Simple question, who would have been getting the oil and selling it if everything worked out? BP, so they should bare ultimate responsibility because they were going to be the ones who profited.

They needed a new school, and it had to deal with a number of special issues. For example,

    • global raw material shortages caused costs to skyrocket to an average of $600 per square foot in 2006 and 2007 -- triple the price from 2002
    • Methane mitigation cost $33 million
    • $15 million preserving historic features

It is not like this an investment property that they could keep putting off. So the costs of the materials, who knew how high it was going to go? It is not like they could have predicted it was going to go way back down. Also this is Los Angeles,

Construction costs at LA Unified are the second-highest in the nation -- something the district blames on skyrocketing material and land prices, rigorous seismic codes and unionized labor

It is not like they could build it anywhere they want. At the very least, it was an investment in our youth which is better than the proposed "Bridge to Nowhere" (price tag of $398 million).

On the other hand, we have $75,000 thrown away on non-work related stuff. This is not like taking a sticky pad home with you or using the business copier for your own use. If this was any other employee in the company not only would they be frog marched out the door, they would have called the cops and had them arrested for stealing company property. But this is the CEO who was just paid $40 million for walking away why would we hold him to the same standards as other employees.

Unless the airplane is flying in a straight line, it can miss just like anything else. Guided missiles are effective in that it gets close enough to the target to limit the targets options for evasion. Unless you have some super computer that perfectly track a moving target the whole this is total BS.

    Unlimited ammunition

A laser would require energy, how much energy, I don't know how much but I doubt it is a pair of double AA are powering the thing so lets not pretend it has unlimited ammunition.

You also ignore the obvious, projectile weapons are going to be easier to maintain. A laser? Who the hell knows? This is not Star Wars it is just fantasy crap.

Unemployment benefits, Social Security, vacation, Health Care, training are all gone. Not to mention if they are going to do all this stuff, they might as well cheat on their accounting as well.

The fact is, these employers are don't want to hire human beings, they want robots. If they get sick or broken they can throw them away.
