    So they should drop the ordering information from the pieces. If you gave me the parts to make a gun but without assembly instructions, I could make a gun. If you gave me the pieces to make a file and I knew the hash (in analogy to knowing how a gun works), I could work out the order.

    This is hinted at in the HTML5 spec. Vladimir Vukicevic has already created a 3D Firefox Add-on that extends <canvas> with an OpenGL ES context; and others are working on a javascript library that aims to make make Canvas 3D development easier.

    God, I hope that there is an eventual outbreak of common sense but I'm not holding my breath.

    Regarding "common sense" I guess it depends on how literally you define it, but if it's common in the sense of majority held opinion then its adoption can't be pandemic can it? What we're talking about is more like a paradigm shift in moral values.

    Without copyright, every artist would simply resort to live performances, and we'd have a situation where hearing our favorite music was a matter of being in the right place at the right time and paying a hefty cover charge, *every time*.

    Nice logical fallacy there. No, without copyright there would likely still be recordings of works (even if just live performances) which we could listen to whenever we damn pleased.

    Covering the same story is not necessarily plagiarism, copying it verbatim would come directly under copyright but AFAICT that's not the case at issue.

    Anyway:

    The AP has been rather busy with lawsuits lately, so even though the AP has a story about their own lawsuit, we won't link to it.

    It made for a good joke but the AP doesn't seem to be covering this story (I was going to post the link but I can't find one).
