Every time I use the Facebook iPhone app to message, it prompts me to use the iOS Messenger app, and then takes me there. Every. Single. Time.
Messenger via a desktop browser now relegates you to this tiny little box in the lower right corner of my 27" screen that i can barely see. I have to hit options, see full conversation to get a reasonable messaging view.
I would have assumed with the WhatsApp purchase messaging strategy would be a priority...but my experiences combined with the above article makes me seriously wonder what it is...
Evidently this man videotaped his encounter with the hotel staff and then tried to extort the hotel for $500 for the copy of the video. He then stood outside the hotel driving customers away.
While he may have been within his rights to do these things (is this type of extortion legal in Quebec?) I do find it odd that these facts aren't being reported anywhere.
I was at the reading yesterday as part of my sojourns around Performa 09.
No one else recognized her (that I could tell) in the audience, but it was a durational piece and I was only there a half hour.
I was almost positive it was her, but she had these huge sunglasses on and I couldn't be sure...and it didn't seem like a good question to just ask a random chick at a performance piece while I was there with my gf...
My Dad worked for Control Data Corporation while I was growing up. CDC was one of the BIG computer companies in the 60s and 70s. They made the world's fastest supercomputer for years and if you ever saw the old Six Million Dollar Man, the mainframes in the background of the opening sequence are CDC boxes.
In 73 or 74 he brought home a PLATO IV terminal and an acoustic coupling modem. My young self started playing Empire as soon as I found the games. Empire was a networked Trek like game and I was playing multiplayer over phone lines with a dozen or so people when most folks didn't yet own a calculator.
Well the blog and the headline are all screwy...this is a trial, and they are not thinking about replacing their motorcycle fleet, but their gas scooter fleet. They have a ton of those things. original source (new window)
There are two mods projects that update the textures for SS2. SHTUP does object textures and SS2 Rebirth the AI models. Worth taking a look if you are interested in a replay.
Although I cannot recommend that anyone purchase this game as it sucks, a lot, you can buy it through digital distribution. I purchased it off of Fileplanet's Direct2Drive service.
Beyond the lack of a cohesive story and busted control schema, the AI of your fleet companions, the manual and the tutorial are all so incredibly bad that I uninstalled the game after about an hour.
"If you're going to build a spaceship, you've got to build a green spaceship," Branson said, adding that the carbon dioxide output from a single spaceflight is on par with those of a business class seat aboard commercial aircraft.
I completely agree with AMC above. I've seen this issue a few times before (when I worked in employment law) and after I got into IT. The eventual (and I believe correct) solution was to hire a professional to evaluate the situation and recommend appropriate purchases.
Your attempts to make it better may have the unintentional impact of making them worse.
Have the employee see a Dr., tell HR to hire an occupational safety therapist and make it clear that you'll purchase whatever gear they recommend. If the OP is in the US, with our litigious society, any other course of action is foolhardy.
I wore a tie into the office one day. The next day my boss took me aside and asked if I was happy with my current level of compensation. I wound up with a raise that very week.
So I think I've finally puzzled this all out.
1) Wear tie
2) ?????? = boss thinks you are interviewing (I had a formal dinner that evening...)
3) Profit!
Honestly though, the only tech interviews I've worn a tie to were usually very conservative places like large law firms. I wore a sportcoat sans tie to my interview for a position at Miramax Films IT and almost didn't get the job because the boss thought I was too formal. I can't imagine taking a position where I had to wear a tie all day...I'd have ruined dozens by now.
It seems that every reviewer with this angle says the same thing...you can't get a good HDTV for under $1000. That's all well and good, but as you've pointed out, untrue. Not only that but every reviewer seems to confuse HDTV and LCD/Plasma.
I have a beautiful Sony Wega 32" HDTV (up to 1080i) with a TUBE. Yes, the antiquated and unloved tube...but let me tell ya, that thing has an amazing picture, will outlast (probably) any LCD or Plasma and even with the giant footprint (weight alone was 165lbs) it still fit into my budget ($800) and my apartment.
HDTV is the next big thing, people will switch once the content is there.
The author's comments on the 2600 and ET are also off base...ET failed because it was buggy and it just plain sucked!
Honestly I wish I had seen your post BEFORE I sent it off to a few of the girl gamers in my company. I had to issue a hearty apology quickly thereafter.
Anyway, the feedback I got was that posers are posers. Girls who play games don't flaunt it for publicity...but attention whores will always be attention whores.
Seemed more like male egos were at question here than any legitimate discussion of girls and games.
I'm totally with ya on the martini thing...have you tried Hendricks?
But I have to differ with the conclusion of your post. I agree, it's a language we must all learn, but in reality I've seen these buzzword guys come and go. They tend to go when something goes wrong and they have no clue what they had others do in the first place to implement it.
I survived the dot com boom with a simliar view on reality.
Talk to your listeners. If everyone is spouting babble at the numbers guy, you should turn to him and tell him in plain English your learned interpretation of the comments. Don't just babble it back around the table. Be the guy who knows the snake oil, can explain it in the mother tongue and don't be afraid to go against the tide.
and drinking a lot helps.
I think you need to buy from Dell business and not home. My Dell laptops come preloaded with no crap software...but I work for a huge company.
Anyway...I agree with your point but differ a bit.
These users aren't buying software or even high end hardware. When I spend (and I never would) my $10k with Alienware I'm buying SUPPORT.
Does Dell offer better phone support on these models than the regular crap, because if not they aren't worth a dollar. Not saying Dell support is terrible, but for the money I'm spending I expect to be treated VERY well.
Ever called Alienware for support? I have...I felt like it was the old days again...when someone called me back and said he was (i forget the correct title) something like an engineer and wanted to know if i would try a new version of the bios they were testing and see if it would fix my problem. No one mentioned reinstalling Windows...no 12 step/levels of tech support. Smart folks on the phone, smart folks calling back.
I'm not familiar with all the provisions of HIPAA but I'm unaware of any SOx or any other regulation that says email transmitted outside our intranet need be encrypted.
Is /. doing the same thing?
You are correct and that's my bad. No idea how to get it corrected though.
Thank God that Google has never given anyone anything at below cost and has in no way benefited this country, Senator. /portwineboy@gmail.com

We call that the "trunk."

They lost that deal as soon as they made it. It's effectively dead.
That's exactly right. There is as much chance of the Air Force buying an "Airbus Air Force One" as I do of getting a chance to fly it.

taking out another million or two Aku'Ultan.
I'm actually not sure if you are trolling or not...but in case you aren't... For gaming you want to stick with Win XP.

However they do it, whatever it takes. Drug companies weren't formed for altruistic reasons.

I know, I got that. I even agree with it (and your point on guilds)...I was just amused with your chart. :)
