Hmm, let me guess, they will paint a huge American Flag on it? Then people will love it! "Yay, freedom mommy!" Oh well, this won't be much different than the mini-vans I see in the suburbs (when I have to go out there to visit my parents, I would never live in the 'burbs, you insensitive clod). All flag waving - no brain. I'd feel better if it was portrayed as strictly for military use (but not much better). But luckily it's already being modeled for use in the USA. For our safety - hurrah!

Hmm, why not just surf over to Salon to read this article? Salon.com is the only site I've ever paid for content. And I've found it totally worth it - the writing is top notch, and you're not going to find that in one of 100 +5 mods here. Overall their stories and reviews are great, their books coverage (my favorite part) is outstanding and news coverage is up to date about issues that people actually care about. Any news outlet that wants to chage for a premium service appealing to intelligent people would be wise to look at Salon's model. My 2 cents.
IANAL but if Cingular bought AT&T Wireless and your agreement is with AT&T Wireless then you are now in a contract with Cingular. Similar to if you rent a room in a house and someone sells the house, your contract is with the new owner - they are bound to the terms as you are, so don't worry about prices instantly going up or anything like that.
Can't you just hook up one of my legs to a life support system and send it there?
Oh sure, and play right into the Martians hands!? Lazy Martians, can't even come to Earth and collect body parts, now we've got people volunteering to send them up to Mars for them! Sheesh!
we are looking for a person ready to give up their whole life, move to an almost 100% barren place where he/she will soon die utterly alone!
I don't know - a former co-worker, an engineer, moved to Texas for a job in the middle of nowhere, where all he does is work all the time and has no social life to speak of. Sounds like a candidate!
"unless you're going to walk around with $2,000 of gear stuffed into the pockets"
If you live in a city you might as well just get a sign that says "Rob Me!" It's akin to the people I see fiddling with their iPods on the subway at 10PM. Easy targets.
Yeah, I live in Chicago and it's my professional opinion that we don't need to make things easier for fat and lazy people. But, hey, what do I know, I don't even eat at McDonald's!
So what will you when every toll road you travel on by car passes your travel details automatically to law enforcement based on your license plate? Or when one day every intersection has a camera collecting this kind of information? Or when there's a camera doing face recognition on every street corner, evaluating whether you are a terrorist or not? Will you just stay at home all day? I think a more proactive stance is needed here. Just boycotting the airline industry is not going to do much at all.
I think this would make for a good commercial. In the background you could run the theme music for "Cheers"... "Sometimes you wanna go, where everybody knows your name..."
Impressingly, there seem to be no existing terrorists flying business class, because there are extremely relaxed checks, if at all.
How do you think terrorists get all their money? Financing from Saudi Arabia? No! Penny pinching by flying coach and savvy investing of those saved thousands, that's how! Why, even the TSA apparently knows that!
In fact, I'm boycotting the RIAA and only buying from indie labels or direct from the artists. (I just bought the new Hot Hot Heat album... 8/10 stars for reminding me of the Clash)
Are you aware of the relationship between Warner brothers records and Sub Pop?
If not, check it out! Search for "Hot Hot Heat".
My point is not that you're wrong for supporting Hot Hot Heat, just that any band that is totally hot right now is going to be eaten up by the majors, whether it be a contract from Warner Brothers or a contract from their side project "indie" label... which they all have. You have to go really local to avoid it, and if the band you like is any good and wants to live, they are going to sign with one of these labels, with very few exceptions.
Do you think you might be capable of reading this because of NCSA Mosaic? From the "About" field of IE(I know - I'm at work) Based on NCSA Mosaic(TM); was developed at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Had to give a shout out to my Alma Mater!
Vin Diesel would have to get his acting up to "caveman" though & stop dragging his knuckles on the ground. Now "apeman" - that has possibilities for our man Vin!
I was at a wedding a few weeks ago at Martha's Vinyard. At the reception guess who was fucking trashed? I'll give you a hint - the Bush girls! Oh, and the hundreds of secret service there looked *real* worried about it. Gimme a fuckin' break dude, take your moral defense of the Bush's upstanding behavoir and stick it. They behave just like all the other rich asshole silver spoons.
remember claims apart from Simon's (can't find the source, sorry) dating back fifty years ago that computers would have human-level intelligence by 2000.
I remember claims from some sort of future-predicting "movie" called "2001: A Space Odyssey" - hmmm but that was only 35 years ago. Still it's not far off from Herbert Simon's predeictions & I also think that movie does a good job of summing up peoples innate fear of robots "taking over". That reminds me - that episode of the Simpsons was on the other day & it's a classic!
An important question that I didn't see adressed in the article is what about products that are out now? Is the standard significantly different than, for example, apple's airport extreme?
Being involved in the communications industry I know standards basically come down to which company wins the "no let's do it my way" fight (e.g. the cat 6 cable standard). Who was the winner in this case?

Wires... when can I have wireless everything? Yes, that's right, I would like wireless electricity too!

It's easy to solve disputes that could come up in space... we'll just send Judge Dredd along!

I know the article said this robot had no mobility, but just imagine if it bred with this robot and escaped!

fat people
bad service/delays
poorly regulated hvac control
don't like hanging out in airports
don't like taking off shoes (just don't like it!)
Reasons I do fly:
Boat ride over Atlantic seems longer than it used to be
Don't feel like driving through rural states where ... well. you know. (cue obligatory Deliverance quote/ dueling banjos reference)

You mean like the great system they have in Israel? Doesn't seem to have caused any problems there...
Their server has been freed of the burden of loading pages. If only all pages functioned so, it should make your desktop truly free!
Now, come on. That would not be nearly as fun to rant and yell about.

Back in the USSR... Back in the USSR... Back in the USSR...
Hopefully the "breaks" you speak of aren't taken while braking... otherwise you'll really need this system!
