I'd like to be able to port my software to OSX but I don't have a PPC machine to test it on. Anyone else in a similar situation or have an idea to get around this?
Is it me or did the article not really explain how the users can become infected without some sort of user interaction? If not, I think the best way to combat this is user education. I know AOL IM can send out "system" instant messages that could be very useful in telling people to avoid these links.
It glosses over good old fashioned buffer overflows, but not much else. Then again, what else do you need?:)
Agreed. That word itself has become flamebait. Same with "neocon". Its been overused to the point where the mere mention of the word stirs up emotions and riles people up for no good reason.
There is always going to be the same fundamental flaw in software development: humans.
Humans write the original code that produces bugs. Other humans (who may or may not fully understand the code they're working on because the original developer left the company) write patches to fix those bugs and in the process of doing so, create new ones.
Its the nature of the beast, it happens everywhere. Don't get me wrong, Microsofts overall record is pretty weak and I think they have made some serious design flaws with their OS, but to write a whole article on one bugfix smells a little like flamebait to me.
Could it be the GUI? Excel uses native widgets and I'm sure is heavily optimized towards MFC (after all, its their API!). I don't think OO has that luxury. I doubt thats the entire issue but it could partially explain it.
Umm, so they both sent and received mail. Both only replied to some of the mail they got? ME TOO! I wonder what else we have in common. Perhaps they enjoyed watching The Simpsons in their underwear as well.
Thats what it takes to get a story on MSNBC these days?
From what I hear, a lot of depts have trouble implementing these Sharepoint solutions and other things. If you could get actual Microsoft people to run these solutions for you, I think it would save people a lot of headaches.
Isn't this what a lot of other companies like IBM are doing anyway? "Heres your software. What you don't want to run it yourself? Thats fine, we've got this nice shiny datacenter here, we'll take care of it for you!"
Before anyone gets into a tiff about viewing the images on a small iPod screen, I suggest you read the article. The physicians are merely STORING the images on the iPod and then hooking the iPod up to a personal computer (w/nice monitor) to view the images.
I think the influx of high quality sports games attracted a whole new class of people to gaming, the "Adult Gamers." These are the folks that have money to spend but only play games casually with their friends.
Whichever system had the best NBA 2K or Madden game won the pack. The others followed suit.
Slackware is great in a server environment as it is pretty barebones and can easily be customized during the install. On the desktop (well laptop in my case) however, Ubuntu reins king. I've never had a friendlier experience using/running Linus.
As long as they don't forget core CS curriculum like data structures, algorithms and operating systems, I see this as a good thing. Also note that this should be part of a well-rounded education.
Learning ONLY about OSS software is just as bad as learning ONLY about proprietary and/or closed source software. Students need to be educated in all aspects of the field so that they can make good decisions when the time comes and not try to apply one solution to every problem.
- The Onion is a commercial entity. Just because it doesn't cost you anything to view the site, it doesn't mean they aren't making money (hint: ads).
- The Onion is not parodying the POTUS Seal. They are using copying the same Seal and using it in an article (which is now generating them a lot more money because of this stupid debate). The Seal is supposed to denote things OFFICIALLY endorsed by POTUS.
- If they change the Seal to PARODY (not COPY it), no one would care.
- For all of you saying this is a waste of tax-payer money, I ask you this: When should they start caring? How many people can misuse the Seal before they say something? It may be stupid, but they have to do something, its the law (according to them at least).
- This is not a case of 'Bush is teh suck! Halliburton$$!#!#'. The White House has an obligation to make sure that the Seal is only used by things officially endorsed by POTUS.
I don't know what indirect documents are, but will they help submitters write a clear and readable summary? I lost interest trying to comprehend that first paragraph.
So does OSX run on Intel hardware yet?

How is the quality of these things? Would one be able to watch these episodes on a normal television?

And of course what allows all this magic to happen? Why SOA of course!

To sum up, RTFA

Great Simpsons reference. That always makes my day.
What kind of SDK is available for the DS? What language(s) can you use?
On a side note, are there any phones / pdas that have a Python sdk available?
Zing! Take that, Slashdot culture.
Well said. Even funnier that it got modded interesting
Well, I guess as long as Wilma doesn't cross the streams with Alpha, we should be OK.

This whole debate is B.S.

Ehh, maybe. Normally "Big Iron" is associated with IBM but according to Wikipedia, the submitter is correct in using the term.
Sometimes it works. You just have to keep posting! :)
I'll take this opportunity to shameless plug my Online Scrabble game written in Python. Stop by and play a game!
Is it possible to use an AOL IM account with Gaim and talk with people on Jabber? Is there any IM client that can do that? Thanks.
Sorry to not really answer your question, but I have one of my own.
I am a salaried developer right now but I'm interested in doing part time work as well. What resources do people suggest for this kind of endeavor?
Thanks.
