Linux can even handle that wireless connection. Just the manufacturers don't care to let you.

And that's not even true. There are a number of manufacturers that have released driver source code that was then used by community projects to develop good drivers. Atheros for CardBus comes to mind, as does ZyDAS for USB devices. Sure, there are still some manufacturers who CBA, but the fact is, you have a choice. You can buy a product of a manufacturer who cares :)

It's more like we need to gain lots of market share now so that we could put pressure on them more effectively later.

This reminds me of a politician who says he needs more power in order to achieve his goals, and that compromises have to be made to get that power. If you have paid any attention recently or in the past, you know it doesn't work that way. Once 'there', things develop their own dynamics and your goals are gone quicker then you can say 'power corrupts'. I don't know if the analogy carries that far, but I still think it's a very very bad idea.

Besides, who put old walruss face in charge? Learning Klingon? Is he really so deluded to think we're all like him?

  3. Re:Boring?! on Oblivion Polymorph Mod · · Score: 1

Oblivion is a great game. It has cool combat, nice magic effects and the modding ability is decent for a game of this kind. It allows you to go where you want and it doesn't force you into anything and some of the quests are really cool. It's a great game.

That said, it's a lousy TES game and it's a horribly bad RPG. The dialog is lousy, much worse than in Morrowind. There is less text, but to "make up" for that, it's all spoken by the same six or so voice actors. But what hurts the most for any long time, serious TES fan is the apparent total lack of lore. The devs say they asked the old lore gurus to write stories and lore and such, but that they didn't have as much time as would have been required. I don't know about that. But it is a serious problem. The world is lush and green and full of dear, ok. But it doesn't have any depth. It has none of the depth Morrowind had. In addition it is not as alien, not as intriguing as Morrowind. Sure, the same can be said about the two older games in the series, but IMHO this is the first time we experience a serious decline in the series, a step away from rich lore at least. This has always been a saving grace of this series that had to make up for other serious flaws, such as dialog. And don't even get me started about things like the persuasion minigame. What the FUCK were they thinking?

I have a really bad feeling about Fallout 3. Guess I'll have to invest all my hope in Age of Decadence. At least that's made by people who know and love good RPGs.

I think those phenomena are expressions of latent racist ressentiments within certain parts of the population. Just earlier today I read an article that states that a quarter of the population of Holland has a problem with immigrants, and that 10% even label themselves as racists. It was also mentioned that this group consisted mostly of poorly educated young men - incidently also a group that in large parts is interested in soccer.

Does that mean soccer is or promotes racist? I don't think so. Racism is a big problem, pretty much everywhere, and it has to be dealt with. Just don't blame soccer for it. Also, I doubt that "most games" is correct.

    • Someone else mentioned it before, but I'll mention it again because it was a very good tip: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/ ... Many hosters roam those forums and they're making offers there that you don't normally see. That's where I got my server with 10 mbit flat for just over 100 EUR, and there's also a lot of people talking about their experiences with various hosts. It's probably the best friend you'll have on your quest.
    • As far as support is concerned, you have to know what you can do yourself and what you can't. If you can help yourself, you're always better off because you can get a much less expensive server. Support these days is at a premium, especially good one. Also, if you have any choice, don't count on their support. Most companies seem to have completely incompetent tech support stuff these days :( Plus the response times are often dysmal, even if you have to pay extra for it.

Sorry, but that logic is flawed in so many ways I don't know where to start. It's the same kind of reckless irresponsibility that makes newspapers print material they know will cause massive uproars. Anyone who publishes information has a responsibility not to needlessly cause harm.

Printing the name of that guy doesn't help you research his life because what relevant deeds he did, he did as Tron and not as Boris F., and there's no article about a Boris F. you could check out for further reference, so that argument doesn't count either. It serves no actual use to any viewer of that encyclopedia, and it is irresponsible and reckless to publish it without good cause. It's the job of an encyclopedia to publish RELEVANT information, not just any bit they just accidently happen to come by.
