    Actually, to the anonymous grandparent:

    • 50 characters is the limit after which SLASH inserts a space to conserve the site layout and the expansion of the great great grandparent's acronym fitted into 50 characters with out the F word having been expanded.
    • As an aside, I do believe the F word is more offensive within the current cultural climate than is blasphemy.
    • By the way, why did you censor the blasphemous remark but not the F word? -- Nice troll!

    You mean sapience not sentience a machine can "feel" whatever its input devices are telling it. I'm primarily concerned with whether a machine is capable of abstract thought. Apperception may also be an interesting consideration.

    Why don't you just go all out and quote it
    HCF /H-C-F/ n. Mnemonic for `Halt and Catch Fire', any of several undocumented and semi-mythical machine instructions with destructive side-effects, supposedly included for test purposes on several well-known architectures going as far back as the IBM 360. The MC6800 microprocessor was the first for which an HCF opcode became widely known. This instruction caused the processor to toggle a subset of the bus lines as rapidly as it could; in some configurations this could actually cause lines to burn up.

    And what of Helen Keller? Text based Turing test, pick anything from a culturally neutral IQ test that's not too difficult to answer. Ms Keller can use a braille output device.

    Articles change around here all the time. I often notice others pointing out stuff that has changed some time afterwards. I've even done it myself.

    In fact an entire article and comment thread went missing the other day after someone posted an exact duplicate the next day.
