  16. Not the case for CS:Source on World of Warcraft Launches · · Score: -1, Offtopic

I just wish valve would have had a six-month-plus beta testing period for Counter Strike:Source. That game is IMO stll barely beta software IMO. It doesn't seem like Valve even put much into the game. Half Life 2, from what I've read (I don't like Half Life. I'm a major Counter Strike aficianado though) half life 2 is totally revamped with different weapons, and cool stuff like the ability to pick up random objects and hurl them at bad guys.

Honestly CS as a game does not need much fundamental changes. The weapons are already great and they don't need to introduce more. They did add sound-impairment effects to the flash grenade. But the nature of CS just makes me wish they made it even more realistic. I don't think my suggestions would honestly make it "too" realistic and no longer fun as a game:

    1. They should add sound-impairment effects (ringing "ears") to the HE grenade based on the proximity of explosion, as they did to the flash grenade. If an explosive goes off within 30 yards of you, it might not kill or maim, but I'm almost certain it would have a somewhat brief effect on your hearing, possibly sight if you looked into the explosion.

    2. If an HE grenade goes off near you in a way which isn't fatal, it should knock your aim off. Like just randomly through your crosshair in a certain direction based on how close you are to the grenade and what directino the explosion was from. You would have to be awfully close for this effect to take place, but I think it's something to think about. Even if the explosion didn't do this in real life, no soldier is able to have an explosion next to them and still maintain the same accuracy on a target. I guess this really might be an overkill improvement though. I mean when you play CS and see/hear an incoming HE, you do haul ass which is realistic. Except noobs stand there. But yeah its just my thoughts on a possible new feature to the game.

    3. I don't know if any games already do this, but I think besides damage factors, different things should happen based on the round/location of the injury in CS. For example if you get shot in the arm 1 or 2 times, perhaps your character would be forced to drop his weapon and use pistol/nades only. They could actually make the view using the players alternative hand. I don't think anyone shot in the arm could effectively use an AWP with the same accuracy, or even and mp5 for that matter. Also if you are shot in the legs, I think your speed should be effected. I don't think they need to make it so realistic that you might actually fall down, but honestly they should add this feature. Perhaps they could make the player models animate with a "limp" of some sorts.

    4. Headshots should be instant kills regardless of the weapon, except with kevlar. With kevlar hs should be incredibly weaker. If a bullet can't go through kevlar, it can't go through kevlar, and a whole USP clip in the dome isn't going to increasing the punctuating effects of the round/weapon. I think a small amount of damage should be taken from kevlared-hs's, but basically a less chance of instant hs kills. I think rifles are a different story, since most rifles don't even notice kevlar.

    5. The smoke is not really realistic enough. Valve needs to see footage of real smoke grenades and look at how they spread based on wind factors. Also smoke should be noticibly thicker etc.. based on indoor factors.

    6. I am so glad source removes sheild. Their is nothing realistic about an unpenatrable sheild that looks like its solid iron weighing 300 pounds, yet a man can fire a weapon while weilding it running at full speed. The sheild was a good concept, but after playing with it I think a lot of CS'ers realized that it really had no strategic value in the game. CS is mostly about teamwork and player positioning/team waypoints than it is about strategic use of equiptment, opposed to games like rainbow six, where when you need a sniper you REALLY need a sniper, and can't wing it with an AK or something. And yes, AWP IS a great sniper that doe

  20. Avoidance on Games X Copy Stirs Backup Controversy · · Score: -1, Troll

Game distributors should be committed to re-placing damaged or broken medium to nullify the "back-up" arguement. All too often we see developers make the claim that you don't own the game, your just purchasing the rights to use it, but when the disc breaks or some such they will simply not care about it. Really they owe you a new disc/cart within a certain reasonable framework, such as a two-year period, because you haven't just purchased the disc, you purchased the rights to use the game. Game X would still prove useful for hobbiest who collect games, but I honestly doubt that Game X can back up those old atari and nintendo carts we all have lying around.

Personally I believe that you do not have unlimited rights to do as you wish with purchased copyrighted material. You may not see the current system as wrong, but that doesn't give you the right to obfusicate the copyrights of others by distributing copies unofficially. If you claim that freedom matters than don't obstruct someone elses freedoms to do as they please with their creations by trying to nullify their rights to distrobution.

I think Game X is wrong. They are clearly violating the DMCA. It's going to be ill percieved here, but I will say that Free Software advocates, hackers, and the like have proven themselves to be simply criminals by supporting things like DeCSS. If you can't play DVD on linux than don't break the law. Lobby to companies to legitimately get that feature or try to get governmental intervention.

It will deservedly be modded down; this does not matter to me as I browse at -1 threshold anyway, because I value freedom more than political correctness and "brevity" in my perusing of posts. If I wanted selective news for the sake of brevity and "saving time" I would just read one of the many newspapers available which would be the mainstream equivalent of written news such as I receive on the internet. However we all know these situations lead to special interest takeovers, or rather expose the inherint exploitablity of moderation systems and centralized control such as in the newspaper. Anyway, moderation works wonderfully, just like violence, in getting sympathy for your cause. It was Hitler, I believe, who said, "If we won't let our enemy have guns, why let him have ideas?"

It's possible that I'm responding to a troll who is falesly representing the views he presents in order to create a negative atmosphere, but I could also be responding to a sincere advocate of the beliefs I hold. Either way, here is my response.

I personally do believe the White Race is under both a direct and indirect assault by enemies of our people. Moreso I believe that 90% of our people - that is white european heterosexual people - are under a spell. These people basically have no opinions. They simply follow the idea's that are presented to them on television. I call these people lemmings. The use of the term lemming in my post is not -as it would seem - the foundation for a "me vs the masses" sort of ideology. It is simply an honest reflection of the realities of our society. It is a reflection of how people behave, and how they act. It is also a reflection of the resulting structure of our society, and how people interact and deal with one another. It is simply a known truth that there is a CompUSA, Best Buy, WalMart, and other common stores in virtually every American town. It is universally understood - especially in a place like Slashdot - that the communication tools (such as television) that individuals consume at these would-be cultural centers are the clients of the most centralized, controlled, and cesored propaganda machine ever known to the human race. Therefore it is perfectly acceptable for me to generalize and use the term lemming in my post, as lemmings from anytown USA live the same, read and watch the same news programs, and have been socialized into a certain way of behavior and personality.

I feel a certain connection to the Anonymous person that posted. I don't know if he or she is a heterosexual white person, but I bet they are. I don't believe as the poster does that most Whites are concious of the real threat to themselves. Most Whites have been in tense racial situations, where they may have been outnumbered by homogenous groups of non-whites and been threatened either morally or physically; where a white heterosexual female has been encouraged by her peers to have intercourse with a non-white by her lemming peers (I know she felt of certain degree of repulsion and disgust in her giving-in to the peer pressure of her spellbound lemming associates); situations where a White person has lost a job, a college admittance, or other sought position to a less qualified non-white at the expense of policies such as affirmative action; I know that there are many Whites who are perplexed at the existance of "107 historically black colleges, whose fundamental blackness must be preserved in the name of diversity, but all historically White colleges must be forcibly integrated in the name of... the same thing. To resist would be racist."(stormfront.org)

I know that many Whites aren't racially aware, like the non-white races are, but they do observe the events I described and similar events on a daily basis. They fail to draw any correlations. They refuse to adopt "racist" doctri
