The article also says that the police took control of the Netherlands botnet "several weeks ago."
While it doesn't say that the police continued to send out spam until this past Sunday (which is when the original poster reported his spam volume dropped), can we at least assume that this botnet that came under police control several weeks ago and was sending out Dutch spam, was probably not the source of the drop in spam that this original article is asking about?
Did you read the article? "...as the messages and phishing hooks were all sent in Dutch,..."
Since the original poster didn't mention what portion of his spam was arriving written in DUTCH, we can't say for sure, but it appears, as the article says (up near the top too!), this botnet, while large, was almost completely confined to the Netherlands.
I'll save you the reply too, should you go back and read the article, the rest of the sentence I quoted above says "...but had apparently infected some US systems as well, as the FBI is credited for assisting on the case." However it does say that ALL the messages were sent in Dutch.
According to Google Maps, this bar is on Piedmont Avenue. It's been 12 years since I spent any time in Atlanta, but from what I remember of that area, it was a bit run down but not especially dangerous.
Q. Under which Operating Systems can I use the kX driver?
A. The kX driver conforms to the WDM (Windows Driver Model) specification and is therefore compatible with the following Microsoft Windows operating systems: Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows 98 (Second Edition only), and Windows Me. Windows.NET Server 2003 may also be supported, however, this has not been tested. Windows 98 (First Edition) will not be supported since it has no built-in support for WDM drivers (v1.1 or later).
Perhaps their FAQ hasn't been updated, but from what I can see this only confirms that there are no Vista drivers for the Creative Labs cards that are being discussed.:(
Agreed. Especially if the headline contains the pointless "completely." I'd expect something "completely transparent" to be, well, invisible.
I suppose it will also "literally make you explode with excitement when you see it in action."
Ahhh, I remember when words meant things, and you could read some text and know what the text was describing. Now words just fill space, but I guess that's what an advertising-driven news site is about.
TFA article clearly says that they're issuing several updates right on schedule this coming Tuesday.
They are delaying a security update that was previoiusly scheduled for Tuesday. They're delaying it because they found some problems during late testing. Good on 'em for that.
Aside from that, the rest of the updates will be issued as scheduled.
Agreed - my rule of thumb is "80% of the information on the Internet is incorrect, and 20% is spelled wrong with bad grammar; this applies to this rule as well."
You see, there are these things called "Internal Networks," and some of these "Internal Networks" have "computers" on them that can be prevented from connecting to the "External Network."
But seriously, you might for example, use a Linux box to retrieve the update, then post it to an internal location, say a shared network drive, and have all the little XP machines get it from there.
I guess the point is that it doesn't have to be used by the machine that first downloads it.
The article on informIT.com is 3 months shy of being 2 years old.
SP4 solved any lingering questions about HIPAA and auto-update, but auto-update was always an option, and the act of disabling it made the system HIPAA compliant anyway.
Ongoing questions about what "due diligence" means have yet to be decided. We're still waiting for the first lawsuits based solely on a medical office selecting Windows in the first place.

Here's a list of Mirrors from the Knoppix site. Not all of the mirrors are updated yet, but I found a copy, and a speedy connection, at the Quicknet.nl mirror (not that it'll last long after I mention it, but it's a place to start).

I propose a warning message that should be displayed prominently in all public locations, and perhaps run as a PSA on television several times a day:
WARNING: There are things in the world that can hurt you. Be careful.
I'm not a dad, but I've been happily married for 23 years, while in the IT industry for 20.
I personally feel the fact I'm NOT a dad contributed to the happy marriage, but that's just me. YMMV.
I don't work for these guys, but we've bought stuff from them before and they've been reasonable.

Nowhere near those Suns in capacity or performance, but they are less expensive.
The main reason I can think of for spelling "wood" and "would" differently is that they're different words that mean different things.
The fact that they sound the same when spoken doesn't mean they're interchangeable when written, or that they should be.
Those are MAGIC fires.

I think he meant it would take until 2011 before they had completed fixes for 100% of the currently known security problems.
So what's he's saying is technically possible.
That's a joke folks; start laughing.

It's the Japanese version of the game, however, so while it looks great, it's hard to tell what you're supposed to do.
And unless you speak Japanese, you can't tell WHAT advice the old turtle is offering.

We'll be using the Progeny Transition Service for a while, on RH9.
But we've already started moving to SUSE Linux, and we'll accelerate that when SUSE 9.1 is released.
A programmable steering mechanism allows it go straight, or turn at pre-set angles. But only to the right.
To the right? That's of no use! Reprogram that sucker to turn left and send it to NASCAR.
