I paid for it. I am not "licensing" the hardware. I'm not "borrowing" it. I am not "leasing" it.
Once it is mine and I have possession of it, I can modify it any way I know how and there is nothing legally they can do about it. It is my property.
So don't update it. There is nothing saying that you have to update your hardware, you just can't access their network if you don't. You will still have a blu ray player...

You do have the right, but by doing so, Apple also has the right to no longer support your personal cell phone...
Not that I think it is right, but it's what happens.
I'm glad to see that you took the time to qualify your statement. Try giving a good reason next time, and don't follow everyone else by saying there are so many viruses, exploits, etc. as it's has been established and everyone knows that it's all cause there are so many more people trying to exploit MS stuff.
Poor muffin... : ( God forbid they dont make a version for every operating system out there. They are a company that is out to make money, so which do you think they will make it for windows duh.
"He contends that while there is no question that a few games have content that some audiences will find offensive, the same can be said for some content in TV, films, music, and books"
I disagree. With TV, Movies, etc. you are watching or listening to the content. With games you are actually interacting with the content and in effect doing the action in the mind of the person. I can see how this could lead to issues in the future.
Don't flame me for this opinion. I've been on the side of the video game companies for quite some time, but the content of many if getting way out of hand. And yes I think the same goes for TV and movies. There really should be more regulation and restrictions on who is allowed to purchase/play them.
Last time I checked PDF wasn't an open standard. It's owned by Adobe, just has a free viewer. So if that's what you are going on here, then you should include MS word as there is a viewer available for this as well.
If they should be given medals, then you should be punched in the side of the head. Would you like it if I came into your house and stole stuff from you, just because you have a window that might not lock just right? That's the same type of thing that they did only with computers.
"we control the hardware, we control the software, and you can't do anything we don't like with it or we'll sue you"
This is perfectly normal. You are purchasing a console gaming machine, not a box that needs linux on it. Enough with having to mod everything and just use your computer like a normal person.
If you want something for emergencies, then get a land line. The internet is not reliable enough to depend on for emergency communications like this.
That is the whole point of VoIP, to replace your landline. Are you going to go and purchase VoIP and have a land line??? I think not. This is the first step in the gov't regulating it, and it is a very good thing for it. In Canada, the gov't is starting the procedures for regulating VoIP and it will include quality control, as well as 911 service.
I know I am going to get rated way down, but I don't get what the point of running linux on every piece of hardware is. It's not like you are going to be able to do everything you can on a desktop as the hardware just is not there. Just get a laptop and deal with it, this is just getting stupid!!!
The reason for canon cartridges being soooo cheap is there is no print head on them. Canon printers have the print head on the carrier inside the printer itself. This is a far better way to go now that printers are quite cheap to make. In previous years if the print head died then you would have to pay to get it fixed, so they started putting them on the cartridges. But its time to go back to having them on the printer!!!
Who cares if it hurts their margins? The gil selling hurts all the players experiences. I've actually noticed a price difference at the AH in the past couple weeks and hopefully things will keep going now that they are being kicked off.
If this was Microsoft all of you here on slashdot would be jumping up and down complaining of anti trust laws and stuff. But I dont really see much of that going on. Maybe some of you should pull your heads out of Apple's ass and see what is going on here. It is blatently an attempt to make it so people with ipods can only purchase from them, now that is anti trust!!!!!!!
Whats the point? Are you really going to run a server from a game boy? If so, what are you going to be able to do with it, nothing!!! Stop modding anything and everything it is useless.

All I have to say is "Bring back the power glove!!!!!!!!!"
You do know that there is more to the computer world then linux. Windows has a perfectly fine place here.
And I bet you feel special for it Mr. Anonymous Coward

Simple answer. More people know how to use windows then linux. User friendly is the key...
Or possibly a virus.... I know that's exactly what I want. My car running with a virus in it possibly controlling where I am going (in the future).

Go Canon!!!

Nicely said!!!! I agree with you completely.
Actually this would mean that it lasts a little bit longer as seconds and minutes are just that little bit closer together now.
How are you supposed to know if you need better employees if you cannot watch to see what they are doing???

Maybe you should realise that on slashdot you can't always relise when sarcasm is being used, especially when MS is involved.
You actually have the balls to say this while you are surfing around on slashdot!?!?!?!?!
Nope, now infinion will have to make their money back that they have just lost, so expect a sharp rise in the price.
