tell me what had happened.
Without her telling me what happened I would have just thought he movie was inconsistent. Maybe there is some info about the content chops in the DVD that I missed?
"Name me a time when affordable removable media were larger than fixed media, so you could reliably back up to one disc.... still waiting. It's never been the case, and probably never will be, because it's much harder to make reliable removable media, period."
How about when 640 MB CD-ROMs were bigger than the 540 MB hard drives that were in computers at the time? Maybe you meant removable + recordable media?
What about tape drives? Tapes used to be way bigger than hard drives...
How about when we attack some poor website who obviously does not have resources for a slashdotting... maybe some of the FP people could coralize the link. I mean... the technology is out there. They even have plugins for Firefox and IE.
BTW, I give mod points to whoever coralizes a link first...
That is why every semiconductor manufacturer has been lowering voltages. Remember 5V ICs? 3.3V? I don't even know where we are right now, but I'm sure its less than 1.5V. The formula you are quoting is
P = I * V^2
Where I is current and V is voltage. Its a fundamental formula in calculation of direct current power consumption for all electronic circuits.
Yeah, I'm pretty disappointed in that as well. For now I wrote a batch file that converts WAV files to MP3 using a command line version of LAME. Its not pretty, but it gets the job done.
I figure eventually I'll either finish up a short VBScript and execute it via a cron job, or I'll write a VB application. I don't know VB, but I don't want to turn this into a fullscale project. I just want my files in MP3 format:(
I like Canon Printers as well. Here in the US their printers have been at the top of their class in Consumer Reports (i860 was #1). I also like how Canon will sell you individual ink colors for refills. With HP I would have to replace the whole dang color tank for $50 - $60 if just the color pink ran out. With my Canon i860 I spent less than $14, and if I buy at Sam's Club I can get all colors for less than $30. Go Canon!
I would disagree with that. Any time you help your community, your neighbor, or your country you are helping to make America a better place. Those who serve in the military certainly have a legitimate reason. Those who volunteer in soup kitchens, picking up trash on the side of the road (adopt a road... not prisoners), help out at the local nursing home, serve in public office, take care of a needy neighbor, etc... all of these people are helping to make America a better place and all deserve to be proud of the better place it has become. I enourage all of you to go out and see what you can do for your country.
AGP is a point-to-point bus. That is, you cannot have more than one device on the bus. That is why you don't see multiple AGP slot solutions. While I'm sure someone could find a way hardware wise you would need software to do its part as well. PCI Express will change all of that.
I actually like their idea. 99% of sites render perfectly with Mozilla Firefox. However, there is that 1% that do not.
The default for the Netscape browser is to use the Firefox engine (Display Like Netscape). However, you can click on a tab's yellow button and select the IE engine for that particular site only. This is a great hybrid approach. So lets say your bank does not support Firefox. No problem. You select "Display Like Internet Explorer" and only that site displays like IE. In fact, its kind of tricky and people don't even know they are switching rendering engines. In addition, the bookmarks and settings are all in the same Netscape browser.
I like Firefox just fine so I'll be sticking to what I have, but this is definitely an option I can recommend to non-geeks.
This is just a collection of digital music players. There is no testing of the devices, and no specifics on what features are available. Yes it does include information about capacity and some other surface level stuff, but thats about it. What I would really like to see is an in depth review of digital music players. Ideally, the review would answer questions like:
Does it include gapless playback?
How loud is the unit?
How well does the software function?
Does the device work as a USB Mass Storage device?
USA.net is still around. I have been using their e-mail since 1996. They did switch to a pay option a while back, but if you pay two years at a time you get a discount. In the time they have switched they have consistently stayed ahead or near the front of the pack in features. They have spam filtering through brightmail, you can view e-mail through phones and PDAs, they have IMAP, 20 MB+ e-mail boxes (used to be big before this year), etc... There are lots of other features I'm not mentioning.
They take their business pretty seriously and their service is great. I have used one e-mail as my primary e-mail address for the last eight, going on nine years. Thats quite crazy to think about. That being said I am switching to my own private e-mail addy when my subscription runs out, or I may renew for one more year to make sure people don't lose track of me. Its been a good run with usa.net and I wish them the best.
Well I thought this would be a great device until I saw some reviews on Pricegrabber.com. Looks like there are some serious issued with hard drive durability.
Thanks for the info. I am a long time Sprint customer, but this "no bluetooth" policy is ridiculous. Like a good customer though I sent an e-mail to customer service using an online form. Its pretty easy to do. If you are a customer just login, click on "contact us" link, and then click "email us". If enough people send an e-mail maybe they will reverse their decision. Text of e-mail is below.

---D-A-M-N--L-A-M-E--F-I-L-T-E-R--------------- I was very excited to see PalmOne release their new Treo 650. However, when I found out you guys are crippling the bluetooth option on the phone I was very disappointed. I have a laptop with bluetooth and it would be very nice to be able to sync my treo without using the bulky cradle (especially when travelling). In addition, I have been waiting patiently for a bluetooth phone so I can buy a bluetooth headset.
I'm really hoping you guys will reverse your "no bluetooth" option before my contract ends. If not I may end up going to a bluetooth friendly carrier. Good day.
Yeah, I think that is a good idea. I need to install one of those right by my mirrors pointing out toward your head. I think I'll have them play Fur Elise, or maybe another popular ringtone like "Oops I Did It Again".... LOL
I like Ghost, but haven't used it in a while. Can it write to NTFS yet? If not then I am limited to 4 GB files and that isn't handy anymore. Also, does it support external USB and Firewire drives well? Last time I used it did not. Those are my only questions.

fsck! I was thinking of P = I^2 * R
Yep, its been a while. Thanks for the catch.
