i wasnt ableto get it by the automatic software update on my mac
Are you running the latest Java updates for 10.3? IIRC, it'll only show up if you've installed the Java 1.4.2 update from last year, and it won't come up on 10.2 or lower at all.
I heard it will be a joint announcement between Apple and Google about a Google OS that has a Google Browser that runs exclusively on the new PowerBook G5s. THIS WILL BE AWESOME!!!
(I want to go back in time to before "market" was a verb.)
"Ogg, we've really got to do something to build brand awareness of this whole 'cooking meat instead of just eating it raw' idea. Any ideas?"
"Well, Jim, maybe we could offer it at a discount to certain people in the food services industry; you know, try to build a groundswell of support for it among them, and let them tell others how great it is. Plus we'll have a big ad campaign that kicks off during next year's Super Mammoth Hunt."
"Brilliant! Ogg, you've got a great future here at Grunt, Grunt, OMGADINOSAURISEATIMGMEHELPAIEEE and Fleckstein."
Absolutely no child, healthy or sick, should be deprived of the sheer joy that is Play-Doh. It's colorful, malleable, non-toxic, and even smells funny. Best of all, it comes with no instructions, flashing lights, or piezoelectronic voices - you have to make all those things up as you go along.
Thank god, I thought I was going to have to fight off the GMail zombie geek army they're secretly developing all by myself. Stay safe! When the time comes I will call for you!
No reputable breeder sets out to make a profit on their cats, nor are they trying to breed "disease" out - they're bred for specific physical or emotional characteristics, and judged as such.
People who breed cats for profit are looked down upon as the scum of the universe by any real cat breeder. Every single one I know puts the health and well-being of their cats above any financial concern. There are people who spend close to $5,000 per year on their catterys, just for vet visits and sheltering.
Please, do a little research on the subject before you paint all cat breeders with the same evil brush. (No, I'm not one, but my wife is, and I assure you she's not in it for the money.)
I stopped using CCC a while back due to the flakiness that it started to exhibit.
I actually am working on a quick-and-dirty asr/ditto-based tool for backing up a couple of our work machines, for essentially the same reason. I'm hoping I can get it to the point where I can get machines to automatically back themselves up to a sparse image on a server during off-peak hours.
I did use the handy instructions from asr's man page to set up an out-of-the-box fresh install of 10.3.4 with all the security updates for a machine so I can sell it. Very handy, although not quite the same as sysprepping a Windows machine.
Carbon Copy Cloner? Had issues with it when backing up an iBook via Firewire, so I don't trust it.
I've seen the same thing with CCC and FireWire drives, where eventually the process times out and you have to force-quit CCC and start over. I have found that there is a workaround of sorts that generally prevents this from happening:
start the clone operation as normal
open the Terminal
cd to the root directory of the target drive for the cloning operation (i.e.
/Volumes/whatever
)
do an ls -l of the directory every 4-5 minutes or so
This usually works on my drives. My theory is that something in either CCC or Apple's FireWire implementation is screwy and it causes ditto (the unix tool that forms the basis of CCC) to flip out.
Four years after the infamous.plan update, and two years since the public. I just hope this is a real release date, and not a Valve-ish "well, you know, even though we said this year, we really meant next year, sorry" one.
And where's the Mac client? (Not that I own one fast enough to run it, I'm sure.)

There shouldn't be any coming from domains other than washingtonpost.com or www.washingtonpost.com, but then again, we have been having minor issues with the registration system recently. What browser are you using? Maybe I can file a bug report with the web devs.
And Firewire doesn't exactly provide infinite power over the bus. I have a 2.5" harddrive in a Firewire/USB enclosure, and it needs an AC adapter to run off the Firewire port while the USB port gives it enough power.
Sounds like you bought a shitty enclosure; I have several and all of them are powered off the FireWire connector. You didn't get one of those godawful ones with a 4-pin FireWire port instead of the standard 6-pin, did you?
I have to say, I've been reading slashdot for over four years now and I think this is the single geekiest (and funniest) pun I have ever seen here. I tip my hat to you, sir.
One of the comments for "The Two Towers" complains about Eomer somehow having escaped his "...under pain of death" sentence by Grima. I always interpreted this as Eomer merely being banished, and threatened with death should he return. Big difference there.
I don't know for sure, but I'd be willing to bet Apple has more lawyers than SCO has employees. There is no possible way Steve -- er, I mean, Apple -- will allow them to win their case.
I won't let my kids watch movies, and I certainly don't watch them either. TV's one thing (Discovery channel, etc.) but I'd rather they read information and learn via the Internet or books than stare at some drug-using immoral Hollywood "stars" as they stumble through their lines on screen while we pay $9 for a ticket and $5 for a Coke and $6 for popcorn.
Spend time outside or something. There's so much more to life, and the Universe, than movies. I blame Slashdot, I blame ThinkGeek, and I blame everyone and anyone who's ever dramatized actors or rockstars or athletes. What ever happened to using one's brain? Society is heading down the tubes. Where are family values? Where are the American jobs?
Given the size and interests of/.'s readership, I understand why studios and production companies want to start phoney "grassroots" buzz about their films here, but do the editors really have to accept the story submissions?
Although I agree that this is sort of tenuous as far as/. news goes, my guess is that if the story really was submitted by an undercover marketer, they would have at least waited for the website to be online. At least, I'd wait until then.
Unfortunately, I don't think they could have picked a more geek-unfriendly acronym. Unless it were named something like Radio Interphase Advanced Algorithm, or something...

I can even prove it! http://switch.atdmt.com/action/apple_google_browse r_g5_powerbook
(And no, not the one from Time Bandits, nyuk-nyuk-nyuk)

What the hell was that thing you kicked at the end, was it a can? It looked more like a duck.
All I know is I saw a lot of it after 4 or 5 rounds >:(
Is that the perfect toy or what?

Sweet, another Rush fan!
I look forward to every new issue just to see what they'll do next.

I don't know what it means, but I approve.
Don't forget the mumbled "What the hell...?" under his breath, too...

And with the distributed build system built-in, think of how much compile time you'll save!

Uh-huh. I bet you don't own a television, either, do you?

Aren't they all these days?
